Say hello to Hyphen
FRIDAY, AUGUST 6 - 10am to 6pm | SATURDAY, AUGUST 7 - 9am to 3pm | SUNDAY, AUGUST 8 - 10am to 3pm Welcome to our newest community space in the heart of Wodonga. Our exciting new venue is dedicated to the presentation of experiences that nurture creativity, connection and curiosity in an accessible and inspiring environment. It is a place where the community of Wodonga, as well as visitors to the city, can encounter, discover and connect with ideas, skills and knowledge. Our name – Hyphen – connects the building’s twin purposes of art and literature and reflects its amazing architecture and dash-like shape – the signature cantilever over the building’s main entrance. Hyphen features three main galleries – Artspace Gallery, Playspace Gallery and Community Gallery – as well as a full library service. It also features three meeting rooms; the Community Studio overlooking the courtyard suitable for workshops, meetings and presentations; Creative Studio for resident artists; Tech Studio and Sound Studio; and, a Sculpture Terrace. Hyphen offers a range of activities and events including Storytime, children’s art workshops, author and artist talks, STEAM programs, exhibitions and art programs.
Picturing the Past – Community Gallery Reflect on Wodonga’s past through an exhibition of artefacts and photographs from the Wodonga Historical Society collection. Tying together community themes of time, place and memory, everyone is encouraged to share their thoughts and memories about the people, places and moments featured by posting a comment on Hyphen socials. These comments could also feature as part of the exhibition. High St Wodonga, C. mid 1900s, Photographer unknown. Image courtesy Wodonga Historical Society.

Featuring First Nations stories, Nyanda - the Dhudhuroa word for “many” is a collection of artworks from four contemporary Aboriginal artists who explore their personal stories about place and identity.
Their works aim to delight, provide opportunities for discovery and engage the senses. Bethany Thornber (Wiradjuri), Treahna Hamm (Yorta Yorta), Tegan Murdock (Barkindtji, Dhudhuroa) and Trish Cerminara (Gamilaori) share narratives of past, present and future, through their use of both traditional and unique contemporary art practices including painting, weaving, costume and sculpture.
