Identify Having a Total Water Management approach permits us to evaluate the water impacts on critical decisions early on in the lifecycle and ensures technical, financial and economic viability throughout the asset life-cycle. Customers work with our Water Solutions consultants to plan and develop an integrated water supply, use and re-use, and disposal management strategy. Scoping studies identify the community and social issues early on in the development, assess regulatory risk, recognise waste disposal, technology options, and provide a whole of lifecycle cost analysis for the purchase, transportation and treatment of water. This establishes the business case.

Define Our water services are often a key tenet of the broader project and form part of the bankable feasibility study to achieve financial closure. This incorporates the key elements of a water risk assessment, as well as design, cost estimates, vendor recommendations, and contracting and commercial models for the supply of water facilities. At the define stage of the life-cycle our teams deliver services such as groundwater exploration and development, as well as the preliminary design of civil and hydraulic structures, process design, water pipelines and other distribution networks. Life-cycle costs are further tested and optimization criteria applied.

Southern Seawater Desalination Plant Customer Southern Seawater Alliance (SSWA) Location Binningup, Western Australia phase
The Southern Seawater Desalination Project involved the delivery and design of a 320 ML/day seawater desalination plant. Particular features of this plant were the high focus on operational aspects and sustainability.
Our Services The project was delivered in an Alliance framework. WorleyParsons provided all engineering disciplines required to deliver the design and was extensively involved in plant construction and commissioning.
Innovations • Micro-tunnelling for the seawater inlet and brine discharge pipes. • Membrane filtration as the method for pre-treatment. • Split-hybrid membrane loading configurations - reduced operating pressure of the first pass reverse osmosis system. • Reverse osmosis racks designed from scratch eliminating all fabrication and operational (leaking) issues. • Unique reverse osmosis building and piping layoutspecifically developed to limit pump noise in the membrane area.
Key Achievements • Awarded ‘International Desalination Plant of the Year - 2012’ by the International Desalination Association • Delivered the first large plant in the world to use membrane filtration as a method of pre-treatment
