Capacity-Building Training for Educators As a key dimension of its mission, APCEIU regularly offers professional development and training workshops on EIU to promote “Learning to Live Together in the 21st Century.” Over the years, APCEIU has diversified the thematic focus and beneficiaries of EIU training programmes and refined the training programmes for more effective delivery of the content. APCEIU’s training programmes have reoriented the role of educators as the agents of change and produced thousands of alumni with extensive networks and strong commitments who are leading the development of national trainings for a multitude of teachers in their own countries.

Research and Policy Development APCEIU plays a major role as a provider of a platform for policy dialogues across the Asia-Pacific region. Reviewing education policies, updating schools and teacher education curricula and developing learning materials are encouraged towards adopting perspectives on respect for human dignity and rights, cultural diversity, sustainability, and peace. The role of APCEIU is dramatically intensified to meet such calls of the Member States by articulating global citizenship education in light of EIU towards a Culture of Peace. In order to accomplish this role, APCEIU is challenged to provide policy-makers, teacher educators and educational experts with intelligible conceptual frameworks, innovative policy advice and feasible plans of action, all of which must be well grounded on and highly relevant to the contexts and needs of the Member States.

International Teacher Exchange In order to nurture and equip the next generation with the perspectives and competence needed in globalized and multicultural societies, schools and teachers should be provided with opportunities for a broader spectrum of global educational experiences and capacity building. Recognizing the critical role of teachers, APCEIU is channeling its efforts to strengthen teachers’ global competence through various regional and inter-regional teacher exchange programmes. These exchange programmes aim to develop teachers’ intercultural communication skills and global competence through field experiences, to enhance ties and mutual understanding between participating countries, and to build a network of teachers and schools for exchange and partnerships.

Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education This teacher exchange programme was launched in 2012 as a bilateral exchange programme between the Republic of Korea and several countries in Asia and the Pacific. Through an exchange that ranges from 3 to 6 months, participating teachers have opportunities to better understand each other’s education system and culture and enhance their global education competence. Currently, the following programmes are in action with the prospect of increasing the number of participating countries as the programme scope expands: ● Teacher Exchanges with Asian Countries : Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Philippines

Teaching Abroad for Global Competency In order to meet the need for global citizenship education competency in the globalized classroom, this programme enables in-service teachers to exchange visits and conduct co-teaching lessons in host schools of foreign countries for 2~4 weeks. ● Participants come from the Republic of Korea, Australia, Russia, Singapore, UK, and USA.

Dissemination of EIU Materials and Information The scope of our material development ranges from training manuals for different areas and levels of education to user-friendly aids and reading resources, with due consideration for research findings and suggestions in terms of both content and form.
