Continuing the trends of previous years, my new work speaks of people and animals that we all love and places that we all know. Inevitably, my new landscape paintings look towards hope in the face of endings and loss. Several of my new acrylic paintings reflect a series of long horizontal water colors completed in New Mexico, summer of 2011. Several paintings exhibited in this show were started plein air and finished in the studio. I continue to use the simple folded form as a basis for my sculptures. In January 2012, I began using plastic and Styrofoam containers. The sculptures are abstract but figurative in nature, evoking familiar friends, children and animals. Ending a biannual tradition that started in 1997, this show will be my last home exhibition. This summer, I am moving on to an apartment adjacent to my studio as my son and his family move into the big house. As this tradition draws to a close, I am pleased to have William Reaves Gallery representing my work. Richard Stout March 2013
