F
rom the air, it resembles a giant artist’s palette: seven dabs of paint presenting seven vibrant colours. From the ground, the seven dabs of paint become seven colourful oases—blossoming like flowers in the North African desert and collectively offering Marrakech resort living at its best. This is Douja Golf Resort in a theme concept called, appropriately, “Colours.” The colours of Douja’s seven oases are inspired by the colours of seven Moroccan cities—a different city colour tastefully embellishing each oasis. While Marrakech red dominates all seven oases, comprising the exterior walls and other large structural components, the other colours manifest themselves in rooftop gardens, architectural accents, pavers, fountains, plazas, pools and numerous other hardscape and landscape features. Even the architectural lighting picks up the colour theme, adding a vibrant quality after dusk. The total effect is not just enchanting; it also adds character and personality, helping to establish an exclusive colour identity for each neighborhood. Yet even though each oasis is distinct and unique, they are all clearly related to one another, sharing a common vision. The largest of the oases of the Douja Golf Resort features the complex’s city center and marketplace. A smoothly curving red wall—a stylized reinterpretation of the Marrakech city wall that symbolically brings a piece of the old city into the resort—marks the entrance to the marketplace, providing a strong sense of transition as guests venture within. The environment inside the wall is lush and gardenlike...rich with colour, texture and life, and blissfully sequestered from all vehicular traffic. Here, shops and boutiques offer a wondrous assortment of goods while the sounds of music and laughter waft through the air, mingling with mouthwatering aromas that drift from the kitchens of the rooftop cafés.
Like the old souks of Morocco, as visitors penetrate deeper within the marketplace, they find the spaces becoming increasingly more private and less public. At last, the public bustle of the marketplace gives way to the exclusive luxury and serenity of Douja’s hotel, resort and spa complex—separated from the pink/red marketplace by a sparkling blue pool. At the end of the bridge spanning the pool, Douja’s opulant hotel beckons enticingly, set against a verdant green landscape. The hotel’s orientation provides guests with breathtaking views of the Atlas Mountains to the south and, more immediately, the adjacent island-situated spa suites that float in a sparkling blue lagoon behind the hotel. The smooth red wall of the marketplace also enrobes Douja’s Medina residential oasis, which (like the six other oases) features its own private pool area, fitness center, and covered parking, along with direct access to the marketplace’s myriad retail, dining and entertainment offerings. The six other residential oases of the Colours concept offer similar amenities, along with splendid views of the world-class tournament golf course that completely embraces them. Comprised of exclusive estate houses and attached villas, each of the residential oases features its own key Moroccan colour accents and its own unique character, offering an exceptional and sumptuous lifestyle not found anywhere else in Morocco. The crown jewel of Douja Golf Resort is the striking 3-storey Golf Clubhouse, which each revolves 360-degrees in opposite directions to offer remarkable views of the mountains and cityscape beyond the resort. The topmost floor houses an exclusive fine dining restaurant serving residents and guests staying at the Resort hotel. The rotating middle floor contains restaurants and lounges for the exclusive use of Douja Golf Club mem-
bers and their guests. The ground floor clubhouse, with its pro shop, booking desk, lounge, lockers and changing rooms, are also reserved exclusively for the use by Club members and their guests. There are also below-grade facilities including the cart garage, starting area, and additional lockers. The clubhouse rooftop, meanwhile, features an observation deck, along with a lounge and café—perfect for appreciating the stunning panoramic vista: to the north, the Masjid Koutoubia with its celebrated minaret… to the south, the awesome expanse of the Atlas Mountains… and all around, the rolling green fairways of the world-class tournament golf course. As used at the Douja Golf Resort, the number “seven” also evokes the legendary Seven Saints of Morocco. Regarded by some as muse-like patrons of the arts, the Seven Saints provide some of the creative inspiration for the interactive art scene that adds even more vitality to the “Colours” concept. Here, visitors and residents will feel encouraged to explore their own artistic potential through numerous classes, workshops, and other participatory opportunities.

Eclectic - Eclectic is an architectural character inspired by Morocco’s Berber vernacular. Traditional details, color, and materials reflect an indigenous architecture of Marrakesh’s distinct natural environment, while its elegance and simplicity hint at a more modern design expression.

Regal - Regal is a romantic architectural character which embraces the phrase “timeless elegance”. The architecture here finds its roots in the world renowned style of Moorish architecture. Classical and famous buildings such as Alhambra & Granada Palaces, the Kotobiya Mosque and some of Morocco’s most elegant historical monuments are a source of inspiration of this Moorish architectural character. The buildings will be characterized by elements such as tiled pitched roofs, ornate colonnades and magnificent terraces and gardens. This architectural style will be new and innovative to Marrakech as it creates a new Andalusia in Douja Golf Resort.

Contemporary is the abstraction of Moroccan architecture. It is characterized by interlocking planes, clustered volumes, and a seamless continuation of indoor and outdoor living. The architecture is inspired by contemporary design in regions with similar climates, such as Greece, Spain and Mexico. This architecture emphasizes the tactile beauty of local building materials, creates drama through the use of strong colors, and engages the surrounding natural environment through a clean and unique expression. -
