1) A New Voice on Air in Nairobi Where: Nairobi, Kenya Partner: Association Radio Maria Kenya, Archdiocese of Nairobi In November 2019 a new station of Radio Maria Kenya was inaugurated in the capital city Nairobi. The station is located in Saint Peter Clavier Parish in the city center. The all Archdiocese participated to the project and its Archbishop His Eminence John Card. Ngue blessed the studio and celebrated Mass in the chapel of the station. The Cardinal had requested a station of Radio Maria in his archdiocese to spread the Good News and to accompany faithful during their daily activities through a radio. In fact in a busy city like Nairobi radio communication is quite effective to grant a constant presence to be companion of all those who need words of consolation and hope. This project saw the construction of the building hosting the headquarter of Radio Maria Kenya, the installation of the technical equipment and the training given to the personnel and the volunteers of the radio. Nairobi station is the headquarter of Radio Maria Kenya network. In fact Radio Maria Kenya is composed of three studios at the moment, and other will follow as more Dioceses are requesting for Radio Maria. The building in Nairobi will serve also the other Radio Maria stations in the country and in the East Africa region, as it has facilities for training courses and workshops.
2) Empowering the next generation of radio communicators Where:
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo Kigali, Rwanda – Lomé, Togo Partner: Marafiki wa Radio Maria, Association Radio Maria Congo DR, Radio Maria Rwanda, Pallotin Fathers, Association Radio Maria Togo “Saving Africa through Africans” used to say Saint Daniele Comboni when speaking of Evangelization in the youngest continent. Communication plays a big role in sensitization and material a spiritual growth of people. This project has the aim of training new radio communicators who can share the Good News and not fake news in the continent of hope as Saint John Paul II used to call Africa. Five training courses have been organized in Democratic Republic of Congo, in Rwanda, in Tanzania, in Togo. A total of 64 people coming from several African countries have been trained by WF experts. These communicators will be running radio programs and will train volunteers who will enrich the programs and the activities of their respective radios.

3) Integration through Evangelization Where: Lubumbashi, Kisangani, Matadi in Democratic Republic of Congo Partner: Association Radio Maria RDC, Archdiocese of Lubumbashi, Archdiocese of Kisangani, Diocese of Matadi Radio Maria Congo DR is the only Catholic national radio network in a country with more than 80 million people. Many Bishops are requesting for its signal in order for their faithful to be able not only to listen to daily inspirational and spiritual words but also to be integrated in the community of the Congolese Catholics. In a country which is almost as big as the whole Europe and is covered by the second largest rainforest in the world, there are no roads from one boarder to the other, the average income per person is among the lowest in the world. In such a country radio plays an essential role both in spreading news and as a means of formation for people. Congolese living in villages in rural and remote areas don’t have many means to participate to national events and life. Radio and mobile phones are the communication means through which they stay in touch with the rest of the country and the world. A lot training pass through the waives with radio programs designed to improve people life. This project intends to expand the network of Radio Maria Congo DR in the Archdioceses of Lubumbashi and Kisangani and in the Diocese of Matadi, by installing constructing and installing new studios and connecting them to the national network of Radio Maria with a satellite connection.
4) A Voice of Hope in the Ocean Where: Mindelo and Prahia in Cabo Verde Partner: Capuchin Friers, Diocese of Praia In the archipelago of Cape Verde (a country formed of 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean) this projects intends to support the Capuchin Friars by improving the performance of Radio Nova, the only Catholic radio they have been running for years and which covers 9 out of 10 islands. Technical and editorial changes will make this radio a real companion for those Capoverdians who need spiritual guidance, on-going formation on several aspect of their life. The Capuchins have done a wonderful job in making this radio one of the most listened in the country. They requested WF assistance to make the radio signal reach those areas which are not yet covered and to establish a studio in the capital city Praia where the Archdiocese has availed an apartment which will be the production center for this radio. At the moment in fact there is one studio in Mindelo in Sao Vicente island. Besides, the radio is assuring more participation in the programs by Parishes, schools and communities thanks to the use of mobile studios, which has the consequence also to boost integration of the Christian community within the country and also internationally thanks to the many links that Radio Nova activates with radios in other countries.

1) Promoting Humanity and Spiritual Healing via web Where: Gyumri and Yerevan in Armenia Partner: Radio Mariam Cultural Foundation In Armenia World Family of Radio Maria supports a local project at the service of marginalized people. It consists in a set of initiatives aimed at contrast alcohol addiction and abuse, violence within families, and spiritual and psychological support to prisoners. The approach consists in increasing awareness about the abuse and propose long lasting solutions that the beneficiaries can put in practice. Professional psychologists are helping prevent where it is possible and treat where necessary. A component of this project is focused on the psychological, social and spiritual healing of people convicted in prisons, that by participating to the activities start their social reintegration path which prepares them to return to the society with different mental and spiritual attitude. They have the opportunity to look at their own life in a different perspective comparing to the past and heal the internal wounds they have provoked to themselves harming others. They are invited to undertake a spiritual journey that by forgiving themselves will eventually bring them to ask for forgiveness from people they harmed within and outside their families and give a new spirit to old and new relationships.
2) A Bridge from Rome to the Middle East: The Art of Being a Community of Communities Where: Roma in Italy, Damasco, Aleppo in Siria, Cairo in Egypt, Amman in Jordan Partner: Association Peace and Reconciliation A network which offers spiritual, emotional and community support to Christian minorities in Siria and Egypt done by Radio Mariam a web radio based in Rome completely realized by Arabic speaking media professional and volunteers. With a cultural and spiritual involvement of communities in Damasco, Aleppo in Siria, Luxior and Cairo in Egypt, Amman in Jordan, and few more connections from Lebanon and Irak, the project aims at creating a network of Arabic speaking Christian communities that can enrich themselves by communicating their experiences and ideas. Such connection will help them grow not only in their faith but in the relationship with the culture around them. Sharing experiences opens the way one sees the world around himself/herself and offers new approaches and solutions that others have adopted elsewhere in similar occasions. The network of these communities is also an attempt to boost family spirit among the communities and to build opportunities of cooperation and contribute to the construction of a society of justice and peace in their respective countries.

1) Building Bridges between Age Groups Where: Bratislava, Slovakia Partner: Rรกdio Mรกria Slovensko Slovakia is experiencing a youth drain as many young people are living the country in search of better opportunities in terms of jobs and professional life. Many areas of the country are now inhabited mostly by aged people. In such a situation World Family of Radio Maria with local partners activated a project that with the use of web technologies intends to build a bridge between this two age groups that physically distant. Through a web radio young Slovakians who are abroad have the possibility to stay in touch with their mother land and vice versa. The platform that has been created gives the two age groups the possibility to communicate sharing not only information and ideas, but also moments of formation and recreation. Those abroad are connected to their home country in order to keep their cultural roots. Those in the country have the possibility to learn how their own culture interacts with others and what the result of such interaction is. The objective of this project is the preservation of local culture traditions and costumes to avoid their annihilation in the speed of a globalized modern communication.
2) The Culture serving the Community. Media Creations to improve Social Relations Where: Subotica in Serbia Partner: Udruzenje Rarija Culture is a vector for values. Good values can create better relationships in the communities. In Subotica, this project is promoting values like peace, coexistence, good neighborhood by investing in artistic and cultural creation. As Serbia was involved in the war that brought to the division of the ex-Yugoslavia in several countries, until today the economy has not taken off as hoped after the war. One of the consequences is that a lot of young people leave the country looking for better opportunities abroad. To contrast the drain of young people this project wants to use their creativity to realize audio cultural works which are used to disseminate in communities and in the society those values that improve relationships and consequently boost solidarity, unity and good neighborhood.

3) Richness in Differences. Community development through Interreligious Dialogue Where: Sarajevo and Mostar in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Pristina in Kosovo Partner: Udruga Radio Marija, Shoqata Radio Maria The Balkans were war theatre in the 90s. From the ashes of Yugoslavia new countries were formed with ancient peoples. In Bosnia and Kosovo the presence of different religious groups should not seen as a threat to building stable and peaceful nations, but a richness in the difference, to build multi-cultural societies which can enrich the people. This project in these two countries activated communication campaigns to increase the opportunities of encounter and dialogue between different religious groups also in view of slowing down the emigration of youths who are leaving their countries to look for opportunities abroad.

The activities where the youths are involved are mainly in radio and social communication realized in the studio and within communities in the periphery of the city. Through their active participation to the training activities and animation in parishes, schools and youth centers, they have the possibility to express their skills and creativity and they inspire their age mates from poor neighborhoods to aim at the better life.

“Keep always in mind that you offer something great and unique: Christian hope, which is much more than simple spiritual consolation because it is based upon the power of the Resurrection, witnessed to by faith and works of charity. Therefore, let us place under Mary’s protective mantle your Radio, the people and the families of those who work there, your plans for the future, and all your listeners. I bless all of you and your work”. Message from Pope Francis’ address to the World Family of Radio Maria given at the Vatican, 29 October 2015
