A Prayer for Confidence “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:9, KJV) Heavenly Father, in all thine infinite wisdom and grace, I come saying thank You! Thank You for bringing me to this point in my life. You have brought me far in this journey called life and I am forever indebted to You. It is here and now that I thank You for confidence! No one is able to be against me or do me any harm because You stand with me. There is a hedge of protection You have provided that surrounds me. When ever I am in doubt, I know to believe in Your Word when You tell me to be strong. This means I can be confident in the fact that You are indeed with me no matter where I go! Please keep protecting me and being the driving force that allows me to continue moving forward in this life making sound decisions that reflect who I am in You. Your Word is true and it dwells deep in my spirit. In Your precious son Jesus’s name, I say Amen! So it may be!

The Confident You! God has created you to be uniquely you. Part of this uniqueness is showing up in your confidence. The Oxford dictionary defines confidence as, "the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust:" As Christian believers our first reliance should be on our Heavenly Father. Getting to this place of confidence in God takes times of continued trial and error. Doubts, fears, and tested faith in our walk with God makes it hard at times to trust, but we must keep pressing on. This is why we are instructed to continually renew our minds (Romans 12:1,2). A reset and refocus is a 24 hour/7 days a week task of the Believer. Not only do we combat these emotions and testings on a personal level, but we also have to contend with the enemy who works against our faith by taunting our thoughts and using people to come against us in negative ways. Our confidence is tested on every level, but at each level we must be overcomers. Here are a few ways we can operate in our mandate of being confident: 1. Slow your self down and think about where you are and where you want to be in life. Showing up in confidence requires you to decide to be your best self. 2. Live in your truth. God needs you to operate in your uniqueness and no one else. Someone is in need of the true you. 3. Don't be afraid to be Bold in who you are. Let them think and say what they will, but confidence in self is required and showing up boldly is too. 4. Be free in who God called you to be and no one else. 5. Take the trash out - dispose of all "baggage" that weighs you down and keeps you in doubt, fear, insecurity, and self-sabotage. "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:" Philippians 1:6 KJV

God Confidence over Self Confidence Let’s first start with the definition of confidence vs self confidence. Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something; firm trust. Self-confidence is a feeling of trust in one’s own abilities, qualities and judgement. So, can we question the validity of self-confidence outside of God confidence? Yes, I believe so. Let me explain. The story begins with our mother, Sarah, wife of Abraham. GOD Confidence - Believe God * Abraham’s Covenant with God Genesis 13:16; Genesis 15:1-6 SELF Confidence * Sarah said, perhaps I can build a family through her. Genesis 16:1-4 * It had been ten years since God spoke His covenant to Abraham. Genesis 16:3
* Hagar became pregnant and she began to despise Sarah. Genesis 16:5 * Sarah blamed Abraham for HER choices. Genesis 16:5 * Sarah treated Hagar harshly and humiliated her for her behavior Genesis 16:6 GOD Confidence - Trust, Wait, & Obey God * The angel told Hagar to humbly return to Sarah and to submit to her authority Genesis 16:9 * Abraham was 86 when Ishmael was born Genesis 16:15 * God reminded Abraham of his covenant with him. Genesis 18:1-15 * Abraham was 100 when Isaac was born In conclusion, can we operate in self confidence? Yes. Is it recommended? As a Christian, I wouldn’t recommend it. Sarah’s example shows us what happens when we allow confidence in our own abilities, qualities, and judgement to overtake us. Christians shouldn't crave confidence outside of God confidence. When our lives are fully surrendered to God, we are dead to our fleshly self and we’re made new and come alive through Jesus Christ. ALL of our confidence comes from God, is birthed through Christ, and is a burning flame lit by the Holy Spirit within us. Amen.

OK, FEAR I’M THROUGH WITH YOU Fear can be breath-taking force stealing inspiration and halting your dreams right in their tracks. Even in 2021 mid to post pandemic we all face fears daily—sometimes unlike those of years past. And despite unprecedented times we probably are dreaming with bigger vision than we have previously. Our hearts and minds are overflowing with the possibilities our new goals hold for us, yet we feel stuck. Not moving, just

waiting, hoping — dreaming. Dreams are the possibility of what could be yet without action we take the risk of them dying on the canvas of our soul never to be experienced by us or the co others they were meant to impact. So come on Sis! You made it this far, it’s time to take your unsinkable resolve, harness your faith and move out on these dreams. Fear never promises to run away once you embrace the significance of your future self. So, you might as well get going, take massive action and do it afraid. 2021 | summer edition
DO IT AFRAID This is a simple declaration to encourage you to move, despite not having all the pieces of the puzzle together. None of us ever start with a full picture or guarantee of our path and its outcomes when we we first set on the big journey. Start anyway. All big things have a start and typically not quite pretty ones. However, this simple first step is super powerful. Beginning tells God that you trust what he has placed in you. By starting, you tell yourself you can do amazing things. In the personal development space there is no shortage of blog posts, sermons, podcasts or books on confidence and courage and with that in mind without fear I intend to add my three cents to the conversation. Time to move forward in the face of fear. Impossible things are possible with faith and focused action. You can change your world with the gifts you hold inside.
2021 | summer edition
ANSWER THE QUESTIONS Doubt is a kissing cousin to fear. It is the compilations of “What Ifs” and unanswered questions that swirl in your mind and open the door for anxiety. The greatest solution for this is doing your research. Never try to ignore your doubts. Sit with them and identify what fear is being elicited. Often our concerns are protection. Our mind wants to keep us safe and what is more scary than the unknown. We diffuse doubt and fear by seeking knowledge, getting answers. Talk to mentors, colleagues, and other leaders doing something similar to what God is leading you to do. Share your doubts and ask how they would handle some of your concerns. The more you know, the more you’ll be empowered to go.
2021 | summer edition
BE PERFECTLY IMPERFECT When starting something new, we are typically not great in the beginning. To be quite honest, we may actually be quite terrible at first. This is a good sign and a good thing. It means you are human and you are building the backstory of your ultimate success. Know that you are going to make poor decisions of various kinds — and it’s ok. Embrace the hard lessons and celebrate all the wins no matter how small and watch resilience and confidence grow. Perfection is illusive and deceptive. It is humanly impossible and will still the joy of the journey. So start now despite what it looks like.
2021 | summer edition
SHARPEN YOUR STRENGTHS It is crucial not to play into the conversations about what you can not do. Instead, hone the skills and strengths that you effortlessly use every day. By looking at our weaknesses, we create a clear path for fear to take your heart, stealing opportunities to walk through doors God has opened for you. Use your natural and spiritual gifts to give you an advantage. Invest money and time expanding them and they will expand you. Trust that God will magnify them and bring you the connections you need that support your areas of weakness — and keep growing. Following your purpose and passion is a big deal. There will be challenges along the way, especially if it’s something friends and family don’t clearly understand or support. Follow them anyway! Your vision is so much bigger than cars, money or influence and that’s why it’s scary. It is bigger than you — and that can be overwhelming. However, if you challenge the doubts in your head and move from your heart, courage will build inside you. If you embrace ugly beginnings and take joy in the learning, you’ll master your emotions and motivate other world changers along the way. Finally, go hard with sharing your strengths with your community and use full tilt in the passion project you are building. Then watch doors open to add momentum to your growth. Sis, you got this! No more inaction, no more being stuck, and no more procrastination. It’s time to just do the thing and you can do it afraid! 2021 | summer edition
