The objective of the Coral Reef Stock Assessment Workshop was to develop a plan to improve data collection and assessment methodology to a point where reliable resource assessments can be obtained. Accordingly, the workshop aimed to:
“(1) review the state of the art of coral reef fisheries stock assessment and management methods; (2) determine the best methods for monitoring multispecies stocks to meet the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and over fishing control rules as required by the U.S. Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act for Federally managed fisheries; and (3) determine the status of and improve the availability and quality of coral reef fisheries data including criteria and parameters used in assessing fish stocks.”
