• The Enumclaw Hometown Book Club is featuring Seattle author Garth Stein and his book “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” A video chat with the author will take place at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Enumclaw Public Library’s meeting rooms. • Tickets for Stage Door Productions’ performances of “James and the Giant Peach” and “Noises Off” are on sale. Stage Door Productions youth actors, ages 9 to 14, will bring the classic of James, his gigantic magical peach and his adventures with a wild group of insects to the stage. Performances are slated for 7 p.m. Oct. 22, 23 and 24 with an additional matinee at 2 p.m. Oct. 24 at the White River High School theater. Advance tickets, $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and students, are available at the Arts Alive! Gallery, Enumclaw Chamber of Commerce, Enumclaw Radio Shack and online at www.stagedoorprod.org. Tickets will be available at the door for $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. “Noises Off” is the story of an inept troupe of actors that attempts to perform a play. The curtain goes up at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8, 9 and 10 and again Oct. 15, 16 and 17 at the White River High School theater. Matinees are also scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct. 10 and 11 and Oct. 17. • Crystal Quilters will host a show, “Putting the Pieces Together,” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 9 and 10 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 11. The show will be at Buckley Hall, 127 N. River Rd. in Buckley. Admission is $3 and proceeds will benefit the Buckley Food Bank.

• The Enumclaw Public Library will host award-winning Wilkeson children’s author Peg Kehret at 11 a.m. Oct. 24. Kehret’s latest book “Runaway Twin” will be released Oct. 15. • The Black Diamond Library’s Brown Bag Book Bunch will meet at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 8 to discuss “The Ghost’s Grave” by Peg Kehret. Ages 8 to 12 and their grown-up, younger siblings are welcome. • The Black Diamond library’s After-School Book Bunch will meet at 3:45 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Black Diamond Elementary school library to discuss “The Ghost’s Grave” by Peg Kehret. This event is open to children ages 8 to 12. Join leaders after school for free pizza and great books. Students staying after school at Black Diamond Elementary School must have a permission slip from their parents. • English as a Second Language – ESL classes are again being offered from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings beginning today, Wednesday, at the Enumclaw Public Library, 1700 First St. The classes involve group activities, individual assistance and access to Rosetta Stone English language software. Rosetta Stone is a way for ESL students to begin speaking, reading, writing and compre-

Meetings

• The Enumclaw Forested Foothills Recreation Association (EFFRA) is having a general meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Triple C Pleasure Horses, 42829 244th Ave. S.E. in Enumclaw. This is a general membership meeting with Board of Directors elections and a pot luck dinner. Elections begin at 7 p.m. EFFRA is a group working toward conserving the Enumclaw foothills. Enumclaw Senior Activity Center

All activities are at the center, 1350 Cole St., unless otherwise noted. Information is available by phoning 360-825-4741. • A Lucky Eagle Casino trip is set for Oct. 13. There is a $2 trip charge with payment due at registration. Motor coach arrives at 9 a.m. and returns around 4:15 p.m. • Haircuts by Char are available Thursday for $5, payment is made to Char the day of the haircut. Haircuts are available between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. by appointment only. • AARP Driver Safety Programs’ two-day class is schedued for 6 to 10 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Sign up in the office. • A cooking class with Marshall is set for 1 p.m. Oct. 8. Learn to prepare a delicious meal of beef fajitas with flour tortillas. Bring a container to transport dinner home. • The Wellness Committee will be serving a fresh fruit or vegetables appetizers at 11 a.m. Oct. 12. • Massage therapy with licensed massage therapist Amy Storey will be offered at the center Oct. 14 by appointment. For a 20-minute massage it will cost $10, payment made to Storey. • Flu and pneumonia immunizations are around the corner and the center will be taking reservations for Oct. 22 and 23 between 9 a.m. and noon. All immunizations will be at the center. New this year is Enumclaw’s Safeway Pharmacy staff and they are accepting Medicare B, Sterling, Medicare Advantage, Secure Horizons cards and Medicaid coupons for flu immunizations. Buckley Senior Center

The Buckley Senior Center is at 811 Main St. and can be reached at 360-8290190. • Nurses will be at the center from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday and again Nov. 2 to administer flu shots. Flu shots are $30 and pneumonia shots are $40. They will bill Medicare and private insurance; accept cash, check and charge. Those with HMOs are requested to go to their primary care physician.

Buckley Youth Center

The Buckley Youth Activity Center is open 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It is located on River Avenue next

Animal Blessing

Everyone is welcome to bring their animals for the blessing service. Small animals like dogs, cats, and rabbits will be blessed during the service in the church sanctuary. Larger animals like horses, cattle, and sheep will be blessed outside following the service. Animals are an important part of our lives, and in the creation account in Genesis, God blessed the animals and said it was good.
