Magical Things To Do In And Around Litchfield County Picnic and take selfies at Topsmead Estate in Litchfield. This State Park is the

perfect picnic destination. Gorgeous views, endless lawn, and a sunken garden. Also a great place for a family portrait!

Greet owls at the Sharon Audubon Society - eagles and hawks too. This is a

fun place to learn more about nature and take a walk on a marked walking trail. Oh, and a quaint tiny nature museum.

The BEST sandwiches and cookies at The Pantry in Washington. Everything

is delicious here, but the smoked salmon or veggie sandwiches are insanely good.

Promise. Add avocado or havarti! Tell Michael we said “Hi.”

Breakfast and paddling. Start at O’Hara’s Landing on the Twin Lakes in Salisbury and enjoy a wonderful pancake breakfast. Rent a boat to paddle or motor around the lakes. Swim, fish or just relax and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. Water has therapeutic powers… let your stress melt away.

Get a Merlot Slushy at Sunset Meadows Vineyard in Goshen. Walk through the vineyards and enjoy the blue sky. Browse the unique gift shop. We are obsessed with the wine slushy – a fun treat on a summer day!

Flea market and antique hunt at The Elephant’s Trunk in New Milford every Sunday. Bring a truck. You will want to buy really, really cool old things. From collect-

ibles to true antiques - it is there! The perfect way to spend Sunday. Try brunch at Mamie’s in Roxbury before you head out. We love that they serve greens as a side to eggs!

Wander the boardwalk in Litchfield that is built over a protected marsh at White Memorial Nature Center. You may even see a great blue heron. White Memorial has a great nature center – perfect for the kiddos. Many great trails!

Fall in love at the Mayflower Inn & Spa. It’s pretty glamorous, and a perfect place to fall in love, go to the spa, revel in the lack of cell service, and feel special. Don’t miss the terrace. It’s divine.

Hike Kent Falls. It’s great to go here during the week when it’s quiet. Get a good leg workout by hiking up the steps that are next to the waterfalls. Afterwards, check out downtown Kent. Pizza at Swyft is great – as is a coffee or ice cream at Kent Coffee & Chocolate. The Kent Barns are a fun place to browse shops! Look up Pergola.

Taste the locally made Chocolate at Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates in Goshen. Artisanal “Single Cow Origin”chocolate, made on site using fresh milk, cream, and butter from their cows. You must try the Mr. Ives Mint and Sea Salt Caramel – two of our favorites. Also, you can meet the dairy cows and tour the farm!

Drive through the Covered Bridge in Cornwall. Get out and walk around by the river, take a selfie inside the covered bridge.

Sample ice cream like a fashionista at Arethusa Dairy in Bantam. The extra

thick milkshakes are very popular as are the waffle cones. There are flavors like Butter Pecan, Rum Raisin, Coconut Chip and Mint Chip. Take a seat outside and enjoy your delectable treat. You can also grab a coffee and house-made donut across the street at their café.

Visit the Litchfield Historical Society and step back in time as you browse pre-Rev-

olutionary artifacts and etchings. Then walk North and South Streets to admire the rows of fine antique homes that date back to the 1700’s.

Be a cowboy at the Goshen Fair Labor Day weekend. Wear cowboy boots, eat fried food or apple crisp as you browse blue ribbon livestock. There is even a skillet tossing contest for the brave!
