Prayersandblessings,
DeniseBarrington EditorHundreds gathered to celebrate the life of Rev. Sunia Saulala who passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on 26 August. Speaking at the celebration of his life the National Superintendent Rev. Brett Jones spoke of the legacy Sunia leaves behind.
A legacy of a man who accepted God’s call to the ministry. Of a man whose love of the Word of God became a passion in Him that he longed to share with others. Of a Minister who led and encouraged others to find their own passion to share the love of God with others. Of a Minister who found his voice on unity and who took the lead in working with other churches.
Perhaps the thing that stands out the most though, is Sunia’s love of the young people under his care. Shiloh youth are leading the way in our youth movement. Leading the way for WYCAMP. Such leadership doesn’t happen by accident. It happens when the pastor empowers and disciples and gives permission for youth leaders to flourish in their gifts.
Please continue to pray for Sunia’s wife Lupe, daughter Siahi, and the people of Shiloh Wesleyan Church as they grieve and learn to live life without their much loved husband, father, and pastor in it.
Well done good and faithful servant.

Michelle Yates and Amanda Mitchell recently teamed up again with Isaac Garnean (Wesleyan Medicine) for their seventh medical mission to Bougainville in Papua New Guinea. They had planned to volunteer in 6 rural medical clinics in the north of Bougainville but when Mt Bagana erupted it blew up their itinerary when they were invited to helped out with the displaced people too After meeting with the NZ Police, ABG Disaster Team, ABG Health Department and Buka Hospital they headed out to provide medical aid in a field clinic in Wakunai.
WesMed see ' s the relationships outside the church in Bougainville as a wonderful opportunity to represent Jesus. An essential part of our WesMed ministry to encourage and support the local church in Bougainville. It was a great joy to minister to the congregation of Living Waters Wesleyan in Buka Town, preaching God's word from Matthew 5, and providing vitamins and much needed spectacles. One family needed significant medical input, which the team was able to facilitate. We also visited the Tanamalo Bible College and delivered koha for the students, had a meeting with the NBA and College Faculty and gave financial support to the leadership, to enable more effective communication.

Rev Samuel Tupuru wrote, “The Armstong’s went out to Petats where Eden had time with the Sunday school kids on Saturday morning and the women on Sunday afternoon, while Grant spoke to the youth on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon as well. Praise
God for all the happenings. To God be the glory!”
Disaster response starts before there is a disaster. How ready are we to respond to a disaster in our own community?
Auckland Church Network organised a training evening for church leaders to hear how we can be more disaster ready to support people in our churches. Given the increase in events requiring a disaster response perhaps it’s time to consider how we make sure that we are prepared to be the first responders in our church community.
Practical steps we can take differ depending on your context. Take a look at the training evening video for some ideas of how to be prepared. Below there are some other resources that you might find useful in checking your preparedness to respond to disasters.

Do you have a passion for seeing that our (WMCANZ) churches are safe places for work, worship, and study that are free from harassment, bullying and violence? If so, perhaps you could be our next National Safe Church (HBV) Officer and/or the Safe Church (HBV) Implementation Manager.
As the National Safe Church (HBV) Officer you will oversee the ongoing operation of the Safe Church Policy with a key emphasis on raising awareness and overseeing the complaints process. This is an ongoing unpaid role.
As the Safe Church (HBV) Implementation Manager you will lead the ‘Safe Church (HBV) Policy Implementation’ project which aims to ensure that the policy is effectively implemented across the denomination. This is a short term paid contract.
If this piques your interest, contact the Director of Operations (Rev Peter Benzie) – dirops@wesleyan.nz or ph. 027 243 9363 to talk further and for the job description.
Applications for both roles close on 13 October 2023.
We are on the lookout for an energetic, experienced, and peoplefocused Head Teacher/Centre Manager to lead our capable teaching team in delivering quality early childhood education.
Little Sunbeams is a Christian early childhood centre, licensed for 30 children between the ages of 2 and 5. For the past fifteen years, we have been serving our local community, providing quality Christian early education so tamariki can come to understand God’s love for them.
This exciting opportunity would suit someone who is a keen problem solver with excellent communication and selfmanagement skills to guide the centre into the future while maintaining a caring nature towards tamariki, parents and whānau.
If this role sounds like you, find out more here. You can also visit our centre and meet the staff.
