WELCOME H A C K I N G G A P S & C O N N E C T I N G 4 I M P A C T G L O B A L LY

WELCOME TO THE WSA GLOBAL CONGRESS 2022! WELCOME TO A JOURNEY AROUND THE GLOBE! LET´S CONNECT 4 IMPACT AND USE DIGITAL CREATIVITY TO LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND!

There

is much talk about the 'COVID connectivity boost' – and praise of its impact to accelerate the digital transition towards a climate-neutral, smart, and more inclusive world.

The WSA Board of Directors invites you to meet and join a unique community of purpose driven enthusiasts. I encourage you to leverage this unique network of people commitment to use ICT to hack the worldwide gaps.

However, many are left behind in the journey towards a digital world and social, economic, and cultural divides are deepening, not closing, whether it is lack of access to high-speed internet or new well performing devices, lack of digital literacy and of inclusiveness in product design or the mere lack of money.

WSA’s uniqueness arises from deep networking on a global level. And even if our event once more must happen online, we will not be stopped from creating long lasting and fruitful connections! With no visa restrictions or travel hassles, you will be able to enter an all-global journey of inspiration.

Thus, the continuous challenge is to bridge digital divides.

Thanks to Nora Wolloch and the WSA Team, the Global Congress presents an exceptional mix of local projects from which we can all learn wherever we are. This year’s WSA Global Congress program is full of interactivity and discussion, providing a stage for all. With the motto of Connect4Impact, you can dive into a community of people who want to evoke positive change through digital innovation.

WSA adds its own very special contribution in content driven applications and solutions to many other efforts. Our focus is on local innovations with potential global impact. WSA links the aspiration to use Digi Tech for the creation of a knowledge society to the achievements of the UN SDGs. The WSA Global Congress 2022 showcases the winners of the WSA21 global contest and invites you to act now, to connect4impact and to do so in a measurable manner in the context of the UN SDGs! Our questions are: How can digital content and interactive applications make a positive contribution? How can we leverage connectivity for collaboration and knowledge exchange? How can we use creativity and smart content to connect for impact? I welcome you to this year’s WSA Global Congress.

You will meet the 45 WSA21 Winners from 29 countries. They and their winning projects/products prove that content driven applications are enabling access to information, tackling environmental challenges, and fostering inclusion. From a Lebanese platform for educators built to serve the most vulnerable children in local communities suffering from weak internet connectivity, frequent blackouts, and poor digital skills to a business app from Ghana bridging the inclusivity gap for business owners in the informal sector, to a Cambodian mesh-grid solar power solution and Brazilian telemedicine for rural areas.

WSA awardees are impacting the daily lives of millions by meeting deeply rooted needs. They stand out in their ability to combine smart content, social goals, and digital innovation. For the past 19 years, WSA has relentlessly worked to foster knowledge transfer and to showcase the diversity of social impact driven digital development. Through its work, WSA has established itself with a proven record of accomplishment within the framework of the United Nations’ World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), mandated by the government of Austria 2003 and implementing the WSIS Plan of Action towards the year 2025. WSA is organised in collaboration with UN organisations such as UNESCO, UNIDO, UNCTAD, UNDESA and ITU. All of this is possible thanks solely to WSA’s unique global network of eminent national and corporate experts and the many NGOs, governments, and professional associations who partner with WSA. This strong network allows WSA to present quality content and digital innovation from over 185 UN member states. It supports a global movement for sustainable digital solutions. Open your mind, engage, and explore! The WSA Global Congress program lets you become part of a community of people who share with you the commitment to using digital technologies as innovative content drivers for the UN SDG’s. Let’s hack the gaps with the power of smart, digital, and social solutions. Connect4Impact! Prof. Dr. Peter A. Bruck Chairperson, on behalf of the WSA Board of Directors and the WSA Team

PATRON STATEMENTS

In

these challenging times as our world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, multidimensional crises and ongoing conflicts, the presence of young solutions-makers is more important than ever. Through youth-led solutions, young changemakers can help safeguard the recovery process and ensure our efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals get back on track. The perseverance of young people in delivering innovative solutions in times of global crises has time and time again demonstrated this generation's resiliency and leadership. It is critical for leaders and decision-makers from both the public and private sectors to acknowledge young people's expertise and to engage young solutions-makers as equal partners in recovery efforts. I encourage partners from across sectors to not only learn about youth-led solutions presented in the WSA Congress 2022 but also to help transform and scale these solutions on the ground." Jayathma Wickramanayake, UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth

Digitalization

is fundamentally changing the society and offers huge opportunities for the economy. As a global group of companies, with different branches under one umbrella, it is the undisputed driver when it comes to progress and innovation. Therefore, we need stimulus from within the company, where the Umdasch Group is working on new technologies with numerous projects and initiatives, but also from the outside. This is why we partner with the global WSA network – an excellent chance for us to get in contact with great minds and forward thinkers and open up to external ideas. Being part of this year's Josef Umdasch Research Prize, our company Doka – was putting its feelers out in search of innovative ideas that can make a key contribution to digitalization in shell construction. We are very much looking forward to the final pitches during the WSA Global Congress 2022.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

WSA 2021– 2030

Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

The 2030

Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

The UN SDGs are the metrics of success for digital content driven solutions and innovative applications The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all". [2] The SDGs, set in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and intended to be achieved by the year 2030, are part of UN Resolution 70/1, the 2030 Agenda.

8

The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs

The Goals and targets will stimulate action over the next fifteen years in areas of critical importance for humanity and the planet:

Preamble

People

Peace

Planet

Partnership

This Agenda is a plan of action for people, planet and prosperity. It also seeks to strengthen universal peace in larger freedom. We recognise that eradicating poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the greatest global challenge and an indispensable requirement for sustainable development. All countries and all stakeholders, acting in collaborative partnership, will implement this plan. We are resolved to free the human race from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and secure our planet. We are determined to take the bold and transformative steps which are urgently needed to shift the world onto a sustainable and resilient path. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and 169 targets which we are announcing today demonstrate the scale and ambition of this new universal Agenda. They seek to build on the Millennium Development Goals and complete what these did not achieve. They seek to realize the human rights of all and to achieve gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls. They are integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.

We are determined to end poverty and hunger, in all their forms and dimensions, and to ensure that all human beings can fulfil their potential in dignity and equality and in a healthy environment.

We are determined to protect the planet from degradation, including through sustainable consumption and production, sustainably managing its natural resources and taking urgent action on climate change, so that it can support the needs of the present and future generations.

Prosperity

We are determined to ensure that all human beings can enjoy prosperous and fulfilling lives and that economic, social and technological progress occurs in harmony with nature.

We are determined to foster peaceful, just and inclusive societies which are free from fear and violence. There can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development.

We are determined to mobilize the means required to implement this Agenda through a revitalised Global Partnership for Sustainable Development, based on a spirit of strengthened global solidarity, focussed in particular on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable and with the participation of all countries, all stakeholders and all people.

The interlinkages and integrated nature of the Sustainable Development Goals are of crucial importance in ensuring that the purpose of the new Agenda is realised. If we realize our ambitions across the full extent of the Agenda, the lives of all will be profoundly improved and our world will be transformed for the better.

ABOUT WSA Digital

Innovation has brought about rapid advancement, transforming the way societies function. Especially during the global pandemic digital innovation offered support and new solutions.

More than ever, the challenge is and remains worldwide to bridge global divides and to work on reaching the UN SDGs. Be it the global pandemic and new solutions for remote working, digital health and online education, or gender inequality, environmental challenges and the access to information and infrastructure. The global divides are manifold and affect us all. Reflecting the changes caused by the pandemic, with new economic challenges, or the case of climate crisis and global warming, we see that the divides grow nationally and worldwide. It´s high time to act now and hack the gap. In the face of such societal challenges, how can digital solutions and interactive applications make a positive contribution? How can international collaboration and knowledge exchange disrupt current nefarious developments? And what benefits are hidden in the digital transformation?

WSA Global Congress 2020 – Grand Jury Meeting

With its worldwide, multi-stakeholder community of social entrepreneurs and digital innovation enthusiasts, WSA focusses on international knowledge exchange, collaboration, and the contribution to the UN SDGs. JOSEF UMDASCH RESEARCH PRIZE 2022! #throwback: Last year’s happy winners SecurifAI from Romania. OUTCOME 117 registrations from 48 different countries ... 12 shortlisted ideas ... and 6 finalists

OUR JURY Consisting of members of Umdasch Group, experts from Doka and WSA

Digitalization in shell construction Digital technologies and solutions play a significant role in making construction sites more efficient and more productive. Digitalization is undisputedly one of the drivers when it comes to progress and innovation onsite. We at Doka are constantly on the lookout for new initiatives and creative approaches, which we use to advance construction and support our clients in their work. Our clients are mainly construction companies responsible for the largest and most complex construction sites in the world. Thousands of players who need to work together precisely to perfection.

In September 2021 we launched our call for ideas within the framework of the Josef Umdasch Research Prize. We called for ideas for digitalization in shell construction focusing on the fields of efficiency, safety and handling of material.

Doka is a world leader in developing, manufacturing and distributing formwork technology for use in all fields of the construction sector. It has more than 160 sales and logistics facilities in over 60 countries. As a part of the family owned Umdasch Group with a history of more than 150 years, Doka employs more than 7,300 people worldwide. About the Josef Umdasch Research Prize: The award has existed since 1990, and was relaunched in 2017. Since then, the Umdasch Group, together with the WSA, has been looking for technological innovations in the fields of construction and trade & commerce.

THE PRIZE The winner gets the opportunity to realise the idea with Doka

MORE INFORMATION ONLINE www.umdaschgroup.com/ researchprize

The Josef Umdasch Research Prize is aimed at start-ups, entrepreneurs and future-oriented thinkers around the globe who can inspire enthusiasm with an innovative and unique idea.

A jury decided upon a shortlist in December 2021. Those nominees are now further developing their ideas with supporting mentors from Doka and the WSA. The final pitch presentations will take place during the WSA Global Congress 2022. We are very excited and looking forward to creating a new fruitful partnership with the winner.
