Decisions ahead •
This is an important time in your academic and sporting development.
•
Wanted to present Worthing College to you as a potential option.
•
Provide students the opportunity to become a part of the Academy of Sport at Worthing College.
•
Main focus on the Football Programme, however all applies across the other sports in the programme.
Academic Options •
95% of academic pathways link in with the Academy of Sport training and playing schedule.
•
Options include;
•
A level pathway (3 A levels) - A Level PE
•
A level & BTEC combo (2 A levels 1 BTEC for e.g.) - BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science
•
BTEC pathway (3 A level equivalent) BTEC 90-credit Diploma in Sport (Performance & Excellence)
•
You don’t have to study sport to be eligible for Academy of Sport programme.
Sporting Options •
Alongside your academic selections you would choose one of the Academy sports to apply for.
•
Generate a trial letter (take place in March/April/May 2015)
If Successful •
Excellent news! However the hard work starts from there!!
•
Expectations to work on physical conditioning as well as technical/tactical/intelligence side of performance.
•
Attend August Pre-season sessions to allow philosophy to be instilled.
•
Full pre-season week in early September before season commences.
•
To develop knowledge on importance of nutrition, active recovery, sleep and hydration to benefit both sporting and academic performance.
Structure •
The Academy is a Category 1 ECFA Programme. Only the top 10% in England have this recognition.
•
Squad train Tuesday, Thursday & Friday afternoons (1400-1600).
•
Tuesday based upon team organisation & game intelligence for upcoming games.
•
Thursday is a combination of Recovery work.
•
Match days take place on Wednesday’s.
•
Injured players to work on rehab in gym or see Sports Therapist (one on site at College)
•
Students who get onto Stage 1 Disciplinary will be banned from ALL training and matches for 2 weeks minimum. Education is a priority!
Progression •
During your time at Worthing College we look to provide an ideal climate for progression and high level experiences.
•
National League & Cup competitions,
•
National representation (3 players in the last 3 seasons),
•
Senior football debuts (Brighton Women’s First Team plus many more).
Progression •
The Programme is NOT just about the Sport & Education. Its about developing the PERSON as well.
•
Alumni students have gone on to do the following;
•
Study at University in England (Sport & Exercise Science, PE, Sports Development, Sports Journalism, Primary Education, Nursing, Paramedics etc.)
•
Scholarships to America (Jade Widdows pictured right started with Univ NW Ohio, now with Coker College, South Carolina studying Sports Management)
•
Apprenticeships (Sport & Activity Leader, Sports Development, Personal Training)
•
We will look to provide the tools for you to realise your full potential.
Next Steps… •
Even if you have applied at another College you CAN still apply at Worthing College (you can make your mind up later).
•
Key Date - Open Evening 18th March 5pm-7.30pm at Worthing College
•
Your application will make sure that you can get a place on the courses you want (can always change your mind, but best to have a place to be able to make that decision).

Work hard on your game (game intelligence & S&C) to ensure that you are in the best position possible when you trial.
•
