Certificate in Counselling Studies Level 3 Fast Track When do I start studying for this qualification? Wednesday 4th September 2019 For how long will I study? 18 weeks Course ends 22nd January 2020. Exam 20th January 2020 Wednesday, 9am-3.00pm. Click here for college term dates. How much will it cost? £899.00 (tuition fee £730 + CPCAB registration £169). To secure your place on the course a non- refundable deposit of £250 will be payable within two weeks of being made an offer to study on the course. Interview dates are: Monday 8th April & Tuesday 7th May 2019. What is this course about? The CST-L3 Counselling studies course is for those students who have successfully completed the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and wish to increase their knowledge and practice of counselling theory and skills. The certificate in Counselling studies is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge and

skills required for progression to practitioner training as a professional counsellor. This course leads towards the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling however; you may want to use the skills and understanding you gain in a workplace or volunteering situation. What topics will I study? The course is “experiential” and you will learn by working together with peers and the tutors as well as in personal reading and study. The learning outcomes are: 1. Prepare and work within an ethical framework for counselling relationships. 2. Understand the counselling relationship. 3. Understand the difference and diversity issues to develop empathic understanding. 4. Work within a user-centred approach to counselling. 5. Use counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice. 6. Understand theories of counselling and mental health. 7. Use feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies.


How will my work be assessed? Students will experience a variety of assessment methods designed to support your experience on the course. These include journal writing, presentations, essay writing, case study, personal reflection, practical skills assessment and an externally marked examination paper. Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (see overleaf) How to apply To apply for a place on this course applications must be received via our on-line portal by Friday 15th April 2019. www.worthing.ac.uk/ application Tuition Fees and Payments Tuition Fee £896* You will be invited to an interview and once you’ve been accepted onto the course you will be expected to pay a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of £250.00, to secure your place on this course. The payment date for your deposit will be outlined in your

individual offer email and failure to pay this by the required date will result in your place on the course being forfeited. You may apply for a student loan for this course up to a value of £811. Where your application for a student loan is successful we will refund you £162 of your deposit. If you should not be successful or you decide to self-fund your tuition fee in total you will then be expected to pay the remaining balance of £649 on the following dates: •£325.00 on the day you enrol on the 4th September •£324.00 by 30th November 2019 Payments can be made by credit/ debit card, cash cheque or via a BACS payment. Attending your Enrolment appointment You will be expected to attend an enrolment appointment Friday 4th September 2019 between 8-9am to formally be enrolled onto the course and your individual appointment will be advised to you in your offer letter.



Whats Next? Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling What is this course about? The TC-L4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling courses is for students who have successfully completed the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies and wish to progress in their learning and personal development towards practicing as a counsellor. This course will provide you with the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency setting. The theoretical model of the course is integrative; person centred theory, transactional analysis, Clarkson’s 5 relationship model and Bowlby’s attachment theory. As you develop your knowledge and understanding of these theories, you will be encouraged to find an affinity with your particular approach. There will be an emphasis on integrating your knowledge of theory and skills to develop the therapeutic relationship. Professional conduct, diversity and ethical practice will also be developed.

What topics will I study? You will be in college one day a week from 9:00-3:00. You are required to have a counselling placement where you will conduct a minimum of 100 supervised hours. The course requires you to have a minimum of 40 hours personal therapy to be completed by the end of the first year. As this is an “experiential” course and you will learn by working together with peers and the tutors. You will need to allow 8-10 hours per week personal reading and study. You will need to be willing to develop your self-awareness so that you can explore your own life experiences and personality. There are seven learning outcomes: 1. Working ethically, safely and professionally as a counsellor. 2. Working within a counselling relationship. 3. Working with client diversity in counselling work. 4. Working within a user centred approach to counselling. 5. Working with self-awareness in counselling process. 6. Working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills. 7. Working self-reflectively as a counsellor


The Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling provides: 1. A coherent vocational and professional counselling training. 2. A competence based training which highlights the development of skilled practice via experiential learning. 3. Specific training for the role of counsellor in an agency. 4. Opportunity to learn a wide range of theories and approaches.

These include, journal writing, presentations, essay writing, case study, personal reflections, practical skills assessments and an externally marked examination paper based on your own practice session with a peer.
