Membership Information Residency Information Resident fees apply to those who live or work in the city limits of Worthington, including spouses and school–Aged children of those households. Aquatics/Swimming Lessons Parent/Child Aquatic Classes Tiny Tots

Little Nemos

This class is also referred to as Parent Child Aquatics Level 1. A parent is required in the water with the child. The Tiny Tot swim class introduces basic skills to both the parents and the children. Parents will learn to work with their child including how to support and hold their child and prepare the child to try the skills on their own. Children are introduced to basic skills such as blowing bubbles, kicking their legs, floating on front and back, underwater exploration and much more.

This class is also referred to as Parent and Child Aquatics Level 2. A parent is required in the water with the child. This class is for those children ready to move up from the Tiny Tots (Parent & Child Aquatics Level 1) but are not yet old enough or ready for Flounder or Guppy I. Here the children improve on the skills learned in Tiny Tots. Children should be comfortable in the water and be able to move around by themselves with a parent or adult nearby.

The goddess Athena, disguised as an old man, brings news of Odysseus’ journey as the play’s action segues to his adventure. Captain Odysseus, as brave and determined as his sailors are cowardly, cleverly defeats the man-eating, one-eyed Cyclops, then rescues his men from the sorceress Circe’s spell. Next, he braves the River Styx and resists the hypnotizing song of the twin Sirens, fainting from exhaustion. While Odysseus sleeps, his famished men embark upon a nearby shore and take on of Apollo’s golden cows. Offended, the god implores Zeus to punish the men. Odysseus and his sailors are swept into a storm– tossed sea. Meanwhile, back at home, a challenge has been set forth for the suitors of Penelope, Odysseus’ wife. Who will win the hand of Penelope? Often considered the potter’s rite of passage, a teapot, compiled from multiple components, emerges as a personal artistic expression as well as a functional piece rich in history, culture and ceremony. We’ll begin the process to learn and practice several ways to make the parts of a teapot while reflecting on the many subtleties of their style and function, as well as how to pay attention to the details and interaction between the forms to produce a unique piece of pottery of value greater than the sum of its parts. Pre-Requisite: Basic Wheel-Throwing Process, PART 1 and the student should be confident on the potter’s wheel. #19583 Thu 1 wks.

Water Aerobics: River Run Age: 16Y and up • Lazy River

Join us in the Lazy River for fitness and fun. A typical class begins with a brief warm-up of walking, jogging and running with the current. We will then do some stretching to get ready for the cardio segment. The use of buoyant equipment adds variety and increases the intensity of our workout and the level of laughter. We may travel to other areas of the pool to further enhance our workout. We end our session with abdominal work and more stretching. Get a great water workout with us in the river. It’s fun. It’s different. This is a high level intensity class and is not recommended for people that are just beginning or who have not participated in a high level water aerobics class before. “I’ll sleep when I die”… We’ve all heard that before! Truth is lack of sleep can lead to a variety of health and emotional problems. Research has shown that if you sleep less than 6 hours a night you are at greater risk of heart attack, stroke and other sicknesses related to viral infections. What’s more, lack of sleep also makes you less peaceful and more prone to anger. 32

The Alexander Technique

Balance & Flex

The Alexander Technique is a simple and practical method for improving freedom and ease of movement. By learning and using the principles of the technique, one is able to enjoy the true capacity for movement inherent in the design of the human body. Even with the changes of maturity or injury, the technique can help maximize movement potential and comfort. The principles of this technique can help you improve simple things like getting in or out of a chair, walking, standing, picking things up from the floor, to more complex movements like driving, using a computer, doing household chores or hobbies, or even working with your golf swing. Instructor: Donna Doellinger

The focus of this class is on joint flexibility, muscle strengthening, and balance techniques to decrease the risk of falling. We will help you become more aware of your posture and give you the ability to walk more freely and with greater confidence. Instructor: Jeff Fickell

Feldenkrais Method®—Awareness Through Movement® Age: 18Y and up • Topping Room

Time Changed to 11:15am this quarter! Feldenkrais lessons may be done standing, sitting or lying down. They explore basic movements in great detail, in a gentle manner that evokes in adults the quick, spontaneous learning of young children. This ‘reprograms’ the brain for better posture and self-image, greater ease and pleasure in movement, and fuller relaxation in rest. Chronic tension, pain, anxiety, disability, and effects of aging are not confronted directly, but are simply left behind in a natural process of learning and improvement. Students are often surprised to find that the smallest and most gentle work produces the most profound changes. This method was developed by the late Israeli physicist Moshe Feldenkrais. Teachers and teacher trainings are certified by the Feldenkrais Guild. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Instructor: Melinda Murphy. #19716

Adventures in Writing

Harmonaires

We write, we share and we listen. The muse (sometimes called Mr. Whatever) guides us to stories, poems, fact or fiction, serious or funny. Bring pen and paper then be warmed by a totally accepting environment and lots of wonderful.

Our Griswold Center chorus has become an outreach service to the community. When the Harmonaires are not rehearsing on Friday afternoons, we are going to sing in retirement villages, nursing homes, schools and other venues. A Griswold Center bus takes us to and from our engagements. We enjoy singing classic standards from the Hit Parade, musical theatre and novelty songs. If you enjoy singing in a casual, low-key environment, give the Harmonaires a try. We have a good time together! Instructor: Lori Hagerman
