CREATIVITY

This book is the first of example of our school’s effort to promote project-based learning. There is no doubt that when these young people are given a chance to be creative, they step up to the challenge with incredibly inspiring skills. Learning Academy Worldwide and Communcations Management Support are saluted for supporting us in this venture. Thanks to our entire staff and the interns for making this possible. 2 | THE MAKGATHO PRIMARY YEARBOOK 2017

EDITORIAL These images and anecdotes are reflections of 2017 here at our school just outside Pretoria. To be clear, they are just a few reflections of the last year and it is valuable for us to let our children see them as their own and as tangible evidence of their incredible lives and journey.

We are excited about the future of our school because we are excited about people. These young lives are given to us for just a brief few moments in time and we want to cherish them. JANE TSHARANE, Principal

there will always be a day one

When the new year started, we understood, once again, that the most important moments of a child’s life must be cherished and celebrated. Our forgetfulness of those first steps, those first days, those first precious experiences are often the result of an absence of tangible milestones. Documenting these first steps are becoming one of our most important duties to our children. It may inspire them when they look back one day.

varied learning and flying experiences Many opportunities exist during our school days to allow our children to start dreaming their own dreams. It helps to stimulate those dreams by allowing children to be children and also by allowing them to meet professionals who are working in their respective fields, like the to pilots who came to meet with our children.

Mr Bhekumuzi Ndlamlenze

someone i will never forget Mr Ndlamlenze is one of my favourite teachers. I chose him as my role model because he has a unique history with the school, what I like about him is that his like a father to many children at school, he is very strict but friendly and he loves children. My 8 years of school at sefako mapogo makgatho primary school

My name is Tiisetso Ledwaba I am 12 years old and a Grade 7 boy at Sefako Ma pogo Makgatho Primary School. I am just a walk to the school and I started walking into this school from the year when I was in Grade R hoping to say goodbye by the year 2017. It has been my wish to be a Prefect and I am not just a Prefect but the Head Prefect. I had thought that being a Head Prefect you have to be tall and big but no, I am chosen because I am a responsible young boy who does not want to disappoint my teachers and my grandmother. I am one day going to be a Doctor, I want to help people, I will work at the Community Clinic because I don’t want to see sick people. I want to also be a volunteer at school to help other children, I was encouraged by the German Volunteers who work at our school to help us with homeworks and sport and culture. I do a lot of work with Tebogo and Phindile. Tebogo is also a volunteer and Phindile is a librarian, I just love to help.
