Arts Space Wodonga With up to 10 exhibitions a year, Arts Space Wodonga offers a unique space for North East Victorian artists to present, discuss and communicate their practices to a growing local and national audience. Exhibitions extend from emerging and professional practicing contemporary artists, to touring exhibitions and projects held in conjunction with cultural organisations.

Maree Clarke Reimaging Culture: Contemporary Connections to Country
Arts Space Wodonga is thrilled to present an exhibition of new and existing work by Mutti Mutti and Boon Wurrung artist Maree Clarke. This powerful collection of multimedia works continues Clarke’s focus on the revival of South East Australian Aboriginal art and culture. Clarke reaffirms and revitalises lost traditions and signifys the rightful place of these practices within contemporary art. The exhibition celebrates the passing on of cultural knowledge and traditional art practices, with many new works being the result of collaborations between the artist and young members of her family. Clarke’s constantly evolving practice unites traditional materials, method and meanings with emerging technology as a means to immerse viewers and mesh the present with the past. NAIDOC Celebration: Join us for a dance performance by 3 Deadly Rivers - Adrian Sullivan, Kerrin Parkes and Benji Davidson - followed by morning tea to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements. Re-Mapped Joanne Mott
Opening: Saturday, July 28, 2pm Re-Mapped by Gisborne-based artist Joanne Mott is a visually-alluring exhibition which shines a spotlight on the significant social and environmental impacts of globalisation. Traditionally used to record territories and borders, coloured map pins are used to reconstruct and distort world globe compositions, to sculpturally separate and isolate countries from continents and neighbours, and to draw a site-specific wall diagram linking every country in the world in one continuous chain. By playfully reconstructing territories and borders through the physical act of pinning, Mott raises questions about ownership, consumption, intention and authority. Schools workshop: Spot the Path Mapping Project This workshop will engage participants with their locality through art-based explorations of their region using mapping as a visual device to articulate their personal relationship to space and place. Archetypes and Land: Spiritual Belonging Bärbel Ullrich
Opening: Saturday, September 8, 2pm by Dr Neill Overton, Senior Lecturer in Art History and Visual Culture, Charles Sturt University. Bärbel Ullrich’s ongoing exploration into representations of land and place – reflect a deep and sacred appreciation of, and connection to, Earth. Ullrich aims to present land as spiritual, and reflective of an interconnectedness of life on the planet and unity of existence. Her focus on microcosms, reflecting particularities of a place are juxtaposed with universal qualities, drawing from archetypes that hail from diverse mythologies. Arts Space Wodonga is thrilled to present the visual culmination of Ullrich’s PhD, recently completed at Charles Sturt University. Ullrich’s methodology has included the development of imagery and concepts through art making, research and experimentation with materials and techniques. Holiday printing workshop: Inspired by the works of Ullrich, learn the basics of creating your own linocut with local artist Linda Fish. Wanton, Wild and Unimagined Alison McDonald

Wanton, Wild and Unimagined is a playful exhibition of sculptured recycled plastics that stirs the imagination and evokes environmental reflection. Townsville environmental artist Alison McDonald has spent hours manipulating the humble plastic bottle, and collecting thousands of lids to make a variety of unimagined and impossible creations inspired by plants, oceans and by John Wyndham’s book The Day of the Triffids. McDonald reuses plastics in an attempt to raise questions about the relationship we have with plastic and its supposed sustainability. Wanton, Wild and Unimagined is a travelling exhibition organised by Umbrella Studio contemporary arts, toured by Museums and Galleries Queensland. This project has been assisted by the Australian Government’s Visions of Australia program and supported by the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, an initiative of the Australian, state and territory governments.

Year 12 Arts Show 2018 Year 12 Art Exhibition from schools across the Border
Cross venue opening: Friday, December 14, 4.30pm to 7pm The official opening for this exhibition will occur simultaneously across all three venues. Arts Space Wodonga is delighted to collaborate with Murray Art Museum Albury and the Albury LibraryMuseum to showcase artworks by Year 12 students from across the Albury-Wodonga region. Come and see what drives the young creatives of tomorrow through an exhibition of work developed for Year 12 assessment. We look forward to hosting our young local artists and community networks.

Talk and Tour Arts Space Wodonga is a unique learning space that provides the opportunity for educators and students to explore our current exhibition. Designed to complement the exhibitions, our Talk and Tour program encourages visitors to engage with artworks through in-depth considerations of exhibition, themes and artists. Opportunities are given to discuss artworks, their cultural and social contexts and possible interpretations. Art Buzz Art Buzz offers hands-on art making opportunities for preschool-aged children. It is a weekly program that enables children to work with materials and themes that relate to the Arts Space exhibition. It is a fun way to be engaged with and introduced to the gallery environment and gives visiting children and their families a chance to mix with other families who love art. Just Paint Drop in after school to just paint! Get creative with a variety of painting materials and tools. Just Paint is perfect for kids who love art and want to experiment with a variety of ways to express themselves creatively.
