The Writers’ Exchange gets inner-city kids excited about reading and writing through mentoring and creative writing projects like this chapbook. My animal is a bear and a bear hibernates in the winter. Bears eat a lot of berries before winter. Bears sometimes do not eat or drink for many months. Their breathing is very slow.

In the winter Canada geese fly south to find food. They fly in a V.

I am a beaver. Beavers eat bark from trees. Beavers put mud and sticks on their dams.

My snowshoe hare adapts in the winter. Its fur changes colour. It is white in the winter. If there is not enough snow, it stays brown.

I am a sea otter. I stay close to shore so I can find food. My fur keeps me warm in the winter. I adapt in the winter.

Did you know that grey whales can fit 201 people inside them? My animal lives in the Pacific Ocean.

I am a blue heron. I fly to warmer places when it gets cold here.

My animal is a long-tailed weasel. Long-tailed weasels eat other animals. Weasels’ soft fur keeps them warm.
