Engineered Hardwood Flooring – Providing a Great Flooring Stability Have you wondered what engineered hardwood flooring is? It is a flooring which is made from the core of hardwood, plywood or high density fiberboard (HDF) that contains a top layer of hardwood veneer that is attached to the surface of the core. You can find engineered hardwood flooring in just about any kind of species of hardwood. The end result gives the natural qualities of the hardwood you have chosen rather than a photographic layer. This engineered product has been made to provide the flooring with better stability, especially in areas where moisture or heat would cause a problem for conventional solid hardwood flooring. The difference between a laminate flooring, solid hardwood flooring and engineered hardwood flooring are stated below: Laminate floor is normally made of High Density Fiber or HDF. The top layer is a photographic layer that mimics the appearance of the product it is imitating. This is often wood, vinyl, or tile. The product is typically about 3/8 inch thick and has a tongue and groove locking system that does not make use of glue. This allows you to install and reinstall the flooring repeatedly if you wish. Laminate floor is the most affordable of the flooring options. Solid hardwood is the naturally wood throughout the whole flooring. This usually comes with a tongue and groove installation. A solid hardwood floor offers a good sanding and refinishing capabilities. It is much more expensive, and has limitations to where it can be installed because of moisture and heat issues. Engineered hardwood flooring often has 3 or more core layers. The more layers you have, the better the stability you can have. The core layers of engineered hardwood flooring can be produced of plywood, high density fiberboard or hardwood. The most important part of engineered hardwood flooring is the fact that is does not ruin the natural warmth and beauty of a classic solid hardwood floor. The top layer is similar to genuine hardwood you would have in solid hardwood flooring. By installing engineered hardwood flooring, you can add the warmth and harmony offered by solid hardwood flooring with half of its cost.
