When do I start studying for this qualification? Wednesday 23rd September 2020. For how long will I study? 30 weeks until 26th May 2021. Wednesday evenings 6.00-9.00pm. Exam date TBC Saturday Workshop 14th November 2020 9.00am-3.00pm How much will it cost? £539 tuition fees plus £167* CPCAB fee (* the CPCAB fee is based on the 2019 fee and is subject to a small increase in April 2020). To secure a place on the course, a £200 non-refundable deposit will be payable within ten working days of being offered a place on the course. What is this course about? On this course, you will learn how to use listening and counselling skills for a variety of different contexts for example, in the workplace or in volunteering. You will learn practical skills and competencies to be able to use counselling skills ethically and safely to help others as part of the first stage in professional counselling training. You will also learn a great deal about yourself.

What topics will I study? The course is “experiential”. This means you will learn by “doing”. You will learn by working together with your peers, your tutors as well as in personal study. The 7 learning outcomes are: • Using counselling skills ethically and safely • Establishing and sustaining the boundaries of the helping role • Working empathically as a helper • Focusing on the helper’s needs and concerns • Using self-awareness in helping work • Using a range of counselling skills to facilitate the helping interaction • Using feedback and reflection to enhance counselling skills How will my work be assessed? You will experience a variety of assessment methods designed to support your evidence on the course. These include journal writing, taped assignments, personal reflections, practical skills assessments and an externally marked examination paper.


What skills and interests do I need beforehand to be a successful applicant for this course? There are no entry requirements or previous training. You must be at least 19 years of age to start the course. What can you do next? After completion of Level 2, students may progress to Level 3 Certificate in Counselling studies. See further details below. How to apply To apply for a place on this course applications must be received via our on-line portal by the closing date of Friday 19th June 2020. Course Fees and Payments £706* (* price quoted using CPCAB registration fee based on the 2019 fee, i.e. £539 tuition fee + £167 CPCAB fee which is subject to increase). You will be invited to an interview and once you have been accepted onto the course you will be expected to pay a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit of £200 to secure your place on this course. The payment date for your deposit will be outlined in your individual offer email and failure to pay this by the required date will result in your place on the course being forfeited. The remaining course fees, a balance of £506*, will be payable in full or on the day you enrol or you can pay via the following payment structure. However please note that all course fees are non-refundable once you

have enrolled. * £250 payable on the day you enrol (Tuesday 8th September 2020) either by credit/debit card, cash cheque or by BACS in advance of the 21st August 2020. The two remaining payments can only be made by direct debit. * £128 by direct debit on 1st November 2020 * £128 by direct debit on 1st December 2020. Attending your Enrolment appointment You will be expected to attend an enrolment appointment on the 8th September 2020 to be formally enrolled onto the course. You will be able to enrol anytime between 8am - 10am on this day so please put this in your calendar if you are offered a place. What’s Next? Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies What is this course about? The CST-L3 Counselling studies course is for those students who have successfully completed the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and wish to increase their knowledge and practice of counselling theory and skills. The certificate in Counselling studies is designed to give learners the underpinning knowledge and skills required for progression to practitioner training as a professional counsellor. This course leads


towards the Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling however; you may want to use the skills and understanding you gain in a workplace or volunteering situation. What topics will I study? The course is “experiential” and you will learn by working together with peers and the tutors as well as in personal reading and study. The learning outcomes are: • Prepare and work within an ethical framework for counselling relationships. • Understand the counselling relationship. • Understand the difference and diversity issues to develop empathic understanding. • Work within a user-centred approach to counselling. • Use counselling theory to develop self-awareness in counselling practice. • Understand theories of counselling and mental health. • Use feedback, reflection and supervision to support counselling studies. How will my work be assessed? Students will experience a variety of assessment methods designed to support your experience on the course. These include journal writing, presentations, essay writing, case study, personal reflection, practical skills assessment and an externally marked examination paper.
