SESSION RESERVATIONS

Lectures at PNDC 2025 can be reserved in advance for free. By reserving a lecture, you will be guaranteed entry for up to 15 minutes after the lecture’s scheduled start time, at which point entry to the lecture will become first-come, first-served to all attendees. Workshops can be reserved for an additional fee. Please make your free lecture reservations or paid workshop reservations when you register.

ATTEND FOR FREE Volunteer as a Speaker Ambassador

Volunteer as a Speaker Ambassador to receive refunds on your registration plus free parking and meals. Speaker Ambassadors help facilitate the needs of speakers prior to and during the conference and help make the speaker feel at home while at PNDC. WASHINGTON CE REQUIREMENTS

DENTISTS

Licensed Washington dentists must complete 63 hours of continuing education every three years.

• For Dentists Licensed Before 2019: Verification of completion of CE hours was due on the dentist’s annual license renewal date in 2022, and every three years thereafter.

• For Dentists Licensed 2019 or Later: The three-year CE reporting period begins upon date of licensure and is due every three years thereafter.

2025 is a CE reporting year for Washington dentists licensed before 2019. Prepare for your reporting deadline by earning 20+ CE credits in just three days at PNDC!

HYGIENISTS

Licensed Washington dental hygienists must complete 15 hours of continuing education per year.

Hygienists can complete an entire year of CE in just three days at PNDC!

ADDITIONAL CE REQUIREMENTS

PNDC 2025 offers CE sessions to meet several more specific continuing education requirements for Washington dentists, hygienists, and other members of the dental team.

CE REQUIREMENT

Administration of Anesthetic Agents/Sedation

Licensed Washington dentists who administer anesthetic agents/sedation must complete additional CE requirements based on sedation level. Dentists who administer minimal sedation must complete seven hours of eligible CE every five years, dentists who administer moderate sedation with enteral agents must complete seven hours of eligible CE every three years, and higher-level permitholders are subject to more intensive requirements. Review specific requirements at wsda.org/anesthesia

Health Equity

Licensed Washington dentists and dental anesthesia assistants must complete two hours of health equity CE every three years. Licensed Washington dental hygienists must complete two hours of health equity CE every four years. For dentists and hygienists, the two hours can count toward the 63- and 15-hour renewal requirements, respectively. For dental anesthesia assistants, the two hours must be completed in addition to the 12 hours currently required for renewal, raising the total number of required CE hours to 14.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Dental staff providing direct patient care in an inoffice or outpatient setting must hold a current and valid healthcare provider basic life support (BLS) certification. Training must include both didactic and hand-on components. Certification is good for two years.

REQUIREMENT

DEA MATE Act

Prescribers of controlled substances, including dentists, must complete eight hours of one-time training on safely prescribing controlled substances (Schedules II, III, IV, and/or V) in order to receive or renew their registration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Tara Aghaloo, DDS, MD, PhD

Dr. Tara Aghaloo is a Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the UCLA School of Dentistry. She completed her dental training at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency, MD, and PhD in Oral Biology at UCLA. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and her practice focuses on bone and soft tissue regeneration and dental implant surgery. She is also active in professional organizations where she is the Associate Editor for the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and Past-President of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO).

Jen Bennett

A native to Washington, Jen received her degree in Communications at Central Washington University. After college, she furthered her education and training at PIMA Medical Institute where she earned her certificate in Dental Assisting. She served the dental community as a CDA for over 16 years. Jen decided to advance her career by becoming a Dental Practice Broker in 2016 and now has over 50 successful dental practice transitions under her belt. She is a valuable asset to the OMNI team.

Ashleigh Briody, DDS, MS

Dr. Ashleigh Briody is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She earned her DDS from LSU School of Dentistry in New Orleans and completed her residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology at The Ohio State University where she earned a certificate and master’s degree. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Dr. Briody currently practices oral pathology in a private practice, Ohio ENT & Allergy Physicians, in Westerville, Ohio. The scope of her practice includes seeing patients clinically, diagnosing and managing oral disease, performing biopsies, CO2 laser ablation, and reading the tissue microscopically. Their practice accepts specimens from outside contributors including dentists,

oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists, ENTs, dermatologists, and others. When not in clinic, she enjoys lecturing about oral pathology all over the United States and spending time with her husband and three daughters.

Steve Carstensen, DDS

Steve Carstensen, DDS, has treated sleep apnea and snoring in Bellevue, WA since 1998. He’s the consultant to the ADA for sleep related breathing disorders and heads the ADA’s Children’s Airway Initiative. He trained at UCLA’s Mini-Residency in Dental Sleep Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine. He lectures internationally and directs sleep education at Airway Technologies and the Pankey Institute, in addition to advising several other sleep-related manufacturers. In 2014 he helped found Dental Sleep Practice Magazine and currently serves as Chief Dental Editor. He has written chapters for several related textbooks. In 2019, A Clinician’s Handbook for Dental Sleep Medicine, written with a co-author, was released. The second edition is soon to be published by Quintessence. The AADSM awarded him the 2023 Distinguished Service Award.

Jacqueline Clarke, JD

Jacqueline Clarke received her BA in Literature and Film from Kalamazoo College in 2010, and her Juris Doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2013. She is admitted to practice law in both the Michigan and Illinois state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan. Before joining MedPro Group, she worked as a litigation attorney at Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge in Ann Arbor, Michigan. There, she specialized in the defense of hospitals, healthcare facilities, physicians, nurses, and dentists in all stages of the licensing, claims, and litigation processes. She also provided risk management consultative services to a number of institutional clients, including the University of Michigan Health System, Spectrum Health, and Beaumont Health. Jacqueline joined MedPro in 2018 and helped our dental division achieve a trial win rate of 95% and a closed without payment rate over 80%. Jacqueline’s responsibilities include developing and delivering risk management and patient safety services to MedProinsured dentists, students/residents, and national dental organizations. Jacqueline also serves in a business development role

by providing educational seminars on risk reduction and proactive risk management to prospective clients, distribution partners and dental students and residents.

Art Cole, PARAMEDIC

Art Cole Teaching Group has over one hundred years of experience working in the fire service and teaching. The instructors are active and retired firefighters and paramedics. Art Cole has been involved teaching locally, nationally and internationally for groups and foreign governments. You will walk away able to handle emergencies through his teaching style.

Dani Collins, SVP

Dani Collins has enjoyed an extensive banking career that has afforded her the opportunity to work with a multitude of business and professional clients. During this time, she has worked in retail, commercial and private banking. She has spent the last 15 years developing relationships with physicians, dentists, business owners, attorneys and CPAs.

Yasmi Crystal, DMD, MSc

Dr. Yasmi Crystal is the founder and senior specialist at Comprehensive Pediatric Dentistry, NJ, Clinical Professor of Pediatric Dentistry at New York University (NYU) College of Dentistry and on the medical staff of the Robert Wood Johnson-Rutgers University Hospital. Dr. Crystal has a DDS degree from Universidad Tecnologica de Mexico (UNITEC), a DMD from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), Pediatric Dental specialty training from Eastman Dental Center, University of Rochester and a MSc in Clinical and Translational Research from CTSI, NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Crystal is a Diplomate and an Examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. She is very active in AAPD, IAPD and IADR scientific groups. Associate Editor of the International Journal of Pediatria Dentistry, Editorial Board member of Pediatric Dentistry Journal, and Revista ALOP, has participated in the writing of AAPD national guidelines to improve the practice of Pediatric Dentistry. She has presented lectures to varied health care audiences across the world and has published numerous research articles in peer reviewed scientific journals on topics of Caries Management, Risk Assessment and Minimal

Intervention Approaches including SDF therapy, and the Role of Conscious Sedation for delivery of care in Pediatric Dentistry. As a researcher, educator and with over 30 years’ experience as a private primary care provider, her presentations blend evidencebased recommendations with down to earth approaches for the provision of pediatric dental care in public and private settings.

Brooke Fukuoka, DMD, DABSCD

Dr. Brooke is a passionate speaker whose primary focus is improving oral health for patients who have special healthcare needs and geriatric patients who live in long-term care. She has practiced in a diverse array of settings and has built programs to help expand access to care for her patients. In her part time practice, Your Special Smiles PLLC, she practices portable dentistry, hospital dentistry, teledentistry and most importantly has developed a professionally aided home hygiene program in two longterm care facilities. She also works full time with a Federally Qualified Health Center, Family Health Services of Idaho, where she has developed their Advanced Delivery Dental Clinic for patients who have special healthcare needs. She is active in organized dentistry and enjoys working with diverse groups of people. Her high-energy and fast-paced courses can be catered to any group regardless of size or education level. She strives to create a fun, yet educational, interactive environment where learners gain knowledge and experiences they can immediately implement into practice. Thomas Gessel, DMD

Tacoma native Dr. Gessel earned a degree in business management from BYU, a DMD from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, and his specialty certificate in orthodontics from the University of Louisville. He started a de novo practice in his home town in 2014. He added a second location in Puyallup in 2024. He has been married to his sweetheart, Emily, since 2011, and has two sons, Miles (10), and Bennett (7).

April Haberman, WHC

April boasts over a decade of dedicated service within the realm of global women’s health. Her professional journey is marked by a multifaceted expertise spanning business development, administrative aptitude, public speaking, training and development acumen, adept fundraising skills, and a clear understanding of healthcare intricacies. She has worked alongside organizations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Starbucks, CVS Health, WebMD Health Services and Microsoft. Timothy Hempton, DDS

Gary Heyamoto, DDS, MAGD, LLSA

Gary E. Heyamoto, DDS, is a retired Bothell general dentist who was in private practice for 40 years. A 1980 University of Washington School of Dentistry graduate, he chaired the Continuing Dental Education program for the Washington Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) for 18 years starting in 2003. After personally locating a site and establishing the WA AGD Angle Lake Global Educational Center in SeaTac, he served as their initial clinical director, establishing the Mastertrack, Fellowtrack and Implant programs. He also has served on numerous committees for WSDA including two terms on the WSDA Board of Directors. Currently in retirement, he is active in the Washington State HPV Task Force, the Washington State Mass Disaster Team and the Lake Washington Institute of Technology Dental Hygiene School (Clinical and didactic as the DHYG 336 Pharmacology adjunct professor). He holds Fellowships in the Pierre Fauchard Society, Academy of General Dentistry, International College of Dentists,

Academy of Dentists International and the American College of Dentists along with an AGD Mastership and four Lifelong Learner Service Recognition awards. He has been awarded the WA State AGD’s “Dentist of the Year” twice (2005, 2016), the Snohomish County “Citizen of the Year” Recognition (2018) and the WA State AGD’s “Distinguished Service Award” in 2019. As a change of pace from dentistry, for the past 42 years, he has had the privilege of being a statistician for the NFL (Seahawks) and the NCAA Football and Basketball (University of Washington). He has worked the last 16 Rose Bowls and 11 National NCAA Championship Football games (as the defensive statistician). He has worked games for SPU, Seattle U., Gonzaga and the Seattle Storm. Last season he experienced a lifetime dream of working the 2024 CFP Championship game in Houston with his University of Washington Huskies in it!

Arthur Jeske, PhD, DMD

Dr. Jeske is Professor, Department of General Practice and Dental Public Health and Associate Dean for Strategic Planning & Continuing Dental Education, University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston. He earned his PhD degree (pharmacology) and his DMD degree at the Medical College of Georgia. Jonathan Ng, DDS

Roy Shelburne, BA, DDS

Dr. Shelburne graduated from the University of Virginia with a double major in Biology and Religious Studies in 1977. He went on to graduate with honors from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Dental School and opened a private general practice in Pennington Gap, Virginia, in 1981. He has served as Secretary/ Treasurer and President for Southwest Virginia’s Component 6 of the Virginia Dental Association and as a delegate to the Virginia Dental Association’s Annual Meeting. He and his family have served as short-term volunteer missionaries with the Baptist Medical Dental Missions International and on various Mission of Mercy projects in Virginia. In March 2008, he surrendered his dental license after being convicted of healthcare fraud and spent 19 months in Federal Prison and 2 months in a halfway house. Dr. Shelburne voluntarily surrendered his license to practice dentistry on July 14, 2008 and his license to practice dentistry was reinstated on December 1, 2011 by the Virginia Board of Dentistry. During the period of revocation, the Virginia Dental Association arranged for Dr. Shelburne’s membership in the VDA/ADA to remain active although his license to practice was revoked. Dr. Shelburne continues to volunteer for various dental mission projects in Virginia, has spoken at various national, state, and local dental meetings and conducts confidential “mock chart audits” for private dental practices, helping them identify their areas of vulnerability. He shares with his dental audiences about his mistakes, what he learned as a result, and how to avoid them. “It is a wise man who learns from his mistakes, but a wiser man still that learns from another’s.”

In 2019 he received the Distinguished lecturer award from the Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics. In 2023 he was awarded the American Prosthodontic Society Gold Medallion Award for his influence on the profession of Prosthodontics. Luis Vega, DDS

Dr. Luis Vega is a board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. He earned his DDS degree from the University of Costa Rica and his OMS certificate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to establishing his private practice in Issaquah, WA, specializing in dental implantology and oral surgery, he dedicated 17 years to academia as a faculty member at the OMS Departments of the University of Florida in Jacksonville and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville where he was the OMS Residency Program Director for 10 years. Dr. Vega has made significant academic contributions, editing several books on outpatient oral surgery anesthesia, reoperations, and controversies in oral and maxillofacial surgery. He also lent his expertise to numerous journal articles and book chapters, covering a wide spectrum of OMS areas. Nationally and internationally recognized, Dr. Vega has been a soughtafter speaker, especially on topics related to complications in oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthognathic and obstructive sleep apnea surgery, TMJ alloplastic reconstruction and complex maxillofacial reconstruction utilizing zygomatic implants.

Chaz Vittitow, DMD

Dr Chaz Vittitow is originally a native of the state of Kentucky where he attended Western Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. He served 5 years as a Naval Dental Officer while completing a one-year AEGD at Naval Medical Center San Diego, three years at Naval Air Station Sigonella in Sicily, Italy, and Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor, WA. Dr Chaz decided to take the risk and do a dental startup where he began his seven treatment room de novo practice in beautiful Bellingham, WA. By offering a unique selling proposition of being a systemic based practice with an intent focus on high quality service, his practice empowered a team that collected over 1 million in revenue in year 1 and is continually growing and improving. Reid Winkler, DDS, MSD

Upon receiving his DDS degree in 1998 from the University of Washington, Dr. Winkler’s dental career began on active duty in the U.S. Navy. He practiced general dentistry for six years as an AEGD resident, shipboard Dental Officer on USS Denver (LPD9) and comprehensive dentist in Rota, Spain. The Navy sponsored his return to the University of Washington in 2004 for his orthodontic residency, after which he became the Orthodontic Department Chair

at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, MD. In 2010, Dr. Winkler separated from active service and joined Dr. Peter Shapiro as a partner in private practice in Seattle, WA. He continues that practice today, along with teaching orthodontic residents weekly in UW’s Orthodontic Department as an Affiliate Associate Professor. Dr. Winkler is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and and active member of the Northwest Angle Society. Outside of the office, he enjoys surfing, snowboarding, endurance sports and world travel.

Alan Yassin, DDS, MS, MSD

Dr. Yassin is an award winning surgeon with unparalleled training in Periodontics at the University of Washington, in addition to his international Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery residency program, and his achievement being a Diplomate of the German Board of Oral Implantology. With his exceptionally rare dual training, Dr. Yassin has been practicing oral surgery, implant dentistry and periodontics since his graduation from dental school in 2001. Born and raised in the ancient city of Damascus into a family of inveterate medical professionalism, influenced by his late father, his mother and his older sister, a successful physician, nurse and dentist respectively, Dr. Yassin realized his calling as a dental surgeon at the young age of 14 and has worked hard to actualize this ambition ever since. Keeping the family tradition alive, giving back to the community is a priority for Dr. Yassin. He is known for his continued dedication for volunteering to provide free dental services to uninsured and underserved patients both locally and internationally. His passion for teaching and sharing knowledge with colleagues kept him actively busy by lecturing at national and international conferences and symposiums, in addition to rigorous online courses and webinars. He is the founder and director of the (Clinical Implantology A-Z) program, and he regularly teaches at the University of Washington/School of Dentistry as an affiliate faculty member, in addition to his recent position as an Associate professor at the Pacific Northwest University. Dr. Yassin has many publications and articles in referred and in peer-reviewed journals; he also serves as a reviewer in many academic journals. Away from his professional life practicing in Seattle, WA, Dr. Yassin spends quality time with his family, where they enjoy jet skiing, playing soccer, and exploring PNW and the Greater Seattle Area which they proudly call home!
