What is this course about? The course aims to develop your understanding of the language and culture of France and other French speaking countries.
Paper 1: Listening, reading and writing - Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
What topics will I study? 1. Social issues and trends: • The changing nature of family: family & relationships • The ‘cyber-society’: Internet, social medial, technology • The place of voluntary work • Positive features of a diverse society • Life for the marginalized • How criminals are treated • Positive aspects of diversity • Life of marginalised people • Crime and prevention 2. Artistic and political culture: • A culture proud of its heritage • Contemporary francophone music • Cinema: the 7th art form • Teenagers, the right to vote and political commitment • Demonstrations, strikes – who holds the power? • Politics and immigration
Paper 3: Speaking - Duration: 15 minutes
Paper 2: Writing - Duration: 2 hours
What skills and interests do I need beforehand to be a successful applicant for this course? An interest in France and French speaking countries culture and society is very important. A willingness to express yourself orally is essential. What skills will I need to develop during the course to succeed? You will need to develop good independent study skills. You will need to develop your skills in listening, reading and translating as well as expressing yourself orally or in writing.
Are there any specific entry requirements? You need a minimum of five GCSEs at 9-4 or A*-C, including a grade 6 or above in French (all papers at Higher Tier) and a grade 4 in English Language. What are the lessons like? A range of teaching and learning styles is used during the course and the lessons are very varied. In order to practise the five language skills you will work individually, in pairs and in groups at different times. You will spend about half your lesson time in the language laboratory, completing listening exercises, speaking tasks, working on-line and word-processing written work. 1:1 support is available to all students. What have I got to do in order to do well? • Complete your weekly homework on time and to the best of your ability. • Work consistently and thoroughly. • Correct your work regularly and learn from what you have done. • Work independently to consolidate your knowledge. What do people do with A Level French? French is a recognised academic subject and therefore is an excellent preparation for higher education in languages as well as a number of other areas such as Business, Law, and European Studies. Past students can be also be found in media, journalism and tourism. It is the necessary background for careers in teaching French at both primary and secondary levels. Students with language qualifications are really sought after by employers and this is reflected in enhanced salaries.

The course aims to develop your understanding of the language and culture of Spain and other Spanish speaking countries. What topics will I study? 1. Social issues and trends: • Modern and traditional values: family, relationships • Cyberspace :Internet, social medial, technology • Equal rights: women in the workplace, feminism, and gay rights. • Multiculturalism in Hispanic society: Immigration, Racism, Integration 2. Political and artistic culture: • Modern day idols • Spanish regional identity • Cultural heritage • Today’s youth, tomorrow’s citizens • Monarchies and dictatorships • Popular movements

There is a wide choice of degree courses focusing on various aspects of Spanish studies, combined degrees such us Business and Spanish, Law and Spanish, and European Studies, which combines cultural, social and language studies. A year studying in a Spanish speaking country usually forms part of the degree course. Past students can be found in Media, Journalism, Tourism. A Level Spanish is the necessary background for careers in teaching Spanish at both primary and secondary education. Students with language

When do I start studying for this qualification? September 2020. For how long will I study? For two years. What is this course about? By investigating different areas of travel and tourism the course gives you a broad knowledge and understanding of the travel & tourism industry. What topics will I study? • The World of Travel and Tourism (Externally assessed) • Global Destinations (Externally assessed) • Principles of Marketing • Visitor Attractions • The UK as a Destination (Externally assessed) • Managing the Customer Experience • Travel and Tourism EnterprisesLeisure & Corporate Travel • Preparing for Employment in Travel & Tourism How will my work be assessed? The course is made up of eight units. Five are internally assessed and three are externally assessed.
The internal assessments are set and marked by teachers and the external assessments are marked by the exam board. The final grade awarded will be a combination of all eight units. All external assessments are mandatory and a Pass or above must be achieved. What skills and interests do I need beforehand to be a successful applicant for this course? You will not need any prior knowledge of the travel & tourism industry, but a willingness to learn and an interest in the travel industry are essential. What skills will I need to develop during the course to succeed? Good time management skills, an ability to work independently and enthusiasm for coursework are essential. Are there any specific entry requirements? You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at A*- C grade (or equivalent). What are the lessons like? We use a wide range of teaching methods throughout the course including presentations,
discussions, group work and lots of independent research. As much of the course is coursework based, you will often be working on assignments during lessons. You will also do role-plays and practical work developing a range of vocational skills. 1:1 support is available to all students. You need to complete all work set, keep up to date, listen, participate and attend all lessons.
Are there any other qualifications which combine particularly well with this one? This is equivalent to 2 A Levels so you would normally combine it with 1 other A Level or equivalent. Experience has shown a very wide range of combinations to be successful. What do people do with BTEC Level 3 Travel and Tourism? Previous students have obtained employment at airports working for airlines and ground staff. Some are working within various tour operators in the UK. Others have found employment on management training schemes in the hospitality industry. Many students choose to go onto higher education to study a range of tourism related degrees. Students have also progressed into careers not directly related to the travel industry. These have included law, teaching, finance and the general business sector. Additional Information about this course You will have a work experience week in each year which is a compulsory element of the course and will provide the evidence for one of the units you will study. There are a range of day trips linked to units studied in both years and the possibility of an overseas residential trip in each year. Traditional lessons.
