Officials say town acted swiftly to cope with storm By ERICA SCHMITT STAFF WRITER
Blizzard Nemo is over, so now what? All 27 inches of snow that fell in Wethersfield (according to the National Weather Service) is pushed aside and the town is armed for the rest of the winter season. Wethersfield highway crews had all roads cleared and re-opened by this past Sunday evening and the few emergency incidents that took place during the storm were dealt with promptly, according to town officials. “Throughout the storm we had medical and fire calls but those were all handled without problem,” Town Manager Jeff Bridges said Wednesday. “The weather made it more difficult but our Police Department, Fire Department and Public Works did a great job handling them.” The town is still in the process of calculating how much was spent in clean-up costs and overtime for employees, a figure which federal reimbursement will significantly alleviate. Towns have been asked to designate a 48-hour window in between when the storm began and when clean-up was finished for 75 percent reimbursement. “We just have to figure out when we want those hours to run; we’ll just have to evaluate the costs of over the last five or six days,” said Bridges, who along with the town’s other emergency See BLIZZARD, Page 3
