FYE Diversity Project Paper

Donnie Lakes 10/23/2014 Ms. Brown FYE – 105 – 016 Diversity Project My Diversity Project Folder For my cover I put all the images in black in white. The reason for that is to show that when people look at you for the first time, it’s as if they look at you in black and white, meaning that they don’t really see the full color picture or better said the real you. I honestly don’t know people’s true first impressions of me are, but some that I thought maybe people see me as is that I am younger than I really am (the word younger), a boring laid back person (the face in the top left corner), a shy person (bottom right corner), an introverted thinker (the snoopy picture) & a quite person (the center left picture). I think people think this about me is because they may see me when I am alone or when I’m in a situation were I need to be quite & toned down.

For the inside I put full color images. This is to show the real me. A bright & outgoing person who loves people & loves life! Some things people may not see at first glance or just coming in contact with me is that: I’m strong in my faith in Christ (the cross), I love music & love to sing (the music notes), I’m well rooted in the Bible & base my life upon it (the Bible), I am older than I appear (19), I take my academics & education very seriously & strive to do my dead-level best(graduation cap), I love the movies & love to act (the clap board), I’m a very happy & encouraging person to be around (the smiley face), I live on WiFi (just kidding) I set the bar high for myself in all that I do (WiFi bar), I’m a bright & smart person (the light bulb), I love & live media

(the various media tools picture), I’m a fun & funny person to be around (the clown glasses & nose), I’m a real kid at heart & love to work with kids such as the children’s & teens ministries at my church (the kids image). Like I stated before, the reason why people don’t know the real me is because they don’t want to know me. If they really knew who I really am, they would take the time to get to know my likes/dislikes & me.

During this project I had to think hard about who I really am & what really represents me. It was also tough to think “what do people see me as at a first glance?”. So this project really “opened my eyes”. I also learned that diversity & stereotyping along with “judging a book by it’s cover” is not a good thing. In order to know a person you must take the time to get to know who they really are. So I learned not to make instant judgment of someone till I get to know them & who they really are.
