Local blogger, raising 3 adopted children with lesbian partner, to appear on national talk show By ERICA SCHMITT STAFF WRITER

A local mom will be featured on an upcoming episode of “The Ricki Lake Show” for her insight into everyday parenting. Although many wouldn’t refer to Newington resident Elise Schreier’s family life as the common, everyday kind, she wants people to see that a bi-racial family with two moms isn’t much different than other families. Schreier and her wife Andrea have three children, Ramon, 6, Mariah, 3, and Kayla, 2. They’ve lived in Newington for 10 years now and after fostering their two oldest for 2½ years they officially adopted them last April. Schreiers were overjoyed to bring into their family. Ricki Lake producers saw their story in an interview online and it led them to Schreier’s blog at CTWorkingMoms.com. The show was taped last week. “It was an unbelievable experience,” she said this week. “We didn’t find out about it until Monday and we were on a plane by Wednesday.” Schreier began blogging just six months ago as an outlet for her thoughts, but it turned into a way to capture the special moments and chronicle her family life. It was also a chance to be a part of a real community of mothers balancing work with family life. “It’s nice for our readers because every mom who blogs has kids of different ages, a different lifestyle and a different perspective on being a parent,” Schreier explained.
