The construction of the fuselage is conventional fo ormed sheet metal bulkhead, stringer, and skin design reffeerred to as semimonocoque. Major items of structure are the front and rest carr ythrough spars to which the wings are attached. All metal fuselage construction is with fixed the steel rod gear nose and aluminium main landing gear ear with diff ffeerential hydraulic brakes. In the cocpit area are two seats in tandem with 4points seat belts. The tail units and assembly consists of a conventional vertical stabilizer, rudder, horizontal stabilizer, and elevator with trim tab actuator.
Wing
The externally braced wings, ailerons, flaps are constructed of a front and rear spar with for o med sheet metal ribs, doublers, and stringers. Conventional hinged ailerons and single – slotted flaps are attached to the trailing edge of the wings. The flaps have electrical drive system for o 20 dg and 40 dg deflections. Into wing space construction is integral tanks with capacity 2 × 70 l.
Flight controls
The airplane´s flight control system consists of conventional aileron, rudder, and elevator control sur faces. The control sur faces are manually operated mechanically, only trim tab is powered ellectrically.

Eng ine and propeller are installed on the customers request. We offfer e equipped with ROTAX 912 UL (80 HP), ROTAX 912 ULS (100 HP) or ROTAX 914 UL (115 HP). The propeller is off ffer e ed on – ground adjustable.

With this validation, these avionics are certified and approved for installation in hundreds of makes and models of European-registered general aviation aircraft. With this validation, these avionics are certified and approved for installation in hundreds of makes and models of European-registered general aviation aircraft. “The GTN has been very well received since its introduction earlier this year, with thousands of units already installed,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin’s vice president of aviation sales and marketing. “Now, through the validation of the Federal Aviation Administration’s STC, EASA has made it possible, and more affordable, for European aircraft owners to immediately benefit from the latest technology, simplified interface and enhanced safety features that come with installing the GTN series.” The GTN 650 and GTN 750 series are the successors to the popular GNS 430W and 530W series GPS/NAV/COM avionics. They combine the latest in multi-function display (MFD) features with touchscreen data entry and integrated radio tuning, as well as optional remote transponder control. The GTN 750 series can also optionally support remote audio processor control. Other new capabilities include graphical flight planning with victor airways and high-altitude jet routes and the capacity to display European electronic terminal procedure charts with optional Garmin ChartView™ (750 series only).

Tecnam also announced that the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has issued Major Change Approval 10037759 confirming the increase in the Tecnam P2006 Twin’s Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW) to 1230 kg. Tecnam have always followed EASA certification for its aeroplanes by ensuring that other similar international bodies validated Tecnam’s new aeroplane models too. The units are available in two sizes and in a variety of configurations. GTN 650 series products are contained in a 2.64-inch tall package that replicates the in-stack form factor of the GNS 430W design, while providing a display that is over 50 percent larger. The GTN 750 series is 6 inches tall with a display nearly 100 percent larger than that of the GNS 530W. All products in the GTN series are satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS)-enabled (WAAS and EGNOS) enabling pilots to fly GPS-guided LPV glidepath approaches down to ILScomparable minimums. In addition, precise course deviation and roll steering outputs can be coupled to select autopilots so that IFR flight procedures may be flown automatically. The GTN series meets current European regulatory requirements including 8.33 kHz VHF Communication, immunity from FM radio broadcasts, B-RNAV, P-RNAV and optional Class B TAWS. The standard GTN 650 and GTN 750 feature a 10-watt COM, and a field upgradeable 16-watt version is also available. The GTN 725 is similar to the GTN 750, but is a GPS-only unit. The GTN 625 is also a GPS-only unit, and the GTN 635 is a GPS unit with VHF Communications radio. Because the GTN offers a wide array of compatibility with select Garmin avionics and sensors, Garmin has made it possible to have a consistent and intuitive interface with other systems – like audio and transponder – by creating simplified systems management functionality on the GTN display. Saving valuable panel space, Garmin’s new GMA 35 remote mount audio processor (optional) interfaces with the GTN 750 and makes it possible for the GTN to be used as a touchscreen control head for the aircraft’s audio and intercom functions. Garmin’s GTX 33/33D remote transponders (optional) also interface with the GTN 650 or 750, enabling pilots to control the transponder function from the GTN’s display. International AOPA's 50th anniversary falls in 2012 and our President Craig Fuller has written a short retrospective on a successful half-century and an upbeat prognosis for the next 50 years. The burgeoning of general aviation in emerging nations gives the greatest cause for optimism, and Craig observes that the world's 350,000-strong GA aircraft fleet and 1.5 million pilot population is certain to grow significantly. But IAOPA will continue to fight for GA in its established homes, where it is under great pressure. Originally formed in February 1962 to give general aviation a voice at ICAO, IAOPA's founding members were the USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa and the Philippines. Germany, Italy, Mexico and Venezuela joined in the first year, and the first IAOPA World Assembly was held in London in 1966. The group grew to embrace 69 member nations. ICAO was primarily concerned with commercial aviation, but IAOPA was deeply involved in the work that led to the publication in 1968 of Annex 6, Part II of the Chicago Convention which set out global recommendations for GA. IAOPA's fingerprints are visible throughout that document, and its less-prescriptive revised form which appeared in 2010. IAOPA maintains a

IAOPA has responded to EASA’s consultation on its Notice of Proposed Amendment on instrument flying, welcoming moves to create a more attainable Instrument Rating while seeking a change to rename the proposed En Route Instrument Rating the ‘En Route IFR Rating’ to make it clear that it should not be thought of as an instrument rating, but primarily as ‘a rating which extends the privileges of a VFR-only pilot to include en-route flight under circumstances which require mandatory compliance with IFR, whether in VMC or IMC’.

Italy has introduced a new 'luxury tax' on private aircraft which will have a serious impact on the aviation industry and is likely to cost the country more than it brings in in revenue. The new tax will be levied on a sliding scale from €1.5 per kilogram per year for aircraft under 1,000 kgs to €7.55 per kg for aircraft over 10,000 kg, with helicopters paying double. While the tax will further depress aircraft ownership in Italy, it could affect every pilot in Europe because it applies to any private aircraft, of any nationality, which remains on Italian territory for 48 hours or more. Not only does that make visiting Italy expensive, but even passing through the country becomes risky. A weather delay, a mechanical problem, or industrial action by ATC could land the transiting pilot with a tax bill running into thousands of euros. Massimo Levy of AOPA Italy says: "It looks like they really want to put an end GA in this country. Can you imagine an English tourist with a private plane being obliged to pay €3,500 'luxury tax' at the end of his long weekend in Italy? Or the American businessman arriving with his Citation remaining for more than two days?

Over the last 50 years IAOPA has been responsible for significant improvements in licensing, standardisation, rules of the air, equipage, airworthiness requirements, airport access, environmental issues, security and more. In Europe, Craig says, the pace of change has been particularly challenging, with the EC adopting an aggressive posture and Eurocontrol, EASA and SESAR creating a whole new aviation landscape. Craig identifies the global challenges as equitable and affordable access to airspace and airports, and the encroachment of unnecessary fees, charges, regulations, pilot currency and equipment mandates. IAOPA's goals include minimum equipage requirements commensurate with safety, preservation of airfields, elimination of unjustified fees, rationalisation of security requirements at a s ensible level which preserves the freedom to fly, reduction of regulation and improvements in safety. Every one of IAOPA's 450,000 members worldwide can make a contribution, by sharing the passion for flight with friends and neighbours, reaching out to the media and other organisations, and telling of the great contribution that GA can make to the lives of individuals and the economy of nations. Here's the the next 50 years! IAOPA-Europe also welcomes moves to make conversion of third-country IRs easier, but seeks greater flexibility in allowing national aviation authorities to amend the rules according to local requirements. This is partly in response to the threat to the UK’s national Instrument Meteorological Conditions Rating, which is largely responsible for Britain’s excellent GA safety record – some three or four times safer that the European average. IAOPA-Europe has made a total of 23 responses to the NPA and has encouraged individual members everywhere to make their own. While boats and cars enjoy a discount on the basis of the age – after 20 years a boat pays only 50% of the tax and a car does not pay at all – aircraft pay the full amount indefinitely.

Helicopters must conform to this weight scale but pay double the amounts. Gliders, motorgliders, gyroplanes and balloons will pay a fixed €450 per year. The application of these tax rates to foreign aircraft will discourage aerial tourism, but Massimo Levy wonders whether anyone will really notice. "Italy already extends poor hospitality to foreign GA airplanes, with all its airspace and airport regulations and charges," he says, "so possibly no-one will notice that the trade has all gone, unless something happens like a foreigner refusing to pay and the authorities impounding an aircraft. Something like this would make a lot of bad publicity to the country. “Perhaps AOPA members will consider writing to the Italian embassy in their respective countries pointing out that Italy will lose more than it gains by this.” Continued on Page 12

Finland has applied to join the 69 countries which make up International AOPA, and has been granted provisional membership as a step towards full participation status. Spitfire TR.9 was due to make its first flight in over 25 years during December. The aircraft to be based at the Air Fighter Academy GmbH at Heringsdorf in the Baltic region of northern Germany, has been totally re-built by Meier Motors during the last 12 months. The aircraft has previously been part of the Champlin collection in the USA. It was originally manufactured at Castle Bromwich, UK in late 1943, flying 50 operations as a single seat fighter before conversion to TR.9 in 1950 flying with the Irish Air Corps.
The only surviving IMAM Ro.43 observation floatplane in the world has gone on display at the Italian Air Force Museum at Vigna di Valle, just north of Rome.

Light Aircraft Option Arises At the end of 2011, Duxford-based de Havilland Support Ltd., (DHSL) announced that from April 2012, it intends to recind the Type Certificates it holds for many vintage de Havilland types, potentially releasing these aircraft into the alternative regime of “Permit to Fly” operation. The announcement follows much negotiation between DHSL, BAE Systems (which contracts DHSL to look after the de Havilland heritage types) and the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). PRODUCTS & SERVICES NEWS GROUND REINFORCEMENT PERFO Providing Reinforcement for Airfields for Over 10 years PERFO is a system of interlocking tiles made primarily from recycled plastics (PE/PP) used to provide reinforcement of grassed areas on airfields, such as runways, taxiways and parking areas. PERFO was originally developed in Germany in the mid 1990s and initially found applications in the equestrian sector, used to reinforce paddocks etc. as well as being used to provide durable parking areas on greenfield sites. In the late 1990s the first application on an airfield in the Black Forest in Germany was established. PERFO’s ground Standard PERFO reinforcing properties were Tiles recognised by a committee member of the aero club who had also used the product for his horses. The grass runway at the gliding site was reinforced with PERFO over several hundred metres and allowed the club to operate through the winter, when previously the runway had become too soft for safe operation.
S2T’s first major PERFO installation at Guernsey International Airport
In 2001 the UK-based S2T Group became aware of the PERFO system and saw its potential to solve the common issue of soft ground on many of the UK’s airfields. A dealership agreement was established, with the first major installation of over 7000 m² being carried out on the General Aviation grass parking area at Guernsey International Airport in the Channel Islands. Since then S2T have gone from strength to strength, expanding their activities across Europe and beyond, having acquired the global rights to the PERFO product range. Airfields from Russia and Estonia to Vancouver and Nigeria have since benefited from PERFO’s ground reinforcing qualities. PERFO’s success and effectiveness is due to it possessing a number of unique characteristics. Each element of the patent-protected product has a selfanchoring barb along its bottom edge, which holds it firmly in the ground. The individual elements are joined by a very secure arrowhead interlocking system. But perhaps the greatest advantage of PERFO is that the system can be installed from above into an existing grass surface (whether a mature grassed area or newly prepared strip).

This allows for complete, natural looking grass coverage as the grass grows back through the PERFO tiles within a short time after installation. This produces far better results than other “back-filled” geogrid systems which tend to result in only patchy grass coverage. It also means that large areas can be installed within a relatively short space of time. An experienced team of around 6 people can reinforce an area of up to 1000 m² in a day, meaning minimal disruption to the airfield’s operations. By using PERFO, natural drainage is maintained and the product is environmentally neutral. This also avoids planning approval issues.

In some cases, such as at the Red Bull owned Völtendorf airfield (LOAD) in Austria, the installation of PERFO was the final stage of a major improvement program at the aerodrome, which included drainage work, extension and levelling and re-seeding of the runway and preparation of a large parking apron. A total of appox. 20,000 m² of PERFO was used. The resulting runway has the smoothness of a billiard table all year round and has proved extremely popular with club members and visitors alike, with further airfields across Europe having decided to use the PERFO system after visiting Völtendorf.

Recently, S2T provided the PERFO system to Cloppenburg Airfield in Germany, where the entire length of the runway was reinforced, after soil improvement measures to enhance the grass surface, together with a number of taxiways. The project included integration of S2T’s special voltages. But other aircraft have a 24 volt system, why is that you may ask. This brief article will explain. Watts are a product of voltage and current, the higher the voltage you use the lower the current requirements and the smaller the components (to an extent) and the wiring. So inductors (which are iron, which is heavy) can be made lighter and produce the same effective resistance and capacitors can have a less conductive dielectric. At the turn of the year some of the leading specialists in aviation market forecasting have offered their update on their visions of the market from 2011 extending through the next 10 years to 2020.
Forecast International Forecast International recently released its latest research on The Market for Business Jet Aircraft 2011-2020. Here we briefly summarise key points from this excellent and comprehensive piece of research. Forecast International maintains that while the worst of the downturn is certainly over, the business jet market has yet to enter full recovery mode. Much of the market, specifically the light and mid-size jet segments, remains stagnant at best. The top end of the market is showing signs of life, as demand is improving for large-cabin and long-range business jets. In the midst of continuing uncertainty in the general economy, the business jet market is limping along. Business jet deliveries will be lower in 2011 than in 2010, but some improvement should occur in 2012. Greater improvement will have to wait until 2013. The business jet market is especially sluggish in the key regions of North America and Europe. In both of these regions, a dip back into economic recession is not out of the question. In the U.S. in particular, uncertainty about the economy and about future governmental tax and regulatory policies is resulting in corporations sitting on big cash reserves. Corporate profits, normally a prime leading indicator of business jet demand, are presently quite healthy, but company officials are reluctant to engage in large capital expenditures. Still, this robust level of profits, combined with operator surveys regarding future purchase expectations, indicates that considerable latent demand seems to exist for business jet aircraft. While the U.S. is, and will remain, the largest geographic market for business jets, its share of the global market has declined considerably in recent years. At the present time, non-U.S. customers account for some 45-50 percent of business jet sales and for some manufacturers, they account for much more than 50 percent. Market demand is strong in the Middle East, Asia and parts of Latin America.

Business jet manufacturers have used the market downturn to reorganize operations, reduce their cost structures, and consolidate their market positions. Each of the Big Six OEMs has at least one new model in development. Some of these new aircraft are clean-sheet designs such as the Gulfstream G650, the Learjet 85, the Embraer Legacy 450 and Legacy 500, and the HondaJet. Others are extensively upgraded versions of existing aircraft. These include such models as Cessna's Citation Ten, Embraer's Legacy 650, and Hawker Beechcraft's Hawker 200.

November 2011 business aircraft flight activity was down 1.5% over October, although a more specific look at the operational categories shows Part 135 activity was up 0.4% from the previous month, followed by fractional activity (up 0.1%). The Part 91market posted a decline from the previous month, down 2.8%. Generally, activity by aircraft category trended down from October however; large cabin aircraft did show a monthover-month increase (up 0.4%). Mid-size cabin
For methodological purposes, this market analysis divides the business jet market into eight categories, ranging from Very Light Jets to corporate-configured airliners. While Forecast International has limited the number of such classes to eight, it observes that the market has actually become so diverse that 10 or even 12 classes would not be unreasonable. Manufacturers are launching new models into ever more narrow sub-niches in their pursuit of sales and market share.
The Forecast from FI Forecast International projects that business jet production in the 2011-2020 time period will total 10,907 aircraft. The value of this production is estimated at $230.3 billion in constant 2011 U.S. dollars. Production is f orecast to total 683 units in 2011, and then rise to 728 units in 2012. This increase is expected to mark the start of a gradual, though long-lasting, recovery in build rates extending through the remainder of the forecast timeframe. During the forecast period, the top three manufacturers in unit production are projected to be Cessna, Embraer, and Bombardier. Cessna is projected to capture a 29.5 percent share of the market on production of 3,218 business jets. Second is Embraer, which is expected to produce 1,855 business jets for a 17 percent market share. Bombardier takes third place with production of 1,712 business jets, a 15.7 percent market share. (Fourth, fifth, and sixth places are taken by Gulfstream, Hawker Beechcraft and Dassault, respectively.) When the market is calculated in terms of monetary value, the manufacturers of the larger, high-value business jet types rise to the top of the rankings. In production value, Gulfstream takes the top spot with $58.3 billion worth of production, a share of 25.3 percent. In second place is Bombardier, with $51.6 billion worth of production and a 22.4 percent share. Dassault, Cessna, Embraer, Hawker Beechcraft and Airbus take the next five spots. The Part 91 market stayed positive, up 4.0% from November 2010. The Part 135 market on the other hand remained down year-over-year (off 3.3%), followed by fractional activity which was down 0.6%. Aircraft category results finished mostly positive in November. All aircraft segments (with the exception of large cabin) posted a yearover- year increase led by small cabin aircraft, up 2.1%. Mid-size cabin increased 2.1%, and turboprops were up 1.1%. Large cabin aircraft finished the month down 2.8% from November 2010. According to J.P.Morgan's Business Jet Monthly report, overall demand looks weaker amid expectations for decelerating global economic growth, though the high end of the market remains far more vibrant than the lower end. Among recent data points, Bombardier’s Q3 book-to-bill of 0.7x fell from the prior three quarters, but orders are lumpy and 2011 is still shaping up well at 1.3x. AgustaWestland has flown its AW189 medium helicopter for the first time. The aircraft, which is a spin-off the AW149 military transport, took to the air for the first time at the company's Cascina Costa plant on 21 December. The company said the aircraft performed 'as expected' during the maiden flight in the hands of Chief Test Pilot Giuseppe Lo Coco. The company also says that on longer-range missions, the EC175 can transport 12 passengers out to 190 nautical miles. Eurocopter also said it is working on an 18 passenger configuration for the aircraft. Maximum radius of action for such a configuration would be around 100 nautical miles. “Eurocopter has maintained a two-way dialog with operators and end-users throughout the EC175’s \development programme, providing us with an ever better understanding of their operational needs from 2012 and beyond,” said CEO Lutz Bertling. “As a result, we have incorporated certain adaptations that will further improve the helicopter’s operational capability, placing it ahead of the competition from its entry into service.” The two EC175 prototypes have logged more than 270 flight hours to date and industrial activity is continuing – with the first two serial aircraft being assembled at the Eurocopter’s Marignane facility Capital Air Services. The customised EC135 is the result of a combined design programme carried out by Eurocopter and the House of Hermès. It is the fifth to join the Capital Air Services fleet. On 22 December 2011, Eurocopter delivered two EC225 aircraft to commercial air transportation services group, Héli-Union. According to Eurocopter, the EC225s are configured for offshore operations and will be deployed for transportation services for oil and gas companies. The aircraft are the first EC225s to join Héli-Union’s fleet, which already consists of Eurocopter’s AS350, EC145, AS365, AS332.
