50 years of Meals on Wheels service CHORLEYWOOD
I
t was a great day of celebration in Chorleywood as the WRVS Meals on Wheels service marked its 50th anniversary in an event attended by volunteers past and present. Area Manager Esther Gillespie also presented three volunteers with long-service commendations. For Vivian Culling (27 years), Cynthia Lloyd (15 years) and Barbara Christie (25 years) the day was a double celebration. Esther said: “The volunteers laid on a fantastic spread and it was a great occasion. Previous volunteers throughout the 50 years were invited along to celebrate, so there was a real sense of community on the day.”
Tregon is top dog ST LEONARDS-ON-SEA
I
n what was a stroke of genius, plus a little luck, the Isabel Blackman Centre now has a volunteer unlike any other. Tregon, a husky, has become part of the team along with his owner Ray, who had visited the service looking for somewhere welcoming and friendly.
Service Manager Sue Adey saw the opportunity not only to give his owner somewhere to socialise but also to use Tregon, who is a trained assistance dog, to provide the many people who visit the centre with a “pet” who they could fuss over, as many are not able to have pets of their own. The rest, as they say, is history and Tregon is now a fully-fledged WRVS volunteer and mascot for the service in St Leonards-on-Sea.
