»« The Blind Men and the Elephant Several citizens ran into a hot argument about God and different religions, and each one could not agree to a common answer. So they came to the Lord Buddha to find out what exactly God looks like. The Buddha asked his disciples to get a large magnificent elephant and four blind men. He then brought the four blind to the elephant and told them to find out what the elephant would „look“ like. The first blind men touched the elephant leg and reported that it „looked“ like a pillar. The second blind man touched the elephant tummy and said that an elephant was a wall. The third blind man touched the elephant ear and said that it was a piece of cloth. The fourth blind man hold on to the tail and described th elephant as a piece of rope. And all of them ran into a hot argument about the „appearance“ of an elephant. The Buddha asked the citizens: „each blind man had touched the elephant but each of them gives a different description of the animal. Which answer is right?“.

736 miles on the move 736 miles on the move could be a headline for the 8. European WonHwaDo Festival. When you consider that I spent more time in car than on the mats. Sometimes it’s not easy to take a break from your job and family. But finally I had nice experience with old and new friends at the festival.

Lühmann (Germany), master Jand Dzuris (Slovakia), master Han, Hyung Seok (Korea) and master Ryu, Chae Nam (Korea) were be held. During the training the members leraned about Kicking, throwing, locking and wrestle technics from different directions.

Recently about 20 people from Lithuania, Slovakia and Germany arrived at the sports school in Osterburg. Also two masters from Korea joined the festival. Well, everybody could imagine how much energy German WonHwaDo has to put in to have a wellorganized festival. At the end almost everybody was satisfied.

Let’s start from the beginning On June 3rd master Han, Hyong Seok and master Ryu, Chae Nam arrived from a really long journey from Seoul via Tokyo and Helsinki finally in Berlin. I took them from the airport and started to Osterburg sports school. The other participants had finshed their first training when the master cab from Berlin arrived. After a short hello and the rooming there was first meeting Also a lecture about the meaning of the with discussion about the development of WonHwaDo symbol and the dobok was given by WonHwaDo. master Han. The next few days always started with morning exercise and after that lectures by master Jörn 3

Master Jan showed the flowing movement and Association and Date will be in July/August 2015. motions inside of WonHwaDo and master Jörn More information will be published as the come out. taught special technics from grappling. Recently everybody could enlarge his knowledge about WonHwaDo and we hope his understanding about WonHwaDo could be even bigger through the festival.

Finally I’d like to say a big thank you to the organizers from the festival in Germany and also a big bow to the masters who taught and as well the participants. Without them we couldn’t have such a nice festival. At the last evening there was a leader meeting again and all masters and instructors discussed about the new webpage for World WonHwaDo federation and the development of the World federation.

With this in mind we looking much forward to see you next year in Slovakia and we try to understand more about our beautiful martial art WonHwaDo.

It was a really grueling discussion about the development but finally a compromise could be made because everybody agreed that the international organizations like to support the World WonHwaDo Federation. More details about the decisions which were made in Osterburg you could find inside the protocol from the meeting inside this magazine. Also the place for the next European WonHwaDo Festival has been decided. The 9. European WonHwaDo festival will be held in Slovakia organzied by the Slovakian WonHwaDo

Korean Table Manners A list of basic rules of Korean dining etiquette. Politeness is very important to Koreans. There is a lot of value on family meals and drinks. Although some of the older traditions have been relaxed in recent years, the list of Korean table manners etiquette ist still in use today. (1) Set Wait until the oldest person is sitting down before taking your seat at the table. (2) Before the meal Before beginning with the food, especially in someone’s home, it is polite to say that you look forward to the meal. In Korean, the People say: „Jalmukesumnida“, which means: “I’ll eat well“. (3) Beginning of the meal Wait until the oldest person has raised her spoon or chopsticks before you start eating. © Jens Korallus / pixelio.de

(4) During the meal Your never clean your nose at the table! (5) The pace Try to eat at the same time as all others. Here also follow to the older person. (6) Soup and rice bowls During the meal, please don’t keep the bowls with soup or rice. (7) Double Dipping Korean meals have many municipal side dishes. But please touch into these bowls as less as possible. (8) Refill glass Please always fill the glasses of others the first. Again, the oldest person has priority. (9) Alcohol is offered It’s not considered polite to refuse a alcoholic drink, especially from the hand of an elderly person. (10) Accepting food or drink If an older person offers alcohol or a side dish to you, please take the cup with both hands in reception. Source: GermanKorean Foundation
