Dear colleagues,
Welcome to Prague for WorldDAB Automotive 2024, and welcome also to our many members and friends who join us online.
It is my first Automotive event as President, and I am very much looking forward to an interesting and informative day. We have a fantastic line-up of expert speakers for you, coupled with great venues in a beautiful city.
I am pleased that we can once again bring together the automotive and broadcast sectors for this important event. This collaborative approach is critical for the future of broadcast digital radio.
We are delighted to be in Czechia this year, reflecting the exciting development of DAB+ broadcasting across the country for both public and private broadcasters, with coverage continuing to increase as new transmitters and multiplexes are launched.
We have other excellent stories to tell too. In Europe, RTVE in Spain launched DAB+ earlier this year, and it continues to roll out across new cities every month. After extensive growth in the last year, DAB+ coverage in France now reaches 60% of the population. Meanwhile, in Africa, Senegal has just launched its DAB+ pilot project in Dakar, and there are many exciting developments across Asia Pacific.
However, competition in the dashboard has never been greater. We know from our “Dashboard Dialogue” research last year that car buyers say broadcast radio remains an essential part of the in-car experience and is the most listened-to audio platform in the car. This means it is more important than ever that we all pull together to ensure that we keep DAB+ broadcast radio at the heart of the dashboard, coupled with the best possible user experience.
Our event today explores these important topics, and I thank our expert speakers who have come from around the world to share their knowledge with us today. I must also place on record my thanks to Bernie and the WorldDAB Project Office team, and to our local colleagues at Czech Radio, and the venues. Their hard work and commitment in producing such a special event is greatly appreciated.
Enjoy the day!
