XtremeAir GmbH is an EASA-certified company which develops and manufactures carbon fibre composite aerobatic aircraft. Twin Commander Aircraft has launched a special training program for technicians who will perform the airframe structural inspections detailed in Service Bulletin 241, which was recently released.

The two-day class begins with a presentation on the service bulletin, followed by a read-through of the document, examination of the provided drawings, and discussions of potential problems that could be encountered. Training aids provide visual and tactile reference. The class concludes with a graded exam. Upon successful completion of the class, the technician is issued a reference CD with the presentation, the formal service bulletin, associated publications, and the relevant drawings in PDF format. The technician can refer to the CD while performing the service bulletin inspections. Each graduate receives an official certificate and verification stamp.

Cirrus Service needed?

The service bulletin calls for inspection and modification of the fuselage-to-wing-main-spar attachment in models 690, 690A and 690B Twin Commanders, with the exception of certain serial number 690As and Bs that have already been inspected and modified. (Later-model Twin Commanders â&#x20AC;&#x201C; 690C/D and 695/A/B â&#x20AC;&#x201C; have a different wing-to-fuselage design and are not affected by the service bulletin.)

The class will be taught by Michael Grabbe, a highly experienced and knowledgeable instructor who has been working with Twin Commanders since 1974. Grabbe was a factory service representative at the Aero Commander Division of Gulfstream Aerospace, and later spent more than six years at FlightSafety International as Director of Maintenance Training in FSIâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Twin Commander program. He currently serves as Technical Advisor at Eagle Creek Aviation Services.

Flying Prototype SAM LS to Show at Sebring - New LSA’s Maiden Flight Anticipated during December SAM Aircraft is readying for Sebring, with an advance look at its new SAM LS, a retro-look LSA with modern comfort, technology, and flying manners.

SAM LS at Wings Over Gatineau, in Canada in September

The shiny aluminum bird was most-recently revealed to the public at Oshkosh and at Wings Over Gatineau, in Canada in September, where 30,000 attendees had a look at its new cowl and nearly-complete interior and panel. Ultimate load testing was completed without any surprises by the end of September. A 7.9g load was applied on a wing to simulate a vertical gust of 15 m/s per the LSA ASTM regulations. (Per LSA limit, the gross weight of the aircraft is 1320 lbs.) The SAM LS was also tested under load to demonstrate Wing under ultimate load testing full aileron operation.

The SAM LS will be flying before Sebring, and a large part of its flight envelope will be revealed there. The Sebring show will provide the first opportunity for prospective customers to place orders for their SAM LS. SAM Aircraft is a Premier Partner of the 9th Annual U.S. Sport Aviation Expo to be held January 17-20, 2013 at the Sebring Regional Airport in central Florida. ARINC DirectSM Introduces ARINC Direct ConnectOnboard Communications System ARINC Direct, one of the leading Flight Services solution provider for business aviation, premiered its new ARINC Direct ConnectOnboard Communications System at this year’s NBAA Annual Meeting and Convention, Oct 30 - Nov 1 in Orlando, Florida, USA.

A new hi-tech Voice Communication Control System (VCCS) has been installed for Air Traffic Control at London Biggin Hill Airport. The system uses the latest touch-screen technology, integrates and processes all requirements for communication into a neat, desk-mounted VDU console that enables a higher level of performance readily available for Controllers and ATC Assistants. It has recently received approval from the UK Civil Aviation Authority. Designed and constructed in Holland by Micro Electronic Products (MEP), the £155,000 system known as TCP990, comprises a central electronic processor or ‘nerve centre’ in the heart of the Tower that integrates and processes all required inputs from VHF and UHF channels, personnel and emergency radio units and a host of pre-selected operational agencies and contacts into a dedicated console display at each Controller position and on the ATC Assistant’s desk. Bill Robinson, Senior Air Traffic Controller at the airport, says that the VCCS is one of the most significant steps forward in 25 years of air traffic management. “VCCS replaces the old push button and dial-up era of yesteryear and is already proving to be a huge benefit to our ATC staff . Today, all their varied communication requirements are presented for touch selection in a single display at their position. Bell 206L Radar Altimeter Mount Kit

Bell has announced it has received Supplemental Type Certification (STC) approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for a Radar Altimeter Mount Kit for the Bell 206L, Bell 206L-1, Bell 206L-3, and Bell 206L-4 helicopter models. The Radar Altimeter Mount Kit provides two flat mounting locations for installation of either a Bendix King KA-54A or Sensor Systems, Inc. S67-2002 altimeter antenna on the bottom of the tailboom. Installing the antennas on the tailboom allows for additional optional equipment or large mission equipment to be installed on the belly of the aircraft. Avidyne DFC90 now Certified for Cessna 182 Avidyne has received FAA STC approval of the DFC90 Digital Autopilot in Cessna 182-series aircraft. This is the first in a series of DFC90 certifications in aircraft with the Aspen EFD1000 Pro PFD. STEC30/50/60-2/65 series autopilots may also be replaced by a DFC90 under this STC. This initial STC covers the DFC90 autopilot as a plug-and-play retrofit of existing STEC55X systems in 16 models of the Cessna 182 Skylane Series including the 182E, 182F, 182G, 182H, 182J, 182K, 182L, 182M, 182N, R182N, 182P, 182Q, 182R, 182S, 182T, and the R182. Over 20,000 of these specific models of aircraft were built between the years 1961-1985 and 1997-2012. Aspen holds an Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for their Evolution Pro PFD on a wide range of aircraft including all 16 of these C182 models. Follow-on certifications of the DFC90 are expected to include the Beechcraft Bonanza and Baron series. Boeing to Offer the BBJ MAX-8 and MAX-9 Boeing intends to offer the BBJ MAX-8 and the BBJ MAX 9. The BBJ MAX-8, based on the 737 MAX-8, will be the first member of the BBJ MAX family to take advantage of the efficiency of CFM International’s new LEAP-1B engines and the Boeing developed Advanced Technology Winglet, and will provide 13 percent fuel-use improvement, translating to a range of 6,325 nautical miles - 14-percent more than today’s BBJ 2 (subject to validation). Meanwhile, the BBJ MAX-8 will share the same cabin size with today’s BBJ2. Boeing also plans for a BBJ MAX-9, based on the 737 MAX-9, and a BBJ MAX-7. Regarding the MAX-9, similar performance improvements are anticipated, including a 6,255 nm range with an even larger cabin than the BBJ MAX-8. The Airbus ACJ318 Enhanced introduces a more elegant cabin decor, new seats and high-definition in-flight entertainment, as well as formalizing options such as fuel-saving Sharklets, a shower, a cinema lounge and many more features as standard. The OEM is also looking at a long-range version of the ACJ320. The airframer has not launched a re-engined ACJ320neo, but intends to deliver the first such type by at least 2019. It will look to expand the ACJ's range beyond 6,000nm, but it has no intention of beating the potential range of a BBJ MAX-7. At a standing-room only press briefing, company spokesmen talked about the Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings; what happened with failed talks with Superior Aviation Beijing; the company’s jet business; and life going forward as a re-energized Beechcraft Corporation after it emerges from bankruptcy. Hawker Beechcraft chairman, Bill Boisture outlined six bids were received from interested parties from around the world for the company. With the decision now to emerge as a standalone company featuring its Beechjet, Baron, King Air and trainer products, the company will sell-off or close its jet business. - Achieves EASA Part 145 approval to take Learjet 45 maintenance in-house Perfect Aviation SA, Switzerland’s only publicly listed business aviation management and charter operator, Perfect Aviation’s Learjet 45 will move its UK subsidiary Perfect acquired in May Aviation UK Ltd to a bigger 1,066 sqm hangar and offices located at London Biggin Hill Airport as the company moves to further expand its aircraft maintenance capabilities. The new facility has been extensively renovated and the move gives the company additional ramp parking – big enough to park four mid-sized business jets. Perfect will now undertake inhouse base maintenance for its own Learjet 45 fleet. Perfect’s aircraft maintenance activities are headed by Director of Maintenance, Nigel Cooper who previously ran a well known Bombardier approved maintenance facility for Lear 40/45 and Challenger 300 types from the same facility. The company already holds approval for Learjet 40/45 maintenance and plans to expand its capability to other types as demand grows. Together with its EASA Part-M Subpart CAMO status it can also offer its expertise to third party operators.

The ninth convention of the user organization for DAHER-SOCATA’s TBM very fast turboprops – the TBM Owners and Pilots Association (TBMOPA) – surpassed all previous records with the presence of 95 TBM 700s and TBM 850s for its annual gathering, which was held this year at Amelia Island off the U.S. state of Florida. These TBM aircraft landed at Fernandina Beach Airport, and some 275 total attendees participated in the October 24-27 meeting at the Amelia Island Ritz Carlton resort – located on the southernmost of the Sea Islands along the U.S. East Coast. During its 2012 convention, the TBMOPA offered three days of dynamic academic sessions customized for TBM owners and operators, featuring presentations by industry leaders as well as TBM system vendors.

AMAC Aerospace has delivered the first BBJ 777-200LR (long range) ever to be completed for a private customer in the Middle East. The aircraft was brought to AMAC by Aviation link, Saudi Arabia,who took delivery of the completed aircraft from AMAC’s facility in Basel, Switzerland following the conclusion of 19 months’ completion work, involving more than a combined 500000 man-hours.

This unique aircraft features 29’000kgs of interior cabin weight, a total surface area of 265m2 with various spaces including private hallway, master bedroom, master lavatory, private lounges, majlis, cabanas, guest areas, staff areas and various galleys throughout the cabin.

The company was granted a number of new approvals, allowing it to increase the range of services it offers to its international clients. Back to business for London Oxford Airport London Oxford Airport reports a record fortnight of activity in the first two weeks of September with up to 10 heavy jet movements per day on several days and a 25% increase in overall business aircraft traffic compared with the same period last year. Most of the transcontinental movements including Bombardier Global Express and Gulfstream IVs and 550 aircraft were first time users of the airport, reflecting that international exposure reaped during the run up to the Olympic Games may have had lasting benefits.

FlairJet, the London Oxford Airport-based business charter and management company, completed its 20th Embraer aircraft acceptance and/or delivery at the end of September. Southampton General Hospital and the Helicopter Emergency Landing Pads Appeal (HELP Appeal) recently celebrated the first anniversary of the hospital’s onsite helipad.

A dry suit created in Barnsley is helping to protect thousands of emergency workers facing dangerous waters across the UK. Fire crews and coastguards are among those kitted out with the suit made by Hoyland-based AZDRY.

Simon Hutchins, Manager of the Reuben Brothers-owned Barclays London Heliport greeted the guests when the helicopter landed from Coventry Airport, the operations base of the TCAA. Applauding the initiative, The Reuben Foundation has pledged its support to The Children’s Air Ambulance, commenting: “We recognise the crucial service provided by The Children’s Air Ambulance across London and the UK and are pleased to give our support and welcome them to The Barclays London Heliport.” TCAA will transfer critically ill children from general hospitals to Paediatric Intensive Care Units across England and Wales, or help move specialist paediatric teams to enable children to receive the lifesaving, specialist treatment and care that they need as soon as possible, cutting transfer times.
