The Skagit Valley College Board of Trustees recently elected Don Piercy of Coupeville as board chairman for the 2009-10 academic year. Piercy teaches marketing and corporate finance at Embry-Riddle University and was recently senior vice president and director of marketing for Pacific Northwest Bank. He was appointed to the board in 2007.

Whidbey General Hospital recently recognized hospital employees for 10 years of commitment to the principles of “Patients First,” a mission adopted in 2000 to improve each patient’s experience at Whidbey General. New CEO Tom Tomasino made a donation to the hospital foundation to inscribe a commemorative leaf on the hospital lobby’s Tree of Life, citing a caring focus on patients.

Blooms Winery of Freeland is releasing two wines this spring. “Ambrosia” is a slightly sweet wine made with rhubarb grown at Blooms Winery and blended with Viognier. “Poetry” is a blend of red varieties from Eastern Washington’s Yakima and Columbia Valleys: Syrah, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Caller was upset as it appears the calf is very cold. 9:28 a.m. Two pit bulls chased caller on Wellington while she was on her run. Caller hopped a ditch and hid in the tree line. Saturday, March 13 4:23 p.m. Caller on Beachwood says she loaned a vehicle to a man and that he has chopped it up. When caller’s boyfriend went to confront him about a business deal, the man pulled a shotgun out and told him to get off his property. 9:46 p.m. Caller on Terry reports two or three cows in the road, now leaving the roadway into a field behind Tyee. Sunday, March 14 9:45 p.m. Caller on Heller says juveniles are running around and squealing. Hears someone outside but can’t see anyone.
