Officials say town reacted swiftly to historic blizzard By ERICA SCHMITT STAFF WRITER

But no natural disaster will conquer Newington, no matter how many blow through. “I think the Public Works, Parks Department, Police, Volunteer Fire Department as well as the other town personnel did an outstanding job in this fourth or fifth emergency,” said Town Manager John Salomone, who has grown accustomed to emergency response protocol. In fact, when the infamous Blizzard of ’78 struck, it was his first week on the job as Assistant Town Manager in Watertown. Salomone met with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Collins Tuesday afternoon to deliberate when it would be safe See OFFICIALS, Page 2
