he altiport – the term by which highaltitude airports are known – is run by ten employees during the main winter season. Anyone who works here has to be a good all-rounder: manager, fireman, runway clearance. The team works hand in hand to keep the 1,762-feet (537-metre) short runway free of snow at all times, ensuring the approximately 7,500 flight movements per year can proceed smoothly. Some 6,500 of those movements take place in the winter, with helicopters accounting for 70 percent and aircraft for 30 percent.
T
Only the PC-12 Has What it Takes Fabien Rousset, Director of Flight Operations at Jetfly, the largest PC-12 operator in Europe, explains: “Courchevel is one of the world’s most demanding airports. Very few aircraft types have what it takes to land here.” Jetfly carries out some 150 passenger flights to Courchevel every year, making it the largest operator on site in terms of market share. “The PC-12 is the only aircraft capable of flying eight passengers across Europe and then landing here”, he adds. The runway was built in 1961 based on an idea by Michael Ziegler, a mountain and aviation enthusiast, and a former mayor of Courchevel. At that time, the first flight movements were carried out with a Pilatus Porter PC-6. Which explains why a model PC-6 now adorns the restaurant of the “Le Pilatus” Hotel, located right next to the airfield. The terrace is a great place to relax with a coffee and croissant and enjoy the fabulous mountain views while watching the action on the tarmac. Courchevel was also chosen as the location for the James Bond film, “GoldenEye”, in which a PC-6 made its big appearance.
Max Performance and Commercial Ops “The PC-12’s high-performance engine allows us to depart from the airport at the maximum permissible take-off weight”, explains François Sermon, Pilot and Training Manager with EAPC, a Belgian operator with five PC-12s in its fleet. “Even with many successful landings under your belt, the approach is always challenging. Diverse weather phenomena also require an experienced crew. As for the aircraft, the high-altitude mountainous terrain is an exacting environment in which the PC-12 can perform to the full.” In January of this year (2021), PC-12 customer Fly 7 Executive Aviation, a subsidiary of Jetfly, was the first outfit to obtain a single-engine commercial operator licence for Courchevel. As a result, Fly 7 is now authorised to use a PC-12 to fly passengers into this exceptional airport from all over Europe. The first commercial landing with the PC12 was made by Yves Girard, Senior Pilot at Fly 7 and former Commander of the Patrouille de France, and Alexandre Combes, Head of Mountain Operations, early in January of this year.
Closer to the Slopes Landing in Courchevel is a clear demonstration of just how close the PC-12 can take you to your final destination. As François Sermon says, “It’s literally impossible to land any closer to your final destination” – and all without having to sacrifice luggage or, in this case, ski equipment. The precious time saved as a result can be put to good use on the slopes in Courchevel!

The world’s first 7-bladed propeller for General Aviation now has a supplemental type certificate from the FAA (STC SA02742NY) covering the Pilatus PC-12 powered by a Pratt & Whitney P&WC PT6 engine (PT6A-67B or PT6A-67P propeller turbine). “The Silent 7 defines a new level of comfort and performance, never before experienced on any turboprop aircraft,” said German propeller manufacturer, MT-Propeller. When starting to develop the 7-bladed propeller in 2016, MT-Propeller said it “had the same vision as in 1999 when we came up with the first 5-bladed prop for turboprops.” The 5-bladed prop became an industrial standard with more than 2,500 propellers sold for various kinds of turboprops, and it is still “an ongoing success story.” “The 7-bladed propeller is pushing the new limits for certain applications to go beyond the achievement of the 5-bladed propellers,” the company added. The Silent 7 is already supplemental type certified on the PC-12 by EASA STC 10014953 R3. MT-Propeller Vice President Martin Albrecht said the installation of the 7-bladed MT-Propeller on the singleturboprop PC-12 features the following advantages: - No engine modifications necessary; - Certified Ground roll distance reduced by approx. 10%; AFMS amended; - Certified Take-off distance over 50 ft obstacle reduced by approx. 15%; AFMS amended; - Climb performance improved; - Aircraft noise level is about 4 dB(A) less than with the original metal propeller; - Cabin noise is reduced by 6 to 7 dB(A) depending on location; - Complies with strict German noise regulations (The
2010 “Landeplatz Lärmschutz Verordnung”) for unrestricted airport operations in Germany and other European Countries. Due to the smaller diameter the 7-bladed MT-Propeller for the Pilatus PC-12, the aircraft has “more ground clearance for less blade tip erosion and FOD [Foreign Object Damage].” In addition, the MT-Propeller natural composite blades provide “significant inside and outside noise reduction.” They have no life limitation and are repairable in case of FOD. They also provide “almost vibration-free propeller operation and have bonded-on nickel-alloy leading edges for superior erosion protection of the blades.” MT-Propeller claims to be the “world’s leading natural composite propeller manufacturer, with 30 certified propeller models from 2-blade to 7-blade hydraulically controlled variable pitch propeller, for engines producing up to 5000hp, and 2-blade to 4-blade electrically controlled variable pitch propeller, for engines producing up to 350hp as well as two blade fixed pitch propellers.” The high performance, light weight and durable MTPropellers can be used on aircraft with piston engines and propeller turbines, as well as on airships, wind tunnels and hovercraft. “MT-Propellers can be developed for nearly every aircraft type from motor gliders to regional airliners,” the company adds. MT-Propeller holds more than 220 STCs worldwide and is OEM supplier for more than 90 percent of the European aircraft Industry, as well as 30 percent of the US aircraft Industry. More than 25,000 propeller systems with more than 85,000 blades are in service, supported by a network of 62 factory certified service centres. ■

JET MANAGEMENT GROUP
CEO Explains Why Jet Management Group is Special Lija Wierieszczinskaja, Founder & CEO of Jet Management Geneva and San Marino, traces her company from its early days in 2015. “I look back and see the way the company has grown from a simple to a complex structure, with its culture and strong values. Did I have a clear idea deciding on a change? No, I had a clear vision of how I want my people to feel, what kind of environment I wanted.
?
“It took time to form an effective team that trusted my vision, and responded to my ideas, and then we extended this team spirit further to the customers. Only a happy and harmonised team can efficiently react to a need for change and achieve it together. Our transformation process was a true journey driven by a natural desire every time to become better through a continuous learning process. “I am taking this wonderful opportunity to reach out to as many people as possible to share our story, and remind everyone that profits come only with a happy client — so we must make sure that the client is in the right hands”.

It is a history of conscious transformation based on extended awareness of clients’ needs. Back in 2015, when it began, our customers became a focus of the business forming our values.
Our Customer does not make a number, our Customer makes priority We faced various challenges along the way, but the direction remained always certain, and we were always building on a path to reach our goal. Back in 2015 Jet Management Geneva’s office was created to serve a purpose — as an interface connecting corporate owners and operators.
coordinating communication streams to respect the ethics and culture of the clients and the third-party service providers. JMG’s passionate team of professionals continues to build our company structure based on strong values, such as ‘Serve our Client with Dignity’ and ‘Listen to the Client’. By 2018 our team counted a number of core competencies, while technical expertise made the range of the company’s services complete. We were absolutely confident starting Part NCC operations with a Falcon that was run by our Geneva office, embracing and meeting every challenge as the learning process continued. Our Jet Management Geneva office offers private operations to the owners looking for synergy from quality of service and freedom of choice. The clients benefit from a full-time, dedicated Swiss office operating their aircraft with their preferred worldwide registration.
There were clearly defined functions, e.g. to provide a 24/7 customer service desk to clients; to consolidate information about aircraft for the owners having two or more in their fleet; to facilitate day-to-day supervision of the operations; and to act as a ‘family office’ fulfilling client needs.
Once the company vision came together, growing naturally over time, it did not hesitate to put that vision in writing as a statement:
The team supervised a fleet of ten different jets — including Falcon 7/8/900/2000, and Gulfstream G450/550/650.
“Successful operations, driven by a customer service philosophy and a working environment which allows people to feel special and valued, encouraging personal motivation, developing a positive mind-set and an excellent attitude towards performance”.
Customer service was the main ethos of the company. The team mastered its skills in communication, satisfying the requirements of complex corporate client structures, addressing their issues correctly, and

“Newborn” PC-24s JMG as a Group was brought to life at the same time with the “Newborn” PC24 with a great idea to put together all experience gained by Jet Management Geneva over years and the new opportunities. In 2019 we extended our boundaries and decided on an ambitious plan to obtain a Jet Management San Marino AOC. We took on the new challenge and started a new chapter in our professional experience with a new aircraft… new in every possible way – size, range, concept, age. We had two “newborn” PC-24s taking us into a new adventure, making us learn how the right business partner can help to create strength instead of giving stress. Throughout the entire process of getting through the AOC approval, San Marino Aircraft Registry (SMAR) inspectors were absolutely clear about the high standards and requirements, giving a good warm-up before the start of operations. It was obvious — we had to “aim high”. That mantra motivated us perfectly in our approach to the new operations with these new aircraft. The PC-24 was a new aircraft being introduced to the market, making us remain on our tiptoes, attending to every technical aspect, special approvals in operations, pilot qualifications. Nothing was easy as for anything new starting for the first time. The operational environment added more spice to the challenge — because the nearest approved maintenance specialist/service was a few thousand kilometres away.

Fly Private & Save Time with Europe’s Largest Pilatus Fleet Flying by private aircraft has become an easy and accessible option over the years thanks to companies such as Jetfly, which offers fractional-ownership programmes tailored to each individual’s needs. This pioneer and European leader, headquartered in Luxembourg, claims to have become “the operator of choice for business and private clients alike. With 20 years of experience and 150,000+ flight hours, Jetfly not only possesses an impressive aviation network and industry know-how, but also the largest fleet of Pilatus PC-12 and PC-24 aircraft in the world.”

In addition to its renowned Jetfly service, the performance and versatility of the Pilatus PC-12 and PC-24 fleets allow co-owners to access 3000+ international airports and small airfields in Europe with unique capabilities to land on short grass runways or snow-covered airstrips. Thus traveling to destinations such as St. Tropez-La Môle, Courchevel, KitzbühelSt. Johann, Gstaad-Saanen or Venice-Lido has never been easier.
Unlike many other private aviation companies that focus on the traditional charter market, the Jetfly concept is unique. A Jetfly client acquires a share in the latest, fully equipped Swiss-made Pilatus aircraft based on their estimated flight volume per year.
If fractional ownership does not fit your needs, Jetfly offers alternative solutions through its partners Fly 7 and CaptainJet. Fly 7, a Swiss operator, is the European leader in Pilatus management and charter, whereas CaptainJet is a private jet-booking platform, which has access to the world’s fleet of 5,000+ registered jets.

AVIDYNE IMPRESSES WITH NEW GLASS COCKPIT FOR PILATUS PC-12/45 By Jorge Hernandez
Every so often a project comes around that truly takes your breath away. Most recently, it was the modernisation of a 2004 Pilatus PC-12/45 cockpit.
IFDs. When paired with Forward Looking Terrain Alerting (FLTA), a feature of the IFD which, by the way, is standard, one could argue that the IFD is serving as more than just an FMS/GPS/NAV/COM.
You should know the Pilatus PC-12 is one of my favorite airplanes. It offers operators the best of both worlds; best-in-class performance and great style. From the NGX to special-mission configurations flying over dangerous regions, I have seen this airplane perform the unimaginable and do it without a care.
The IFD also provides Multi-Function Display (MFD) functionality which is significantly enhanced when integrated wirelessly with the IFD100 App for iPad.
With that kind of mission versatility, why shouldn’t the avionics capabilities be on par with the aircraft itself? Why settle for anything less than superior if you are operating a Pilatus PC-12? When I saw the finished product for the first time, it was love at first sight. The modernisation included a complete Avidyne avionics suite that truly delivers, providing a feature-rich upgrade that is not just highly capable and stylish, but also makes the most of the aircraft’s performance capability — all in a single package.
First, you must lose the (irrelevant) weight. When you consider how much the avionics industry has changed over the past two decades, you will quickly notice that when it comes to modern day avionics, less is more. Avionic integration is the answer. Operators prefer highly sanitised panels with an efficient use of space. Let’s take a look at the Pilatus PC-12/45 project completed by Servicio Aereos Montre S.A. de C.V out of Monterrey, Mexico. Prior to the upgrade, this aircraft was basically factory standard. It was equipped with a KMA24H audio panel, KMD540 multi-function display, KLN90B GPS, KX165A NAV/COM, GNS XLS flight management system and dual panel-mounted GTX330D transponders. For VHF NAV, interact here, for FMS planning interact there, ‘IDENT 1234’, interact elsewhere. That is six pieces of factory-issued equipment a crew must master to maximise efficiency, not to mention a lot of weight.
Less is definitely more (and more capable). After project completion, the aircraft’s new and much-improved flight deck boasts dual IFDs (IFD550, IFD540) installation as the FMS/GPS/NAV/COM system, an AMX240 audio panel, and dual AXP322 ADS-B Out remote-mount transponders. All situational awareness equipment on the aircraft — such as the Storm Scope, Radar, and the Traffic Advisory System (TAS) — were integrated into the dual IFD5Series. The aircraft flew away not only with big weight savings and a sleeker panel, but with all safety enhancing information accessible on the dual
www.avidyne.com 10
The crew now has transponder control, radar control, and display with map overlay, Storm Scope display, traffic display, FMS planning, WAAS GPS navigation, VHF communication, VHF navigation, Geo-Referenced Jeppesen Chart Display, and terrain-alerting, all in one system, the IFD 5-Series flight management system. This, in my opinion, makes the Avidyne 5-Series IFD the logical fit for the ever so capable and elegant PC-12/45.
Additional Possibilities with Big Benefits. The Avidyne IFD5-Series was designed as a slide-in-replacement for GNS530 GPS navigators. With some Pilatus PC-12/45 aircraft having old GNS navigators currently installed, this is a simple but necessary upgrade. The IFD slides into the same tray and interfaces with the same connectors currently used by the GNS530. To take complete advantage of the all the features the IFD has to offer (not currently available on the now obsolete GNS), the installer will need to add some additional wiring and interfaces. In some cases, the only action required is replacing the GPS antenna for a WAAS TSO-C190 compliant antenna to allow the new FMS to take advantage of navigation with Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) GPS accuracy (EGNOS rather than WAAS in Europe) and adding features such as Localiser Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV) GPS approaches. The benefits do not end at ease-of-installation, weight reduction, consolidation, and cost savings. With the addition of the IFD Series, Pilatus operators can get the most of their existing avionics and give their flying experience an additional enhancement with wireless integration of the IFD100 Application and full bidirectional Jeppesen ForeFlight connectivity. Just imagine having your primary source of navigation and situational awareness on a 12-inch iPad screen with 100 percent interactivity and, best of all, for no additional cost. It’s true. I believe the Avidyne avionics suite is going to find its way into more Pilatus PC-12/45 cockpits as it is simply the best fit for this platform. In my opinion, it resonates with the performance and elegance of the PC-12/45 on all fronts. The author is Director of International & Military Sales at Avidyne.
Avidyne Retrofit Upgrade : IFD550, IFD540 and the AMX240 Audio Panel.
MODERN UPGRADE MADE SIMPLE Avidyne’s modern flight deck upgrade sets a new standard in Pilatus PC-12 navigation systems. Designed with real world flying conditions in mind, the IFD5-Series flight management system incorporates a feature-rich, affordable solution that will dramatically increase flight deck capabilities and greatly reduce installation time. The Avidyne IFD 5-Series is a WAAS GPS Approach certified navigation system that integrates the latest in navigation technology.

And more than anything 88K points to the important cultural characteristics it has nurtured to best serve its discerning clients.
sellers are at a much earlier stage in the selling process and the decision is not fully mature. One may face an owner that is just testing the market. Sometimes, even after long negotiations, when everything finally lines up, you may receive an unpleasant call from the seller saying they are getting cold feet. This is why it is important to understand the owner’s motivations. Many times, price is not the only argument to raise the seller’s interest. Asking the right questions, detecting conflicts of interest and understanding what is at stake for the other party are important to start a negotiation without wasting time.
Owning a private aircraft is certainly a privilege in current times. It offers liberty, flexibility and the possibility to travel safely. Planning ahead has become challenging; yet attending that negotiation in person or escaping for the weekend remains of high priority for those who can.
airplane. Buying an aircraft now may be more profitable for buyers and their businesses than it was before, despite small market fluctuations. However, buyers need to understand that it is more challenging to navigate the acquisition process than it used to be.
While the pre-owned European market has been rather slow and uncertain in 2020, demand increased strongly early this year, especially in the turboprop and light jet segments — and the Pilatus PC-12 was no exception.
Long-Lasting Investment
We see more and more first-time buyers looking for safe, affordable and sustainable aircraft for short-range travel within Europe. Fortunately, the Pilatus PC-12 ticks all the boxes, and the market speaks for itself. PC-12 NGs (new generation) are currently trading higher than they were 12 months ago.
The Question is: Is Now the Right Time to Buy? “Yes, I may consider selling, but this is my price”. We often hear that response while contacting owners to find off-market PC-12s for our acquisition clients who could not find what they were looking for on the open market due to the lack of inventory. It is accurate to say that buyers may pay more today for the same aircraft than they would have spent last summer. However, the difference is negligible when put in contrast with the high volatility of the currencies, the operational cost, and the undeniable freedom of owning a private
The PC-12 is a niche product and a great example of a stable investment. Put into perspective, the current market “high” will be insignificant over a five-year period. The high demand is the exact reason why buyers should consider purchasing one; the depreciation will remain moderate. We believe that the single-engine concerns some buyers may have had are slowly disappearing and are being cancelled out by economy, sustainability and image in a world where electric aircraft are not yet fully mature. Competitors entering the singleengine turboprop market are a great proof that this segment has excellent perspectives.
Then, presenting a well-considered offer, backed by reliable market intelligence and a structured transaction plan, will help you to close the deal. Structure and timing are key to a successful execution. The famous rule says: “Time Kills Deals”. This couldn’t be more true today.
About 88K 88K is a growing Swiss brokerage company that specialises in the sale and acquisition of turboprops and business jets. We are a team of dynamic and dedicated aviation enthusiasts with strong technical, transactional, digital marketing and sales experience. We commit to providing consistent, high-quality services to our clients in order to achieve reliable performance. We address “unpleasant truths” and expose “comforting lies” for what they are. Our relationships with partners and clients are based on trust and high standards of ethics. We favour long-term relationships and high reputation over single, quick deals.
Overcoming Challenges in the Acquisition Process Even though there might be obstacles due to travel restrictions, buying pre-owned remains a valid option and many times a very good one. Challenges can mean opportunities. If you are in the market for a Pilatus PC-12, the chances are that you are looking at off-market options too. However, be aware that off-market aircraft are sometimes more difficult to purchase than onmarket opportunities. Except for some cases where the sellers want to remain discrete, we believe the reason is simply because off-market

Insight: Pilatus Aircraft Market Are you looking to buy or sell a pre-owned Pilatus Turboprop or Light Jet? Matt Harris asks Sacha Demelo, Scott Ducker, and Pascal Wyss for their insights on how these aircraft are performing in their regions… With available turboprop inventory on the pre-owned aircraft market receding to 6.3% of the active fleet at the end of February (per Asset Insight data), there looks to be a tight supply for buyers in the market for a Pilatus PC-12 single-engine turboprop.
into aircraft ownership. Many of the enquiries we receive are from prospects who are currently chartering but have now decided they want a solution which provides them with the operational flexibility offered by aircraft ownership.”
Speaking of the North American marketplace, Scott Ducker, part of the aircraft sales team at Epps Aviation specialising in Pilatus aircraft, notes that all inventories of pre-owned business aircraft have been reduced as a result of the wave of transactions that happened at the end of 2020.
Overall, “there are very few pre-owned Pilatus PC-12s to pick from now,” Ducker says, “and their values have gone up a little due to the firm demand and low supply.”
“I think many of those transactions were due to the spike in interest in private travel, as opposed to travelling aboard the scheduled airlines,” he explains. “Many buyers also wanted to take advantage of the existing tax benefits in the US, before a suspected change by the new Biden Administration.” Specifically, demand for Pilatus PC-12 for sale has strengthened since mid-2020 (the height of the COVID pandemic), says Pascal Wyss of the Pilatus Centre Southern Africa. “The interest both in new and pre-owned Pilatus PC12s is consistent, and we expect this to continue with the pricing on pre-owned models firming up as demand seemingly matches current pre-owned supply,” Wyss says. “The active pre-owned PC-12 inventory has more than halved over the past few months.”
The Pilatus Turboprop Market Though the supply is clearly tight across the board, the PC-12 has been popular in the Business Aviation market for just over 25 years, during which time there have been some upgrades made. The original Pilatus PC-12 entered service at the end of 1994. Later, the PC-12/45 and PC-12/47 were introduced. Overall, according to JETNET, Pilatus built 790 units of the PC-12/45 and PC-12/47 (combined) before introducing the PC-12 NG. Arriving on the market in 2008, the Pilatus PC-12 NG featured modified winglets, a more powerful Pratt & Whitney PT6A-67P engine (which enabled better climb performance and higher maximum cruise speed), and an upgraded flight deck based on Honeywell’s Primus Apex suite. The PC-12 NG proved even more successful than the original, and 942 units were produced before it, too, was upgraded.
Enter the NGX
That fact is also attested to by Sacha Demelo, Sales Director at UK-based Oriens Aviation, which is an authorised dealer of Pilatus aircraft for the British Isles. “Pre-owned demand has been strong over the last six months with the PC-12 NG inventory reducing by 50%, per latest figures from JETNET,” Demelo shares.
Pilatus had already received certification when it announced the Pilatus PC-12 NGX in October 2019, and this time the aircraft incorporated the PT6E-67XP engine (with a 20% longer TBO, and FADEC), increased speed, updated Honeywell avionics, and improved cabin comfort.
“Much of the demand is attributed either to buyers moving up from smaller piston aircraft or new entrants
“The low inventory has helped steer buyers towards stepping up into the new PC-12 NGX, which is an

amazing continuation in the product line,” Ducker notes. “All Pilatus Dealers in the US (six companies covering the 50 states) have done well, with strong NGX demand and order backlogs.” But, beyond the NGX, is there a particular sweet spot in the PC-12 market currently? The answer seems to depend on the region. From his vantage-point in the UK, Demelo says it’s the PC-12 NGs delivered between 2012 and 2016 forming the sweet spot with operators, “based on the introduction of Synthetic Vision in 2012, electric landing gear and connected flight deck in 2014, and the five-blade Hartzell propeller in 2016. “All these upgrades helped reduce maintenance costs, increase safety, and improve the aircraft’s performance,” he explains. Ducker also leans towards the PC-12 NG for the North American market, though he adds “used PC12s range from $1.5m to $5.5m (new), so any interested buyer should purchase what meets their need and their budget.” “In our local African market, most interest is currently in older PC-12 legacy models (1998-2006) in the sub$2m mark, as well as early PC-12 NG examples (2008-2011),” Wyss explains. “These come in the $2.6m-$3m price range, depending on the equipment and hours on the airframe and engine.”
Signs of a Pre-Owned Pilatus Light Jet Market? Although traditionally a single-engine turboprop manufacturer, Pilatus entered the Light Jet market when its Pilatus PC-24 started delivering in 2018. Unique, in that it can operate from rough, unimproved runways, Pilatus refers to the aircraft as a ‘Super Versatile Jet’. It has taken less than three years for Pilatus to deliver

“In quite a few instances, asking prices on pre-owned PC-24s have exceeded the retail price paid by customers...” “As with any new aircraft program these numbers will most likely fluctuate as more aircraft are delivered and the aircraft starts to develop a niche in the market.”
Pricing Trends in 2021? Asked to predict pricing trends in the pre-owned Pilatus aircraft market for 2021, Demelo says that historically, the PC-12 has stood out among its competition for retaining its market value over time. Values in the range of 75% and 80% of their original selling prices 10 years after factory delivery are not uncommon.
its first 100 units, though demand is such that it has been difficult for a pre-owned market to build – certainly with respect to aircraft coming to the open market. “With the Pilatus order book full into early 2022, the demand for the PC-24 remains high,” notes Wyss. “The immediate demand is driving pre-owned sales, and we’ve seen a few transactions taking place before an aircraft reaches the open market. “In quite a few instances, asking prices on preowned PC-24s have exceeded the retail price paid by customers,” he reveals. “According to JETNET, only 6% of the PC-24 fleet is currently on the market,” Demelo says.
“Due to the high demand for the aircraft, and the short supply on the pre-owned market, the aircraft continues to hold its value during these challenging times,” he notes, adding that Oriens recently sold a pre-owned early model PC-12 NG for around 10% more than what it was originally bought for.” “From experience on recent transactions, selling prices on pre-owned aircraft have been in the region of the retail/wholesale median, and retail,” Wyss notes. “We expect this to continue as demand for both the PC-12 and PC-24 continues,” he projects. Ducker is also confident that pre-owned values on all PC-12s should stay as strong as they always have, arguing that this is because Pilatus does not discount its new product, so used values tend to hold up better, too. “It’s a sales philosophy of selling on value versus price,” he concludes.

Rob Watson, Director – Rolls-Royce Electrical, noted: “Electrification will help us deliver our ambition to enable the markets in which we operate achieve net zero carbon by 2050. “This collaboration strengthens our existing relationships with Tecnam and Widerøe as we look to explore what is needed to deliver an all-electric passenger aircraft for the commuter market. “It also demonstrates Rolls-Royce’s ambitions to be the leading supplier of allelectric and hybrid electric propulsion and power systems across multiple aviation markets.” The programme will look to cover all elements of developing and delivering an all-electric passenger aircraft that could be used in the Norwegian market from 2026. Due to its topography, Norway makes extensive use of aviation for regional connectivity and has an ambition for all domestic flights to be zero emissions by 2040. Rolls-Royce will bring its expertise in propulsion and power systems, Tecnam will provide aircraft design, manufacturing and certification capabilities. Widerøe’s mission will be to ensure that all competence and requirements of an airline operator are in place for entry into service in 2026.

Tecnam’s Chief of Project R&D and Product Development, Fabio Russo, said: “It is incredible to see the interest around the P-Volt, not only coming from regional airlines, but also from smart mobilitybased companies. This last year has demonstrated the importance of promoting capillary connections between small communities, while reducing the congestion of the main hubs. “The P-Volt, like the P2012 Traveller today, will perfectly fit the scope of this programme. We are honoured and pleased to see the level of enthusiasm Widerøe and our partner Rolls-Royce are dedicating to this project.”
Electric Recovery Before the pandemic, Widerøe offered around 400 flights per day using a network of 44 airports, where 74 percent of the flights have distances less than 275 km (150 nautical miles). With the shortest flight durations lasting between seven and fifteen minutes, the companies believe developing all-electric aircraft makes sense and “will enable people to be connected in a sustainable way and fulfill Wideroe’s ambition to make its first all-electric flight by 2026.” The all-electric P-Volt aircraft, which is based on the 11-seat Tecnam P2012 Traveller aircraft, is well-suited to short take-off and landing as well as for routes along the north and the west coasts of Norway. Rolls-Royce and Widerøe announced their joint research programme in 2019. The aim was to evaluate and develop electrical aircraft concepts that would fulfil the Norwegian ambition of having the first electrified aircraft in ordinary domestic scheduled flights by 2030, and 80 percent emission reduction in domestic flights by 2040. Rolls-Royce also has an existing strategic partnership with Tecnam to develop the modified Tecnam P2010 aircraft with the H3PS1 propulsion system, the first parallel hybrid-electric propulsion system for General Aviation — started together with engine maker Rotax in May 2018. AEROSENSE MAY21.qxp_TURBINE NEWS AUG 16 09/04/2021 15:31 Page 1
Aircraft Insecticide Now Legally for Sale in the EU Aero-Sense, a Belgium-based manufacturer of aviation chemicals, collaborated closely with Honeywell’s Industrial Aerosols department to develop a safe and environmentally friendly aircraft insecticide. This AeroSense product is now the first aerosolised aircraft insecticide worldwide to be approved for sale and use in all 27 Members States of the European Union, including Iceland, Norway and Switzerland.
100% Safety Tested Aircraft insecticides are products that are used on board of aircraft to prevent the spread of vector-borne diseases (such as malaria, zika, dengue, etc.) via air travel. The specific methods and products to be used for aircraft disinfection are found in World Health Organisation (WHO) recommendations, as well as in IATA and ICAO guidelines. All Aero-Sense products are formulated according to these recommendations, but the Aero-Sense product “Aircraft Insecticide ASD” is the first to also acquire a Union Authorisation under the European Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR). The BPR examines whether a biocide, such as an insecticide, is harmless to humans and the environment. For example, according to the BPR, no carcinogenic, endocrine-disrupting or toxic substances may be present in the product. “Only a product that is 100% tested to conformity to these safety requirements passes this strict evaluation process,”says Jochen Rosseel, COO at Aero-Sense. “Our aircraft insecticide ASD doesn’t just protect the health and safety of passengers and crew, but it also gains their trust.” A striking and underlying conclusion is that there are currently many airlines who use a non-regulated insecticide in their European flights.
99.9% Lower Emissions Using Honeywell’s non-flammable Solstice propellant makes the product the greenest option on the market, according to Aero-Sense. “Under the European Regulation on the use of fluorinated greenhouse gases,
technical aerosols are required to have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of less than 150. Previous generation aircraft insecticides usually have a GWP of more than 1,300 as they contain harmful HFCs. The switch to the new propellant reduces the GWP of the Aero-Sense Insecticide to less than 1, far exceeding the EU requirements.”
“Unfortunately, the environmental aspect is still often overlooked by airlines, especially in the economically tough times we are experiencing now”, continued Jochen Rosseel. “However, it would be very useful to think about this aspect as it allows airlines to reduce the ecological footprint of each flight and achieve their emission targets.”
Convenient & Future-Proof “We strongly believe this is the way forward”, Rosseel explains. “It’s not only future proof in terms of emission requirements. Our Aircraft Insecticide ASD holds an approval for sale and use in the entire European Union, including Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Making it a legal onestop-shop solution for any [operator] flying in and out of the EU.” National environmental standards are indeed getting stricter. In 2019, the EU and 108 other countries worldwide signed the Kigali amendment to the Montreal Protocol. This is an international and legally binding agreement to reduce the production and consumption of harmful HFC gases.

Royal Aero Club 3Rs Announces Schedule for
The 2021 British Air Racing Championship
PHOTO © CHRIS HALL
Each weekend has two races with trophies and points awarded for each. The end of season accumulation of points defines the British Air Racing Champion. Although the racing is based in the UK, the RAeC welcomes entrants from all other countries. It has one entrant already for this year from Spain and says it has had participants from France, Germany, Spain and Italy in recent years. As this is a ‘handicap air race’, any aircraft that can fly at least 100mph / 87 Knots is eligible to take part. Certified, LAA non-certified, and home-built experimental aircraft are accepted. Lycoming, Continental, Rotax, and all other engines are included. The slower planes take off first and the rest in speed order. The Club says it is eager to welcome new pilots this season, adding that it is happy to meet any pilot interested in using their licence to have the greatest time ever. You only need a basic PPL with a minimum 100hrs PIC to take part and learn fantastic new skills. Each race is associated with a historic trophy. The most prestigious are The King’s Cup, which has been raced for since 1922; and the Schneider Trophy, which was first raced for in 1913. “It could be your name on these historic trophies this year!” 2019 CHAMPIONS JONATHAN WILLIS AND GURCHARAN BHODAY

2021 is the 90th anniversary of the British team winning the Schneider Trophy outright during the 1931 race. To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the outright win by the British team, this year’s Schneider Trophy will be raced for over the same course as the original, over the Solent and the Isle of Wight, with aircraft launching from Sandown Airfield. “We recommend getting your team entry forms in as soon as possible to participate.” All information about the races and how to take part is on our web site www.britishairracing.org. Or email info@royalaeroclubrrra.co.uk for further information. The RAeC 3R's is also recruiting volunteers to help with the race day organisation and logistics. “Do get in touch if you would like to join the friendliest bunch of aviation enthusiasts,” it says. ■

CHECK YOUR INSURANCE ! Give us plenty of time to get you a Better Insurance Quote According to Chris Varley, Chairman of Export & General (E&G) Insurance, businesses are rarely proactive in looking early for better insurance premiums, which can contribute significantly to wider cost-cutting measures. “Whether you need insurance for your aircraft, hangar-keeper’s liability insurance, professional indemnity insurance, speaking to us early, perhaps a couple of months before the renewal date, can mean significant savings,” says Varley, who adds “We’re happy to remind you so feel free to let us know your current renewal dates.”
ABOUT E&G AVIATION INSURANCE
E&G Aviation Insurance is a leading aviation insurance broker specialising in insurance liability business cover including professional indemnity; cover for buildings including hangars and workshops; and for aircraft whether operating commercially, privately, or for training. It is a trading name of Export & General Insurance Services Limited (E&G), Beverley Meads Recreation Ground, Barham Road, Copse Hill, Wimbledon, SW20 0ET UK. For further information please contact
Chris Varley, Director, Export & General Insurance Services Ltd T: +44 (0)20 8255 0617 M: +44 (0) 7973 509961 E: chris.varley@exportandgeneral.co.uk
A Broker’s View: Increasing Insurance Premiums According to Export & General (E&G) Aviation Insurance the increase in premiums over the past year that many aircraft owners have experienced is down to market factors. E&G chairman Chris Varley, a keen PPL holder with a first degree in aeronautics (before his insurance days), said “Aviation has a restricted pool of insurers at the moment which has pushed prices up, so it is more important than ever to allow more time for a broker like us [E&G] to find you a competitive price for your insurance or renewal, and contact us several weeks or months before your renewal date.” Reflecting on COVID-19 and the various shutdowns Varley notes: “This past year for General Aviation has been terrible. Even though some insurers have given a concession for the pandemic grounding aircraft, it’s not been a significant enough return of premium to take into account price rises they’ve introduced.”
www.exportandgeneral.co.uk
Varley says that aircraft owners have been able to insure their aircraft for “ground risks only” to get a lower premium, and this is still the case. “Most such insurance still allows for up to five hours of maintenance flights, or repositioning — it doesn’t allow for normal flying activities but can halve the price of your renewal until you’re ready to start flying again.”

Adversary Air Training – The Top Guns of Aerial Work Aviation Have you ever heard of commercial Adversary Air Training? And do you know what this specialised Aerial Work aviation sector does? Patrick Ryan “Zoom Climbs” to the answer and highlights many interesting aspects of this unique “Top Gun” aviation business sector. Introduction
As with any industry, there is always a group of individuals or teams considered the “Top Guns”, be it in importance, influence, or skill. In Aerial Work aviation, it could be said that the individuals and aviation companies that provide defence forces around the world with mockup enemy training opportunities are genuinely the Top Guns. To earn this distinction, these individuals and companies must have the “Right Stuff” to go “Nose-toNose” with their customers in an aggressive manner with the right aircraft, kit, and aircrew. With military services looking to alleviate shortages of aircrew and publicly admitting shortages in readiness, military organisations have begun to contract out some kinds of pilot training — specifically the live aerial combat simulation of enemy aircraft to the private Aerial Work sector. So, what is this “Top Gun” sector of Aerial Work aviation? Like the “Kill Chain” concept used in the aerial combat community to define the primary elements of adversary engagements (Find, Fix, Track, Target, Engage, and Access), the process could also define the elements of the commercial Aerial Work sector that provides Adversary Air Training support.
Find – Basis & History
To start with, the basic concept or purpose of Adversary Air from both a military and commercial service provider perspective is to give military personnel a representative enemy force to oppose. Adversary or Aggressor aircraft
34 AERIAL WORK EUROPE MAY 2021
and aircrew use enemy tactics, techniques, and procedures to give a realistic air combat simulation (instead of training against one’s squadron mates with similar mindsets). Since it is unrealistic to use actual enemy aircraft and equipment, surrogate aircraft must emulate potential adversaries. This training is valuable in that military personnel are not as aware of their opponent’s performance capabilities and characteristics and, therefore, must rely on fundamental basic fighting principles and evaluation/decision-making skills to react to an advantageous position versus their opponent. In this type of training, one type of fighter’s advantages may differ significantly from the advantages of the other. Hence, service personnel learn to refine their skills to make use of their opponent’s weaknesses. History The concept of emulating potential adversaries in air combat started in World War II and has expanded since. During World War II, both Allied and Axis countries, with captured enemy aircraft (e.g., P-51s, Supermarine Spitfires, ME-109s, Heinkel He-111s, Mitsubishi A6M "Zeros," etc.), were used for familiarisation as well as dissimilar combat training for frontline ground personnel, crews, and squadrons. After World War II and throughout the Cold War, the concept of utilising adversary or aggressor capabilities (captured or secretly purchased adversary aircraft, e.g., MiG 17s, MiG 21, etc.) and establishing specialised units
(e.g., the U.S. Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor programme, “TOPGUN”, the Israeli Air Force’s 115 Aggressor Squadron, etc.) increased. Today, most countries have some sort of military Dissimilar Air Combat Training (DACT) programme, but many cannot afford to supply their internal aggressor training. The cost to fly and maintain aircraft is significant, as is the wear and tear on the aircraft. Additional flight hours for training cause a drain on the life of any type of jet— and keeping hours off active wartime fleet airframes is critical to the jets being available in the event of an international conflict. To ensure pilots are trained while cutting down on cost, militaries worldwide have increasingly emphasised the use of commercial/contracted adversary services.
Fix – Services and Missions
So, what do commercial Adversary Air companies do to challenge their clients? The obvious answer is utilising similar type privately owned fighter jets to conduct aerial combat with military students and cadre to stress and test their skills. However, there is more to the menu board of services and missions these firms provide, which also stress and test beyond the fighter pilot cockpit as they also train and prepare other warfighters. Some adversary missions do not require aerial combat but, as an alternative, involve flying relatively straightforward profiles to assess radars, missiles, and aircraft target acquisition and tracking abilities. Here is a sample of the Adversary Air’s menu board of

services and missions that prepare the service personnel of many militaries, be it airmen, soldiers, seamen, or marines: Air-To-Air • Fighter Intercepts Opposition Simulation & Training • Basic Fighter Manoeuvres (BFM) Opposition Simulation & Training • Advanced Electronic Attack Opposition Simulation & Training • Offensive and Defensive Counter-Air Tactics Training • Large Force and Self-Escort Strike Opposition Simulation • Fighter air-to-air gunnery practice Air-To-Ground • Close Air Support (CAS) Simulation & Training • Deep Air Strike (DAS) Opposition Simulation & Training • Subsonic and Supersonic Air-to-Surface Missile Simulations • Advanced Electronic Attack (E.A.) Track & Target – Planes and Tools
To effectively stress and test their clients, the commercial Adversary Air sector must be tooled and equipped to make this happen. To truly meet their customers’ requirements, they must bring to the fight aircraft and systems that represent those of potential adversaries. Besides emulating the looks (camouflage paint schemes etc.) and the right flight characteristics of an adversary, the job also requires commercial Adversary Air firms to imitate adversaries in the electromagnetic spectrum, i.e., radar signature, decoys, and even jamming the electronic systems of their clients. In today’s high-tech world of defence systems and operations, commercial enterprises need to bring a mix of unique aircraft and specialised systems that you’ll not find at your local aerodrome. The following is a general view of what they deliver: Aircraft Beginning with the type of aircraft these firms privately obtain, maintain, and employ, the backbone is former combat fighter aircraft followed by an assortment of other unique commercial platforms. In the fighter jet arena, these jets are primarily 3rd (1950 to 1980) and 4th (1980 to 1990) generation platforms upgraded and sustained as if they were on active military duty. Here are some of the jets that are used by some of the leading commercial Adversary Air companies today: • 3rd Generation o Hawker, MK-58 Hawker Hunters o Dassault Aviation, Mirage F-1s o Mikoyan-Gurevich, MiG-21s o Atlas Aircraft Corporation, Atlas Cheetah C/D o Aero Vodochody, Aero L-159E ALCA o Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), F-21 Kfirs • 4th Generation o General Dynamics, F-16 Fighting Falcon o Mikoyan-Gurevich, MiG-29
PHOTO © COURTESY OF PILATUS
Following fighter jets, some firms operate light business jets, fixed-wing turboprop utility aircraft, and militarygrade helicopters for both opposition force engagements and specialised ground training, target towing, and electronic warfare scenarios. A sample of these types of aircraft currently used are: • Learjet (now Bombardier), Learjet Series (primarily 25 – 40 series) • Cessna (now Textron), Citations I & II • Pilatus, PC-6 Porter • Mil, Mi-24 Hinds, Mi-8 Hips, Mi-2 Hoplites (Helicopters) • Antonov, An-2 Colts. Specialised Systems Going beyond aircraft, firms also employ specialised systems on-board and off-board that enhance or emulate threats. Additionally, they utilise similar systems and capabilities, which allows them to integrate with client forces when required, e.g., JTAC training and Research & Development projects. When it comes to these specialised systems, they can range from live ordnance, to decoys, to electronic jamming systems. Here is a shortlist of such hardware & software: • Night Vision Systems • Electro-Optical/Infrared Cameras • Towed Sea-Skimming Cruise Missile Decoys • Towed Electronic Countermeasures Decoys
Engage – Top Guns
Outside of flying machines and hardware, the Aerial Work aviation professional aircrew and firms that provide such a unique but essential service have an incredibly different business model. In many ways, a very “One-Off” skill-set that is not traditional civil/commercial flying, i.e., a bit of both military and business aviation combined. Aircrew Concerning aircrew, the core of the aircrew members are pilots. Many adversary air company pilots are a combination of experienced tactical jet or multi-mission platform pilots who are either retired or serving parttime in a reserve component. Many of these pilots’ backgrounds include being graduates of a special aerial tactics school (U.S. Navy TOPGUN etc.), performed on a demonstration team (Red Arrows, Thunderbirds), and have qualified as Forward Air Controller - Airborne (FAC-A) instructors. Additionally, they have served as senior instructors, commanders, and commanding officers of operational squadrons, groups, and wings while serving in uniform. Companies Besides the highly experienced and dedicated aircrew that brings the fight to the clients, the firms that make it their business to provide this type of military-looking service operate like any civilian air operator. However, most of these companies are invested and focused solely on this business model vs. an additional service to their company portfolio (i.e., air charter, medivac, etc.). If you look under the cowling of these firms you’ll find a
professional Maintenance Department with fully qualified A&P and I.A. technicians and inspectors, who on average keep the mission-readiness of the fleet at 90 percent. Rolling to the front office, you’ll see a common theme among the company’s leadership, i.e., they're also tactical fighter pilots with the same background as their aircrew. However, many of them have graduated from leading business management schools and bring experience from other industry sectors. Some of the leading Adversary Air companies that are active in supporting many militaries today are: • Tactical Air Support (TacAir) • Draken International • Airborne Tactical Advantage Company (ATAC) • Top Aces (formerly Discovery Air Defense) • Air USA • and many more…
Assess – Summary
As with the final stage of an Air-to-Air aerial combat engagement, observing what happened and what to do better the next time is key for future success and staying alive. Aerial Work aviation and the Adversary Air sector are no different in their specialised business approach. Because the primary job or mission of Adversary Air is to provide the best emulation of an opposition force for training, they accomplish this by operating similar aircraft and systems in all operational domains (air, land, and sea). At the same time, they have become critical in supporting the research and development of new defence capabilities and tactics because of their vast in-house aircrew expertise, capabilities, and flexibility. When it comes to the future, you’ll see these firms expand their fleets with fifth-generation fighters and leading-edge electronic/cyber offensive and defensive systems to match current developing threats around the globe. Additionally, on the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology front, these firms will expand their manned aircraft fleets with UAVs. Because of UAVs’ growing employment and threat, there is a growing need to emulate ever-developing UAV capabilities and tactics with actual UAVs, or by simulation by manned aircraft, to ensure their clients are mission ready to go against unmanned opponents. Finally, with military services looking to give their pilots the “Top Gun” opportunity to fly against a diversity of aircraft types and pilots without the overhead and expense required to maintain a fleet of planes and instructors not otherwise in inventory, outsourcing to private companies in the Aerial Work aviation sector has become a viable and practical answer. So, next time you watch the movie Top Gun (probably for the 20th time), remember the training opposition force today is probably not Maverick’s commanding officers but a highly skilled civilian fighter pilots in well-equipped and capable private Adversary Air Training aircraft.

First DA62 SurveyStar Delivered to Launch Customer, GeoFly Just six months after signing the contract, the first DA62 SurveyStar has been handed over to a customer — German operator GeoFly.
Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, system integration went flawlessly, according to Diamond. “Considering that it is the first customer aircraft and that it involved numerous parties from various countries, it cannot be taken as a given — but once again it demonstrates the ability of Diamond’s Special Mission Aircraft Division to act as a single point of contact towards the customer in order to provide a ready-to-fly turnkey solution.” The initial configuration features a multi-sensor setup for simultaneous data acquisition. The Universal Nose mount will carry an airborne LiDAR system from Riegl, while the 20-inch hatch will be equipped with the latest Large Format Camera System from Vexcel Imaging, in combination with Somag’s GSM4000 gyro-stabilised mount, and an IGI Flight Management System. This configuration allows for a total endurance of seven hours including a two-person crew. The design allows for quick configuration changes, for example to replace the Large Format Camera in the hatch with the LiDAR from the Universal Nose. GeoFly is an aerial survey company located in Magdeburg, Germany. During more than ten years in the market, the company has developed broad experience in collecting and processing many types of spatial data by using different technical platforms and new technology standards. The focus is on high quality standards and efficiency. Aicke Damrau, Managing Director of GeoFly, commented: “The purchase of the new DA62 SurveyStar was a very special step for us. The DA62 is very versatile. This is due (on the one hand) to the wide range of speeds at which we can operate
www.diamondaircraft.com
36 AERIAL WORK EUROPE MAY 2021
the aircraft, and on the other hand to the possibility of refuelling the aircraft with jet fuel. The low consumption of the DA62 of approximately 50 litres-per-hour is another important point when we consider efficiency.” Markus Fischer, Director of Diamond’s Special Mission Aircraft Division, said: “There is no doubt that even the cleverest concept needs someone who is convinced and committed to demonstrate the proof of operational concept. Therefore, we are proud to have established a solid long-term cooperation with GeoFly, to receive first-hand feedback from a professional aerial survey operator [while also developing] the DA62 SurveyStar to be an even better airborne solution. We are looking forward very much to seeing how the aircraft behaves in real competition.” The handover of the first DA62 SurveyStar marks “a big milestone” for Diamond Aircraft’s Special Mission Aircraft Division, said Mario Spiegel, Sales Manager Europe and North America. “It brings all the efforts put into the development, certification as well as integration to an end, but at the same time also starts a new era, with the most modern and efficient aerial survey aircraft being introduced to the market. He added that the newSurveyStar had attracted a lot of interest and suggested that “other companies may have to follow GeoFly in order to remain competitive.” To find out more about the DA62 SurveyStar, the official roll-out event is available via the Diamond website, or on the company’s Youtube channel.

AeroLEDs Releases ‘Industry First’ Dual-Function LED Landing & Taxi Light The engineers at AeroLEDs have been working hard on a new addition to the highly sought-after SunSpot LED Landing and Taxi lighting product line. The company says its new state-ofthe-art design promises to be “a game changer for pilots of virtually any aircraft, providing a tailored lighting experience when operating both at night, during the day, and in conditions of reduced visibility.” First of its kind: The new SunSpot Equinox is a True Dual-Function LED Landing AND Taxi light. The Equinox is the perfect solution for single light applications or for the pilot who can’t decide on whether to install a landing or a taxi light, says AeroLEDs. “In landing mode, the Equinox will output a 20° x 20° bright white beam for high-speed take-offs and landings. This will greatly improve visibility both on the ground and in
44 HELICOPTER BUYER EUROPE MAY 2021
the air from up to 30 miles away. While in taxi mode, the light produces a wider 20° x 50° beam spread that outputs a solid and evenly distributed light pattern for unmatched illumination of the runway/taxiway without impairing the vision of other pilots. The SunSpot Equinox will still feature the same state-of-the art design and construction that has been the AeroLEDs hallmark for more than 15 years — Long Life, High Efficiency, Shock and Vibration Resistant, Low Weight, Low Drag. The first release in this series will fit PAR 36 configurations and will be a 28-volt, 100 watt dual-function LED. It will output 11,000 lumens and 150,000 candela and come standard with integrated pulse (Wig-Wag), providing optimum visibility during extreme operating conditions and negating the
need and extra weight of external pulse light boxes. As with all SunSpot Series LEDs, this light can be left on in all phases of flight as it draws 40 percent less power, significantly reducing the electrical load on the airplane’s battery and alternator system. It also maintains its full light output even at low engine RPMs, which is critical in the landing configuration. SunSpot Equinox will be simple drop-in replacement for both Par36 and Par46 applications and will be available for both 12V and 24V systems, says AeroLED. It is rated for 30,000+ hr MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) comes with a five-year warranty.

ACS AVIATION Becomes Textron Authorised Service Facility ACS Aviation has been named as a new Textron Aviation Authorised Service Facility, covering Cessna and Beechcraft piston aircraft. With more than 14 years of experience maintaining Cessna and Beechcraft piston aircraft from its Perth Airport base in Scotland, the authorisation “is a testament to the skillfulness and excellent customer support that ACS Aviation provides to aircraft operators,” the company said. ACS Aviation employs more than 40 people, offering maintenance and airworthiness management for aircraft operators with comprehensive scheduled maintenance services, avionic upgrades, aircraft modifications, spare parts supply, and ‘Aircraft on Ground’ (AOG) support. “We are pleased to be named as an Authorised Service Facility by Textron Aviation for its Cessna and Beechcraft piston products,” commented Craig McDonald, Group Technical Director of ACS Aviation. “Our company has a long history of working on the Textron Aviation range of products, during which time we have developed a very strong reputation for delivering reliable aircraft maintenance services in the United Kingdom. “Our investments in growing our service capabilities, coupled with our team’s professionalism and knowledge of the Cessna and Beechcraft pistons, proves to be a valuable addition to our customers.” Despite the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, ACS Aviation is currently recruiting aircraft maintenance personnel and is set to expand its flight training capabilities by adding additional aircraft to its fleet in 2021. In addition, ACS Aviation is currently exploring options with several airports throughout the U.K. to expand aviation operations. ACS Aviation was established in 2007. It operates Scotland’s leading commercial flight training school, aircraft maintenance facility, and its base, Perth Airport. The company says it offers “a range of aviation services including world-class flight training and aircraft maintenance services.” Being responsible also for airfield operations at Perth Airport, ACS Aviation provides fire and rescue services, air-ground communications, handling support, and aviation fuel services. ACS Flight Training offers UK CAA- and EASA-approved airline pilot training courses for individual customers and airlines throughout Europe and around the world. Its graduates go on to work with leading airlines all over the world. ■

Micro Vortex Generators Micro Vortex Generators are small aluminium blades placed in a spanwise line aft of the leading edge of the wing and on tail surfaces. They control airflow over the upper surface of the wing by creating vortices that energize the boundary layer. This results in improved performance and control authority at low airspeeds and high angles of attack.
The Benefits of Micro VGs • Lower Lift Off Speed • Lower Stall Speeds • Improved Controllability • Improved Characteristics • Improved Safety • S.T.O.L. Benefits • 1 Day Installation

ASL Camguard™ is an advanced oil supplement, F.A.A. accepted for use in most piston aircraft engines. Camguard is formulated to safeguard the investment in your aircraft engine by addressing the complex and interrelated problems of corrosion, carbon deposits and mechanical wear. Camguard combats corrosion by leaving a continuous film of inhibitor on metal surfaces. Camguard halts deposit formation, leaving your engine clean and parts free to move. So whether you fly a little or a lot, Camguard always pays dividends with decreased aircraft engine maintenance costs. Just adding 5% of ASL Camguard to your oil at every oil change provides peace of mind that comes with knowing your investment is protected.
