EDITOR’S LETTER
W
ith another New Year comes our annual opportunity for an exciting fresh start. It’s time to think forward, dream big, live well, work hard and be fearless as you face the boundless possibilities of 2014. Just remember, these next twelve months aren’t going to fill themselves. First stop on your plan to seize the day? Head over to page 14 for our feature on Credible Fitness, a fantastic local personal training business promoting health and wellbeing. In fact, we were so inspired by the motivational words of our fitness expert Deborah Evans, we thought it was high time we kicked our breakfasts into gear. So put down that bland box of cereal, abandon your carb-ridden toast, and feast your eyes on page 22. Breakfast is served. If sitting down is more your thing (don’t worry, it’s ours too), then train your brain with some puzzles on page 18, and fill up your new diary with the butterflyriddled events section on page 8. With all of that on your mind, (and on your plate), we wish you happiness, health and prosperity for 2014.

PRECIOUS MEMORIES
N
o wedding day would be complete without the images captured in your photo album. These snapshots of your special moments are treasured forever, there to revisit and cherish for years to come. They are the most special mementos of your experiences shared on the day of a lifetime. Finding the right photographer for the job is an important decision in the wedding planning process – and yet for many, it is one that is rushed or overlooked. Do you prefer a traditional approach with posed images and conventional lighting? Are you looking for a naturalistic style with lots of candid shots? Or perhaps a touch of the glitz and glamour of fashion photography in your bridal portraits?
W
hatever your p r e fe r e n c e s , making these decisions should by no means be stressful. Professional wedding photographers have a range of packages to suit every budget and situation,

or example, consider arranging to meet your photographer for a “first look”. This is an opportunity for the bride and groom to share a quiet moment before the ceremony, and ensure the day is as stressfree as possible, knowing that those intimate must-have shots are taken care of hours before the wedding. Many photographers also offer a range of printing and portfolio services so that your photos can take pride of place in the home. From high-resolution images on disc to beautifully bound hardback albums, the magic of image making is safe in the hands of Kevin Holding at Surrey Photo.

Credible Fitness All About You
As the annual New Year’s weight battle looms, Deborah Evans from Credible Fitness is whipping Woking’s women into shape with her inspiring Personal Training courses, and fat-busting Fit Camp sessions
W
ith the toll of every New Year’s Day comes the timely promise of millions of women. After a long, hard look in the mirror, and a hurried contemplation of a sin-laden Christmas, the stern sense of determination sets in. “This will be the year,” you tell yourself. “I will lose weight, eat sensibly, and transform myself into a vision of health and happiness.” Dumbbells mysteriously emerge from the depths of your wardrobe, plastic wrap is torn eagerly from new food diaries, and photos of bikini-clad models are fervently ripped out of magazines and stuck onto every kitchen cabinet in sight. Inevitably there are a few good days, where your regime is adhered to faultlessly. Then a New Year’s dinner party emerges, an innocent coffee invitation, 14 WOKINGJOURNAL.CO.UK
an irresistible craving or two, and that steadfast determination wafts away on the steam of a creamy hot chocolate. The dumbbells are cast away under the bed, the food diary is guiltily buried, and those scantily clad models? Well, you never liked them anyway. And sure enough, as January pushes on, your resolve withers into dust.
P
ersonal Trainer Deborah Evans tells you why this year is different. Credible Fitness approaches the tricky issue of weight loss from three important angles. Firstly, it tackles physical fitness, by improving flexibility, muscle toning, and physical form. Deb loves training outdoors, using fresh air and sunshine to help invigorate her clients, in a sociable and supportive environment. Each session is tailor-made for individuals, ensuring every exercise is customised to help you reach your goals.
Secondly, she considers nutrition, as her clients embark on a four-week detox, eliminating ingredients such as wheat, dairy and alcohol. These changes replace harmful ingredients with a cleaner diet, improving hydration, energy levels, and removing chemicals in favour of natural foods.
“
M
enu-planning is one of Deb’s specialties, and her meals not only slot in easily with hectic lifestyles, but are also realistic to maintain. Many women find themselves startled at what they’re encouraged to eat, with traditionally fatty foods taking top spots on the breakfast menu. She muses that, “It’s not a diet, this is a way of life. It’s a lifestyle change we’re creating here.” Finally, Deb looks into each clients’ mental approach to losing weight, by challenging personal perceptions, changing existing mentalities about weight, and discovering what is achievable for you. “A lot of it is about your mind,” says Deb, “and changing how you think about yourself.”
H
”
It’s a lifestyle change we’re creating
er mantras are strictly motivational. With a desire to help women reach their goals and improve self-esteem, comes an understanding that faultlessness is dangerously unattainable. “If you are
caught out, don’t beat yourself up about it. In an ideal world we’d all do it right 100% of the time, but you can’t. If you can be good 80% of the time, you’re going a long way to achieving what you want.” Instead of demanding perfection, Deb gives individuals the tools to manage their diets, and sustain exercise routines beyond a simple one-hour session. With increased energy levels and improved fitness, clients find themselves on an upward spiral of success.
I
n her own words, “You’ve got to batter down the excuses of why you can’t do this.” It’s about transforming the negative associations of weight loss into positive ones; about reinventing the banality of exercise into something you genuinely enjoy. And above all, Credibe Fitness is about energising yourself with a newfound confidence and a sense of determination that truly lasts. So come on ladies, because this really is your year.
Personal Training from £35/hour for 12 sessions, plus a free initial assessment Fit Camp £97 for 12 sessions over 4 weeks Call Deb Evans on 07970 428 734, or email Deb10@crediblefitness.co.uk

WATER
FOOD & DRINK
COFFEE
Good quality coffee, that is. Caffeine has wormed its way into our everyday lives, and it’s not going anywhere. So despite scrapping it during her four-week detox plan, Deb permits a black cup or two in the morning for parched busy bees.
It’s no secret that hydration is essential to keeping healthy, but it’s equally well known that we don’t take it seriously enough. Not only does water increase energy levels, but it also cleanses the body of toxins, aids digestion and combats headaches. So it’s two litres a day, every day, starting at breakfast time.
BANANAS
Bananas are perfect breakfast fodder, thanks to their ability to sustain blood sugar and energy levels during exercise. They also help to combat anaemia and high blood pressure, whilst their natural antacids soothe heartburn too.
BREAKFAST MELON & PARMA HAM
BERRIES
Berries are your best friend for cramming in antioxidants, staving off illness, and protecting your skin and hair. Rich in Vitamin C and genuinely delicious, try eating these little wonders piled scrumptiously on some tasty Greek yoghurt.
22 WOKINGJOURNAL.CO.UK
22
SMOKED SALMON
Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids, salmon is great for reducing stress, improving memory and increasing brain efficiency.
EGGS
Sound a little strange for breakfast? It shouldn’t. This tasty combination is a really nutritious start to the day, with melons boasting an abundance of Vitamin B6 and potassium, whilst also building immunity.
Jam-packed full of protein, the humble egg is one of the most nutritious ingredients out there. Cook them up any way you like, and reap the benefits of Vitamin A, potassium and folic acid. Deb even says you can fry them. (Honestly, we checked!)
