Little Eggs This month We will be spending more time outside in the garden as the weather is starting to improve. Please read our sun cream email to find out more information on your child using sun cream whilst at Nursery. During May we will be creating beautiful paintings whilst in our creative/messy play week. We will be going out onto the field more to explore and to improve our walking skills!

Acknowledgements Congratulations to Oliver who’s recently become a big brother! Also a big welcome to our new children; Mia, Charlotte, Jacob and Jaxon. They have settled so well into our room and we are excited to have them!

Other bits and bobs Please inform us of changes to your child’s routine. Lots of our babies are transitioning to just one sleep at Nursery, but we are very happy to accommodate these changes. You can do this by emailing or letting one of the room staff know during drop off or pick up.

Ideas for home Maybe use some old scrap paper, or old wallpaper to draw or paint outside on a nice day. See what pictures your child can create with coloured crayons and paint whilst out on a sunny day.

Caterpillars This month This month, Caterpillars will be focussing on ‘minibeasts’. We will be making a bug hotel, exploring the insects that live under logs, in our courtyard and Forest School. We will develop a number of skills by counting the bugs’ legs and we will be creating pictures with a variety of materials that we will find along the way. Our discovery tray will be filled with a variety of insects for us to explore, and we will be making sweet water for the butterflies to drink.

Other bits and bobs This month we will be taking a trip up the Downs to observe local wildlife and plants, work on our physical skills and to enjoy our packed lunch with a view!

Ideas for home Look in your garden at home for minibeasts and count how many legs they have. Maybe talk about the environment that they live in. Read ‘What the ladybird heard’ to encourage an interest in books.

Blossom This month In Blossom we will be enjoying our first fruit of the week! So far, plum and mango has been tried, to encourage our children to try new flavours. We have planted lavender, rosemary, oregano, mint and carnations and look forward to watering them and watching them grow. We have loved the hot weather but always need a zipup for the garden! Also, socks and shoes to run in. This month, we will be seeing the farm animals, talking about the changes in the weather and looking forward to seeing the Summer season!

Acknowledgements Thank you to everyone who attended our workshop and all the hard working staff for creating useful and informative displays.

Other bits and bobs We love to hear news! Holidays, baby news, or even children who are moving house. Every child is unique and anything you want to share with us would be great. Please keep us updated about your child’s interests so we can share them at the Nursery! We love family photos for our displays. If you haven't brought in any before, please bring in 1 or 2, or email the Nursery and we will print them off!

Ideas for home Visit a garden centre or an aquatic centre. Look out for tadpoles and soon ‘Pick your own’ will be open for a tractor ride. Choose a hat they like to wear in the sun and sing some nursery rhymes to encourage memory and rhythm.

Butterflies (Date for your diary—July 19th—School Leaver’s Party) This month In Butterflies we will be continuing our ‘Under the sea’ theme and are going to create some more sea creatures! Some children will be going on a trip to the fish shop by Sainsbury’s, and we will be using our sewing skills to make shells. We will be continuing to watch our tadpoles grow into frogs and then will find new homes for them. We will be focussing on the story ‘Shark in the Park’ Including lots of fun shark activities, such as making shark teeth, playing shark games and taking a visit to the park to see what a shark

Acknowledgements Thank you for everybody who came to the workshop. As well as a big congratulations to Indie on becoming a big sister, to baby brother Cohen!

Other bits and bobs We would like you to discourage the children, who are soon leaving for school, from bringing in toys from home to make the children more independent. We now have a holiday bear called Barnaby who has his own Passport. If you are going on holiday, he would love to come too! Please let any Butterfly staff know if you would like to bring him along for company. (He is only small)

Ideas for home Go on a walk to your local pond and see what creatures are there. Can you find any frogs? Maybe see how many different shells you can find on the beach!

Forest School April has been busy in Forest School with the holiday club. With all the wet weather the Forest School has finally started to dry up. The children have been enjoying bug hunts, physical games, digging, den building and having tea in the Forest. We have also been on the nature trail lots and have enjoyed looking at the trees and doing tree rubbings. This month all the children in butterflies and blossom will be having a fire session in forest school where we will cook either lunch or tea on the fire. The groups are displayed in the individual rooms.

Other Bits and Bobs We are looking to open our own mud kitchen, so if anybody has any old pots, pans, muffin tins or utensils that they would like to donate, we will be collecting from the beginning of May.

Ideas for Home Take the children around the garden or local park on a bug hunt. It is amazing what you can find under stones and logs.
