Community Lunar Calendars: Incorporating Traditional and Cultural Fishing Knowledge
Since 2007, a lunar calendar has been made to help the CNMI and its communities participate in local and federal fisheries management and science. The 2013 CNMI Community Lunar Calendar is NOW AVAILABLE in Chamorro and Refaluwasch, but we would like your help in making next year’s calendar even better!
WHEN: Thursday February 7, 2013, 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. WHERE: Fiesta Resort & Spa, Garapan, Saipan, CNMI
This lunar calendar is for the COMMUNITY, so come to the forum and provide some input on some of the things we are looking to add to next year’s calendar: • Traditional Fishing Techniques and Methods • What types of fish are traditionally caught with these gears; • How and where to use these methods; • Any special observations you have noticed Here is your chance to learn about the CNMI lunar calendar and be a part of providing a resource for the CNMI community!
The Community Lunar Calendar Fishers Forum is being brought to you by the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council, CNMI Lunar Calendar Committees and the CNMI Department of Land and Natural Resources and Division of Fish and Wildlife Service.
