Program Polskich Studiów obchodzi 40 lat Polish Studies Program celebrates 40 years SCOTT WHIPPLE
NEW BRITAIN - Polski ambasador w Stanach Zjednoczonych, Ryszard Schnepf, pomoże Programowi Studiów Polskich na Central Connecticut State University ś w i ę t o w a ć swoje 40 lat na Rocznicowej Gali, która odbędzie się w niedzielę 19 października. Uroczystość w Centrum Studenckim zaczyna się o 17:00 przekąskami i aperitifem, a potem o 18:00 podany będzie Ryszard Schnepf obiad. Wieczorem zostaną uhonorowani ci, którzy przyczynili się do powstania programu i inni, którzy wspierali postęp historii i kultury Polski i Polonii. Przedstawiciele Stanu Connecticut, Stanów Zjednoczonych i polskiego rządu będą uczestniczyć w uroczystości. Studencki zespół jazzowy zagra podczas podawania przekąsek. Od początku swojego istnienia od stycznia 1974 roku, Program Studiów Polskich służył studentom CCSU i społeczności z centralnego Connecticut interpretując i ukazując spojrzenie na historyczne wydarzenia, które przekształciły globalną politykę i prawa człowieka w czwartym kwartale XX wieku, takie jak: wybór papieża Jana Pawła II w 1978, powstanie Solidarności w 1980
roku, upadek imperium sowieckiego w 1989 roku i odzyskanie suwerenności Polski i jej wejście do NATO w kwietniu 1998 roku. Fundowana Katedra Historii Polski i Poloni im. Stanisława A. Blejwasa powstała w 1997 roku na CCSU, dzięki ofiarności Polonii amerykańskiej stanu Connecticut i jej przyjaciół oraz dotacji wynoszącej 600.000 dolarów uzyskanej od stanu Connecticut.

Biskupski prepares for the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the school’s Polish studies program.
at 5 p.m. followed by dinner at 6 in the Student Center. The evening will honor those who helped establish the program and others who have supported the advancement of Polish and Polish-American history and culture. Connecticut, United States and Polish government representatives will join in the celebration. A student jazz band will play during the reception. Since its start in January 1974, the Polish Studies Program has served CCSU students and central Connecticut by interpreting and offering perspectives on historic developments that reshaped global politics and human rights during the fourth quarter of the 20th century: the election of Pope John Paul II in 1978, the creation of the Solidarity movement in 1980, the collapse of the Soviet empire in 1989, and Poland’s regained sovereignty and admission into NATO in April 1998. The Stanislaus A. Blejwas Endowed Chair in Polish and Polish-American Studies was inaugurated in 1997 at CCSU, thanks to the generosity of Connecticut’s Polish-Americans and their friends and a matching grant of $600,000 from the State of Connecticut. The chair is named in honor of the late Stanislaus A. Blejwas, founder of Central’s Polish Studies Program and the first person to be designated a CSU professor by the Connecticut State University System. It is one of only two See POLISH, Page 3
