INTERNATIONAL JAZZ DAY AZ. 2021 Arizona Tour de Jazz Festival LLC

Glendale Jazz & Blues Presentation This Glendale festival, which started in the 1980’s ran for 29 years before being eliminated in 2012 due to budget constraints. That same year Jazz Master Herbie Hancock was able to convince the United Nation to create International Jazz Day(April 30) to bring attention to the decline of this American Art form in the Unite States, but growing all over the world. In 2015 under the guiding of Herbie Hancock DR. William Doc Jones created International Jazz Day AZ Foundation to unite the State of Arizona around this Jazz Day Movement. Governor Ducey, 8 Mayors and the full House and Senate have endorsed Int’l Jazz Day. In 2019 they passed a Bill HCR 2017 declaring April Jazz Appreciation Month and April 30th International Jazz Day.

Council member Jamie Aldama for a few years has been trying to revise interest in bringing the Jazz festival back. In the final year of the festival it cost the city $158,000. Due to budget cuts over the years there’s no way the councilman could get approval from his councilmembers, but that has not deterred the councilman. Councilman Aldama has started a conversation with Southwest Vice President at Inter Technologies Mr. Abner Sarazue to find sponsorships funds to help off set some of the cost to bring the Glendale Festival back.

INTERNATAIONAL JAZZ DAY AZ FOUNDATION Abner Sarazue contacted IJD AZ Executive Director Dr. Jones to join him in co-producing the 30th Glendale Jazz & Blues Festival on April 30th 2021. Dr. Jones contacted UNESCO and the Herbie Hancock Institute to get sanction for the city of Glendale to be the Official Arizona city for the 9th Annual International Jazz Day Celebration.
