Course Entry Requirements This document lists minimum entry requirements for courses at Worthing College. However, many students will achieve GCSE grades well above these entry requirements. Applicants to Worthing College are encouraged to aspire for the highest possible grades at GCSE to boost their chances of performing well at college and to secure their progression, be it in employment, an apprenticeship or higher education.
A Level and Level 3 Vocational Courses (BTEC, CAMTEC or similar) The minimum entry requirement for Level 3 courses is normally five GCSEs at grades 4-9.
Business Finance & Economics Business A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including grade 4 in English Language.
Economics A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including grade 5 or above in Maths and a grade 4 in English Language.
Business CAMTEC
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, or a Business BTEC Level 2 Certificate.
Financial Studies You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a minimum LIB&F grade 4 in Maths and English Language.
English English Language A Level English Language & Literature A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 5 in English Language.
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 4 in English Language and Literature.
English Literature A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 5 in English Literature.
Geography & Environmental Science Geography A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including grade 4 in English and 4 in Mathematics.
Environmental Science A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including grade 4 in Mathematics, Science and English.
Health & Social Care Health & Social Care CAMTEC (Single)
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C.
Health & Social Care CAMTEC (Triple)
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C. Additionally, for the Nursing and Midwifery Pathway, you must have a 4 in GCSE Science.
History, Politics & Law History A Level
You need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a grade 4 in English Language.
Law A Level
You need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a grade 4 in English Language.
Politics A Level
You need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a grade 4 in English Language.
Applied Law BTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 4 in a written subject, such as English Language, History or Media Studies.
Languages, Travel & Tourism French A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 6 or above in French (all papers at Higher Tier) and a grade 4 in English Language.
Spanish A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 6 or above in Spanish (all papers at Higher Tier) and a grade 4 in English Language.
Travel & Tourism BTEC
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C.
Maths & Computer Science Computer Science A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including grade 6 in Mathematics.
Further Mathematics A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including 7 in Maths.
Mathematics A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 6 or a B grade in Maths.
Information Technology CAMTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9.
Statistics A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including grade 5 in Mathematics or Statistics and a grade 4 in English.
Performing Arts Dance A Level Drama & Theatre Studies A Level Music A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C.
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C.
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including a grade 4 in Music GCSE or a grade 5 in Music Theory plus an audition.
Creative and Performing Arts RSL
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C., Level 2 Extended Certificate at Merit or Distinction level, or related experience in the creative and performing arts. You will also need to demonstrate a real passion for the performing arts and a desire for musical theatre.
Music Practitioner RSL
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9..
Science Biology A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including double 6 in Science GCSE, or 6 in Biology plus another 6 in a single Science and grade 5 in Mathematics.
Chemistry A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including double 6 in Science GCSE, or 6 in Chemistry plus another 6 in a single Science and grade 6 in Mathematics.
Physics A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a minimum of grade 6 in higher tier GCSE Mathematics and either a 6 in GCSE Physics plus a 6 in one other science, or 6,6 from higher tier GCSE Combined Science.
Electronics A Level
You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 5 or above in GCSE Maths and two grade 5s in GCSE Science.
Applied Science CAMTEC (Single)
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including double 4 in Science and 4 in Mathematics.
Applied Science CAMTEC (Double)
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including double 4 in Science and 4 in Mathematics.
Engineering CAMTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a minimum of a grade 5 in GCSE Maths, along with 5-4 in GCSE combined Science.
Social Science Psychology A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including grade 4 in Mathematics, 4 in English and a 4 in Science.
Sociology A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 4 in English Language.
Applied Psychology BTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a grade 4 in Maths and English Language.
Criminology WJEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including grade 4 in English.
Public Services (Social Science) BTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9.
Sports & Physical Education Physical Education A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 5 in Science. You will also need to be able to perform one sport to a high level.
Sport BTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9.
Sport & Exercise Science BTEC (Double)
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including a grade 4 in Science.
Sport & Science BTEC (Triple)
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 4-9, including a grade 4 in Science.
Visual Arts Film Studies A Level
You need to have a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a grade 4 in English Language.
Fine Art A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including Art and Design. Students who do not have Art and Design GCSE will be invited to college to do a short practical task before being accepted on the course.
Graphic Communication A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*- C, including Art and Design or Graphics. Students who do not have Art and Design or Graphics GCSE will be invited to college to do a short practical task before being accepted on the course.
Media Studies A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C including a grade 4 in English Language.
Photography A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C. You will also be asked to bring evidence of your interest in photography to your enrolment interview.
Textile Design A Level
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including Art and Design or Textiles. Students who do not have Art and Design or Textiles GCSE will be given a short research and practical task to complete before being accepted on the course.
Digital Media CAMTEC
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*- C.
Level 2 Courses
Our Level 2 vocational courses are at the same level as GCSE. The minimum entry requirement for Level 2 courses is two GCSEs at grade 3. Some Level 2 courses have additional entry requirements, listed below.
Level 2 Applied Science BTEC
You need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3, including Science grade 3 or Maths grade 3.
Art & Design BTEC
You will need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 and an interest in Art and Design.
Business Studies BTEC
You will need a minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade 3.
English GCSE
You will need a minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade 3.
Mathematics GCSE
You will need a grade 3 in GCSE Maths or a Level 1 pass in Maths Functional Skills. If you achieve a grade 4 In GCSE Mathematics at school then you may also wish to join this course in order to improve to a grade 5 or above.
Sport BTEC
You will need a minimum of two grade 3s at GCSE and be able to demonstrate a real passion and interest for sport.
Travel & Tourism City & Guilds Level 2
You will need a minimum of two GCSEs at grade 3 to start this course.
Others English For Speakers of Other Languages Skills for Life Entry 2 and 3 English For Speakers of Other Languages ESOL Progression
No formal qualifications are required to take this subject. Ideally you will have completed or be working towards Entry level 1 at ESOL before starting the course. Your level of English will be tested to make sure you are in the right ESOL group. No formal qualifications are required to take this subject. We will test your level of English at the beginning of the year to make sure you are in the right ESOL group. You will be required to attend all classes on the course to show your commitment to study ESOL.
