Little Eggs This month We welcome Isobel to Little Eggs! This month we will be doing lots of Autumn based activities; playing with leaves, leaf painting and getting creative for Halloween, as well as walks around the local area to look at the changing colours and spotting new animals. We will also be welcoming and getting to know our new friends!

Acknowledgements Well done Shannon who has completed the first part and is attending the second part this month; ‘Promoting Positive Behaviour’ training.

Other bits and bobs Please send or bring in family photos so that we can display them for the children in the room. Please remember to label belongings.

Ideas for home Family walks to explore the woods, fields and sea during this Autumn time.

Caterpillars This month We will continue to make lovely autumnal objects and pictures for our Autumn display board. We will also do some cooking and messy activities to celebrate Halloween and as part of the celebration we will have a party!

Other bits and bobs As the temperature is dropping, please can appropriate clothing be packed, especially splash suits and wellies if you have them.

Ideas for home Cut an apple in half and use the flat surface to do pumpkin prints!

Blossom This month This month we will be creating a Halloween board for our lovely Blossom room. The board will be full of the children’s wonderful drawings and creations. Well done to all of our children who took part in the Big Toddle; we dressed up as animals and raised money for charity!

Other bits and bobs Please could we ask parents and carers to check their children’s drawers please. We have lots of clothes going missing, so please remember to label all clothes that come into the nursery!

Ideas for home Encouraging lots of sharing! We have our own sharing song at nursery. If you would like a copy of our sharing song then just ask a member of staff.

Forest School Butterflies take 12 children to Forest School on Mondays and Tuesdays. Sarah Camp has passed 2 of the 5 units towards her Forest School training. This month we will listen to ‘Room on the Broom’, ‘Superworm’, ‘Owl babies store soup’ and ‘Stickman’. Each week we will carry out a fun activity to go with the book. We have so far made broomsticks and done a ‘bug hunt’.

Other bits and bobs Now that the weather is changing, please make sure that children have a waterproof coat and socks.

Ideas for home We are looking out for mini beasts and tree treasure. Please encourage the children to be gentle with all living things. Leaf rubbing with a crayon is great fun!

Butterflies This month We will be continuing to learn about looking after each other. We will be having some visits from people who help us; including the police, fire and ambulance service. We are going to think about how to look after the room and each other. We will also be looking around the environment to see the changes in Autumn. We will be starting to think about growing, planting bulbs. Once we have had our visits, we will also be asking the children what they would like to be when they grow up!

Acknowledgements Thank you to Sarah T for letting us borrow Nigel the hamster. The children loved looking after him! Also a big thank you to Kim for bringing Chester in and bathing him in front of so many of our children. They loved the whole experience.

Other bits and bobs Please can you check the green box by the main door as there is a lot of lost property. We have started book bags for our school leavers– September 2017. (It seems a long way off but will come around very quickly!) The children will read weekly in nursery and then have the opportunity to take the book home and share it with you. This is a great opportunity to support your child in preparing them for school.

Please can you remember to bring your child’s book bag back weekly and check their trays for new books. Thank you.

Ideas for home Going on walks and collecting leaves to make collages or leaf rubbings!
