Rocky Hill residents rallied at the State Capitol Wednesday, urging the state to “Just say no!” to moving 95 mentally ill patients and criminals to a nursing home on West Street, claiming it poses a “serious safety concern.” State Rep. Tony Guerrera, D-Rocky Hill, and state Sen. Paul Doyle, D-Wethersfield, led more than 100 people through the Capitol building and up to Gov. handed over a petition signed by over 4,000 opponents. “This sends a serious message to the governor,” said Guerrera, who along with Rocky Hill Mayor Tony LaRosa and Doyle have voiced opposition to the project since the state departments of Correction and Mental Health and Addiction Services announced it in early December. State officials have said they would save an estimated $5.5 million by moving inmates to nursing homes, because the federal government pays for half the cost of their care in such facilities.
