Little Eggs This month We will be welcoming Connie and Maisie into Little Eggs and we look forward to them joining in with all the fun. The Queen’s official birthday is coming up and we will be celebrating by making some beautiful flower pictures. As well as this, Father’s day is soon and we will be making our wonderful daddies a lovely gift! Lots of babies are beginning to walk independently, so we are hoping to get out on summer walks so we can all start to notice changes in the environment.

Acknowledgements It will be Nicole’s last day with us before she goes on maternity leave! This will be Friday the 22nd of June!

Other bits and bobs We have just updated our individual routine charts. Please let us know of any other changes to these. We want to follow your children’s home routines as much as we can at Nursery.

Ideas for home Have a wonderful time celebrating Father’s day! Please encourage your babies to wear their hats when the sun comes out. This will help them to wear them when they are with us.

Caterpillars This month We will be taking the children’s interests of colour and numbers to explore with. We will be using blocks, rhymes with props and everyday objects to count with along with colour mixing, mark making and experiments to promote recognition of colour. We will be exploring natural colours in our environment and use it to create natural art! Celebrating the Queen’s birthday will be happening this month! We will throw her a birthday party, as well as making Father’s day cards/presents leading up to Father’s day on the 17th.

Acknowledgements We would like to welcome Sophie from Little Eggs as well as Oliver and Arla. Cat and Rhia will be cycling 54 miles on the 17th of June. Donations would be really appreciated. (www.justgiving.com/cycle-ops123)

Other bits and bobs The weather is getting warmer but can also change dramatically through the day. So could we please bring spare clothes with us, even if it is looking sunny when you arrive! We had a wonderful trip up the Downs, finding and hunting bugs in the grass and under logs.

Ideas for home Create your own natural art work to display in the garden on our sticky paper. This way you can encourage language with words inside of colour, shape and numbers.

Blossom This month We will enjoy putting some of our art work on our summer display and using our literacy display of superworm to introduce the children to minibeasts.

This will also include planting some summery flower seeds and looking after our herb garden. We’ll use the College grounds and continue to all love being outside. Some of the children have already had a visit into the Butterfly Room, starting to think about their summer transitions.

Acknowledgements We have some lovely friendships forming in Blossom. Well done to everyone! Goodbye and Good luck to Adam who left us in May.

Other bits and bobs We are asking parents to remind children to leave toys from home on the shelf if possible. Naming hats so they don’t get mixed up would be very useful. Also, please ensure that shoes are suitable for running around, Forest School and trips around the nature trail.

Ideas for home Plant some vegetables and visit the fruit and vegetable section of the supermarket. Try and see what ones you can name and what ones you haven't seen before. We now have a fruit of the week in the Blossom Room. You could take a photo of our menus and maybe try some at home!

Butterflies This month We will be sharing our holidays together and looking at where different places are around the world. We’ll be asking the children what places they liked going to and focusing on their ideas, so this could be a very fun-filled month. This will include celebrating how special our dads are, with some handmade gifts and special tea. We will continue the Royal Celebration theme by celebrating the Queen’s Official Birthday. In some activities we will be organising the children into school leavers and non-school leavers to enable the children who are leaving to gain some independence and new skills to help prepare for the transition to school. As well as this, we will also be having a lot of the children’s new Acknowledgeteachers come in to visit them. We will let you know individually ments of dates and times as and when we know. (Please be aware that Welcome to Jessica who not all schools do this) will be joining Butterflies, Other bits and bobs we look forward to having you join in the fun. Important dates– Thursday 14th June is the father’s day tea. Wed 20th June is the Washbrook farm trip. Barnaby Bear has now got some new friends who love going on holiday with the children in Butterflies.

Thank you to everyone for making Donna’s 50th so special!

Ideas for home Bring in any photos of recent holidays with the children to be able to talk to their friends about their trips. For the school leavers, try to encourage more independence of taking their own clothes on and off. Also, look out for summer fares at their new schools. This is a great introduction to a new school!

Forest School We will be taking groups out to the area to enjoy our theme of ‘forts and fairies’. This will involve making fortresses/fairy lands and using our imaginations as well as small world toys.

This will also include making fantasy creatures out of clay and decorating with forest fauna. We will also be enjoying hot chocolate and hot snacks that have been cooked on the fire.

Other bits and bobs Please can children wear sensible footwear in the summer months at Forest School—for example trainers. Jelly shoes, flip flops, sandals and crocs are not safe or practical. We are always looking for logs for the fire so if you know of a cheap or free source then please speak to Sarah.

Acknowledgements Sarah Camp is excited to become the new Forest School manager as we say a big farewell to Rea!

Ideas for home The pound shop sells muffin tins and pots and pans for some outdoor fun! The ‘Pick your own’ is now open to choose some of your own delicious produce. Involving your child in vegetable and fruit picking is great for encouraging them to cook and eat them, as well as learning where they come from. The free tractor ride is also great fun.
