Rheinland Air Service Assumes Sales and Service Responsibilities for KODIAK Sandpoint, ID…Quest Aircraft Company is pleased to announce that it has signed an agreement with Rheinland Air Service (RAS) to represent Quest as the exclusive dealer for KODIAK aircraft in Europe. RAS will also serve as an authorized KODIAK service center. Headquartered at Mönchengladbach Airport near Düsseldorf, RAS joins an existing network of KODIAK sales and service dealers strategically located around the world. Its subsidiary, Aviation Centre in Windhoek, Namibia, is also a KODIAK authorized service center for that region.

“This latest addition reflects the company’s commitment to continued growth and global expansion in key parts of the world,” Zinda added. “While we do have several KODIAKs in service there, we have not focused heavily on the European market. With the impending changes regarding single-engine turboprops by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) coupled with the market potential and RAS’ strong presence, we think the KODIAK will see increased interest from a variety of customer segments.” A 3-panel Garmin G1000 integrated avionics suite including Synthetic Vision Technology is standard equipment on the KODIAK. RAS is a recognized leader in aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), as well as aircraft sales, support, and fueling. With over 40 years of technical expertise, including both EASA and FAA Part 145 certifications, RAS employs 240 people across Europe and Africa. In addition to the KODIAK, RAS is also a dealer for HondaJet, DAHER TBM series, WACO YMF-5D and Great Lakes 2T-1A biplanes. The RAS companies serve business, general and commercial aviation.

“RAS is a good fit for Quest and for the KODIAK,” said Steve Zinda, Quest’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Like all of our dealers, RAS brings professionalism, experience and a strong relationship with customers and potential customers in the geographic area they represent.” RAS’ territory covers 35 countries which include both European Union (EU) and non-EU member countries. Their territory stretches from Iceland and the United Kingdom in the west to Scandinavia in the north and as far south as Greece, Cyprus and Malta.

“With its outstanding versatility and performance, the rugged KODIAK will be of great interest to many of our customers,” said RAS CEO Johannes Graf von Schaesberg. “Customers are already familiar with the time-tested and well proven PT6-34 engine. But the reliable and comfortable KODIAK also offers customers an entirely new level of mission flexibility.” Quest has seen strong market acceptance in key market segments around the world, including personal use, Part 135 operations, corporate transport, government and humanitarian organizations. The KODIAK is certified in 17 countries, with several additional certifications imminent. The company has also begun working on obtaining EASA certification. The KODIAK’s rugged aluminum construction combines superior STOL performance and high useful load. With powerful turbine performance, the aircraft has the ability to land and take off from unimproved surfaces and is capable of working off floats without structural upgrades. The KODIAK can take off in under 1,000 feet at full gross takeoff weight of 7,255 lbs. and climb at over 1,300 feet per minute.

NASA will fit an experimental 31-foot aircraft wing with 18 electric motors placed along the leading edge onto a Tecnam P2006T aircraft frame. The wing is made of carbon composite, while the electric engines are powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries. The wing and electric motors will both manufactured and integrated on the P2006T airframe by the US based companies ESAero and Joby Aviation. Researchers hope to fly the modified Tecnam P2006T piloted X-plane within the next couple years, enabling NASA engineers to easily compare the performance of the X-plane version with the standard Tecnam P2006T Twin. The Tecnam P2006T Twin has already established itself as the aircraft of choice by many of the worldâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading Flight Training Organisations. Sales of light sport aircraft in the U.S. for 2014 totalled 199, according to numbers compiled and released this week by the Light Aircraft Manufacturers Association. CubCrafters took first place, with 50 airplanes, and Van's Aircraft took second place for the year, with 26 copies of its factory-built RV-12 sold. Other top sellers for the year include Progressive Aerodyne's Searey, Flight Design's CTLSi, and Tecnam's P92. In terms of overall market share, Flight Design continues to rank first, with a total of 372 aircraft sold, or 13.4 percent of the fleet, and CubCrafters takes second place, with 326 aircraft

Among the highlights in this year's report is the performance of the Searey amphibian SLSA, with 19 registered in 2014, in its first year of deliveries. "Over many years this company has delivered more than 600 kit versions of its amphib," wrote LAMA President Dan Johnson at his LSA blog. "They won FAA audit approval to make SLSA models in late 2013 and went right to work filling demand. They've also won Chinese TDA approval and may break into that market, which many expect to explode." Total sales for the sector have been up and down, with a total of 259 LSA deliveries in 2012. Johnson points out however that the numbers reflect only the USA market, and he estimates the total fleet deliveries worldwide for LSA in 2014 at about 3,000.

The UK company ProAirsport, has created a hybrid microlight aeroplane that combines a microlight and a glider. The plane’s wheels are electric so it can taxi on the ground into a landing or starting position, and it has jet turbine engines to allow it to take off, go upwards and then cruise at its desired altitude.

The GloW should have an extended range of travel since it can operate as either a glider or microlight aircraft. Being able to travel with the power off helps to accomplish these facts. Normal gliders can usually go hundreds of miles and stay in the air for up to 10 hours if they have the right air conditions. Having an engine should allow the GloW to do better than these standards. ProAirsport is presently constructing two versions of this GloW demonstration aircraft; one will be for the UK market and one for the US market. Decorated Helicopter Rescue Pilot visits Museum Jerry-Grayson. On Sunday (29th March ) as part of the Whirly Birds event, pilot Jerry Grayson will visit The Helicopter Museum to see the Westland Whirlwind and Wessex helicopters he flew in the Fleet Air Arm and to sign copies of his new biography ” Rescue Pilot”. Jerry Grayson became the youngest helicopter pilot to ever serve in the Royal Navy at the age of 17. He was one of the last pilots to train on the Westland Whirlwind, as they were soon replaced by the Aerospatiale Gazelle helicopter.

KILFROST’s Type IV de/anti-icing fluid approved for use in China

market currently uses about ten per cent of the de/anti-icing fluid that is used in the US. The approval of the Type IV fluid can help modernise the Chinese approach to de/anti-icing, which so far has centered on Type I and II fluids.

The Civil Aviation Administration for China (CAAC) has approved the use of Type IV de/anti-icing fluid for the Chinese market. Demand for the high performing fluid has increased in China due to the bad weather conditions experienced in winter and approval was granted by the CAAC after stringent testing over a six month period. The Titan Tool’s TVSG Series Videoscope comes in both a 4.5m and 6mm diameter and both 1.5m and 3.0m lengths. The main benefit of Type IV fluid is that it allows for extended holdover times – the time an anti-icing fluid will prevent the formation of frost or ice. This makes multiple re-appliances of the fluid unnecessary. Maximum holdover time is especially important in snow conditions. The fluid is monoproplyene glycol based, making it environmentally friendly and readily biodegradable, as well as non-toxic, non-flammable and easy to handle due to low foaming during application. Type IV fluid has been used widely throughout Europe and the rest of the world for the past 15 years. Despite winter weather in China being similar to that in North America, the Chinese

For decades, turboprop business aircraft customers have really only had one choice with Beechcraft’s twin-engined King Airs commanding the market. The safety factor of two engines was always an important consideration, but that’s now being challenged by single-engined turboprops; notably the Swiss manufactured Pilatus PC-12. The PC-12 has the significant advantage of lower costs of operation, while attitudes to single engines are changing. The first PC-12 was delivered to American customer Carlston Leasing Corporation in 1994, then the 1,000th example was completed in 2010. Most recently, the 1,300th unit was handed over to California-based, Surf Air in February. Surf Air has pioneered the concept of the private travel club, operating in California and providing its subscribing members with a network of 44 flights a day taking in eight destinations in the San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles areas.

The PC-12 also operates scheduled services with many companies such as Alaska-based Iliamna Air Taxi which uses its two aircraft to provide mail, freight and passenger service to six destinations including Anchorage, Port Alsworth and Kokhanok. In New England, meanwhile, Tradewind Aviation has nine PC-12s, flying ‘Premium Scheduled Service’ out of White Plains to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Tailwind also has aircraft based in the Caribbean, operating out of San Juan, Puerto Rico to Anguilla, Antigua, Nevis and St. Barths. Corporate fleet operators have added PC-12s into their mixed fleets, particularly to serve company locationswhich have nearby light aircraft strips which suit the PC-12’s short field and offairport capabilities. The aircraft is also very popular with private pilot owners who use it as a flying station wagon, capable of carrying largeloads. Typical of these owners is David Fountain, a businessman based in Halifax, Nova Scotia who has upgraded through no less than three PC-12s. “There is no other aircraft in the world like the PC-12,” he notes. “The size, speed, range and the Swiss quality ofthe aircraft are exceptional, and it’s a joyto fly." The PC-12 is to be joined by the twinjet PC-24 which will be faster, but as a first-of-its-kind will retain the cargo facilities and unprepared field ability once it enters service. SAR is available as an option and aids in crew situational awareness during these critical missions. Optional equipment upgrades are now available for operators who pursue the latest software upgrade. The industry leading GWX 70 solid state radar offers significant improvements in capability, reliability and cost of ownership, compared to earlier generation magnetron-based weather radar systems. The GRS 7800 Attitude Heading and Reference System (AHRS) is also available as an optional equipment upgrade. The GRS 7800 enables free-gyro mode, greatly expanding the authorized area of operation up to North 84 degrees latitude. The number of Guimbal Cabri G2 helicopters operating in the UK increased to twelve at the end of March, with the arrival of serial number 1092 registered G-CILU. Andy Moorhouse of UK Guimbal importers Cotswold Helicopter Centre flew the aircraft back from the Hélicoptères Guimbal factory in Aix-en-Provence in southern France accompanied by a graduate of their flight training school.

The organizers of Heli UK Expo, in partnership with the Helicopter Club of Great Britain, are proud to announce the return of the Heli UK Challenge Cup.

Waypoint Leasing (“Waypoint”), one of the largest independent global helicopter leasing companies, announced in March that it has closed on a five year US$85 million (€81m), term loan facility led by Deutsche Bank AG. The company will use the proceeds to support its customers through the provision of further liquidity into the global helicopter market.

This special event will be taking place during all 3 days of Heli UK Expo, at Sywell Aerodrome, 29th – 31st May 2015. The Heli UK Challenge Cup features a series of Air Races organized in the UK. It is a crowd facing series of races where the spectator can watch some thrilling flying as helicopters race up and own parallel courses against the clock and speed is of essence!

"Dolphin Counting" Police aircraft in unusual mission

The constant growth of Airborne Technologies forms the basis for opening up new markets. Their recent project shows the variety of application possibilities of modern surveillance equipment. The objective of the job was to explore the dolphin population in the Black Sea. The project was issued by the Bulgarian Executive Environment Agency in order to provide scientific data in the sense of conservation. The full project`s name is “Filed observations of cetaceans Tursiops Truncatus, Phocoena Phocoena and Delphinus Delphis in the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Bulgaria”. The public procurement contract was awarded to Consortium “Black Sea Research Programme NOAH”. The project area of about 35.000 km² was divided into segments and flown over by Airborne Technologies` police demonstrator a Vulcanair P68 R, equipped with a Wescam MX10 gimbal in combination with a Churchill Augmented Reality System.

Mission Emulation...

This police surveillance configuration was perfectly suited for this project as the IR-Sensor was extremely helpful for the detection of the dolphins as well as the HD-Sensor for documentation purposes. The recording and geo-referenced documentation of the sighted dolphin groups was effected by the Churchill Augmented Reality System and allows subsequent counting and/or identification. Due to the used high definition optics even the identification of various species was possible.

UK’s - Suffolk police could turn to drones to cut helicopter costs

Axnes Aviation has announced its latest intercom product, with the introduction of its Polycon New Generation (PNG) Wireless intercom solution. After 3 years in development, the new PNG digital secure radio system will enable cordless intercom capability both in cabin and at line-of-sight range from the aircraft, ground vehicle or marine vessel. There is no other technology or direct competitor to PNG in the world today. The initial product launch is for the search and rescue (SAR) version of PNG, which will replace the existing Polycon system and add important features and functionality. Further developments in 2015 will include other versions tailored for military operations, EMS and cargo aircraft requirements among others. Axnes Aviation partners with Becker Avionics, Inc., based in Miramar, Florida, for sales, service and support of the product in North and South America. 

At the end of March, Bell announcedthat they had signed an agreement for the sale of four Bell 206L-4s to Air Medical Group Holdings (AMGH), one of the largest independent providers of helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) in the world. The aircraft will be operated by Air Evac Lifeteam for HEMS missions. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2016.

Suffolk police could use unmanned drones as an alternative to the expensive helicopter that is due to be moved from Wattisham Airfield in two years’ time. The proposal has been made by Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore in a bid to cut costs. The helicopter is provided by the National Police Air Service (NPAS) and currently covers Suffolk and Norfolk from its Wattisham base. However the costs to the police are high – Suffolk has to pay £800,000 a year for 250 hours of flights while Norfolk pays £360,000 for the same amount of time.

"It’s extremely important to give patients access to definitive healthcare and these aircraft will help us do just that,” said Seth Myers, president of Air Evac Lifeteam. “We are pleased to add the four Bell 206L-4s to our fleet.”

Mr Passmore told members of Suffolk County Council that he was seeking a reduction in this cost because it was such a drain on resources. He said: “If we could save £400,000 we could take on another eight police officers. We have to ask which is the best value for money?”


