The last time we met was last March for the fourth intense round of the WSK Super Master Series, hosted by the International Circuit Napoli, which awarded the four titles of the international classes present, giving the audience of fans breath-taking races. However, the 2022 season is not over yet. On the contrary, it is in full swing right now. WSK Promotion’s organisational machine has not stopped and has continued to operate at full throttle in view of the WSK Euro Series, a championship of which we are absolutely proud for two reasons: because this year it reaches its eighth edition and because it has developed the great stars of the current Formula 1. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, George Russell, Lance Stroll, Alex Albon and Mick Schumacher: almost half of the starting grid of the F1 World Championship was the protagonist of epics battles in the WSK Euro Series, which has increasingly become a point of reference in the calendar of great international karting. Not only because an increasing number of competitors compete on the track every year but also because of the impressive number of flags from all over the world that stand out on the overalls and karts. A nice recognition for a series with a European name but, in fact, a global flavour. L’ultima volta che ci siamo visti è stato lo scorso marzo per il quarto intenso appuntamento della WSK Super Master Series, ospitato dall’International Circuit Napoli, che ha assegnato i quattro titoli delle categorie internazionali presenti, regalando al pubblico di appassionati delle gare mozzafiato. Ma la stagione 2022 non è ancora finita, anzi, entra proprio ora nel vivo. La macchina organizzativa di WSK Promotion non si è fermata e ha continuato a operare senza freni in vista della WSK Euro Series, un campionato di cui siamo assolutamente orgogliosi per due motivi: perché quest’anno giunge all’ottava edizione e perché ha formato le grandi stelle dell’attuale Formula 1. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Pierre Gasly, George Russell, Lance Stroll, Alex Albon e Mick Schumacher: quasi la metà dello schieramento di partenza del Mondiale di F1 è stato protagonista di epiche battaglie nella WSK Euro Series, diventata sempre più un punto di riferimento nel calendario del grande karting internazionale. E non solo perché, ogni anno, un numero sempre crescente di concorrenti si sfida in pista, ma anche per l’impressionante quantità di bandiere di tutto il mondo che campeggiano sulle tute e sui kart. Un bel riconoscimento per una serie dal nome europeo ma, di fatto, dal sapore mondiale.

SOUTH GARDA KARTING

ROUND 1 / 14-17 JULY 2022

Operational since 1988, South Garda Karting is considered the “Temple of Speed” of international karting and is the favourite destination of F1 drivers who want to go back to training in karts. In 2015, the facilities and services adjacent to the track were modernized and the track was lengthened to its current 1,200 metres. This year it hosted the WSK Champions Cup and the first two rounds of the WSK Super Master Series. Attivo fin dal lontano 1988, il South Garda Karting è considerato il “Tempio della Velocità” del karting internazionale ed è la meta preferita dei piloti di F1 che vogliono tornare ad allenarsi in kart. Nel 2015, le strutture e i servizi adiacenti alla pista sono stati rimodernati e il tracciato è stato allungato agli attuali 1.200 metri. Quest’anno ha ospitato la WSK Champions Cup e i primi due appuntamenti della WSK Super Master Series.

The International Circuit Napoli, which is located at the foot of Vesuvius, has been a reference point in world of karting since 1999. Last year the track underwent a significant restyling (with a new starting line located along the paddock and a total length of which is now 1,600 metres), inaugurated internationally for a WSK event. Last March it awarded the titles of the four international classes of the WSK Super Master Series. L’International Circuit Napoli, che sorge ai piedi del Vesuvio, è un punto di riferimento del karting mondiale fin dal 1999. Lo scorso anno il tracciato ha subito un restyling notevole (con una nuova linea di partenza collocata lungo il paddock e una lunghezza totale che ora è di 1.600 metri), inaugurato a livello internazionale proprio in occasione di una manifestazione WSK. Lo scorso marzo ha assegnato i titoli delle quattro categorie internazionali della WSK Super Master Series.

For several years, the WSK Euro Series has provided a unique show on the international karting scene, with numerous drivers from all over the world sharing the goal of winning a leading position on the prestigious stage by WSK Promotion. Despite the uncertainty of the calendars due to the COVID-19 health emergency, there were three events that made the series more alive than ever in the 2021 season and the competitors certainly did not hold back, battling to the last metre. Among them is certainly the Italian Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing), the champion who, thanks to his constant results, managed to win the second consecutive title in the KZ2 class. Or the unstoppable Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame), a graduate of the OK class with a masterful conduct, consisting in three victories in three finals. Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex) also left his mark in OKJ, after a regular journey and a finale full of twists in the last round in Sarno. Finally, Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing) got his hands on the title reserved for MINI, the class dedicated to the little ones and an important first step in international karting. Who, instead, will win this year?

Da diversi anni la WSK Euro Series offre uno spettacolo unico nel panorama kartistico internazionale, con numerosi piloti provenienti da tutto il mondo accomunati dall’obiettivo di conquistare un posto da protagonista sul prestigioso palcoscenico by WSK Promotion. Nonostante l’incertezza dei calendari dovuta all’emergenza sanitaria COVID-19, sono stati ben tre gli appuntamenti che hanno reso viva più che mai la serie nella stagione 2021 e i concorrenti non si sono di certo risparmiati, battagliando fino all’ultimo metro. Tra di loro c’è sicuramente l’italiano Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing), il campione che grazie alla costanza dei suoi risultati è riuscito a conquistare il secondo titolo consecutivo nella classe KZ2. Oppure l’inarrestabile Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame), laureatosi campione della classe OK con una condotta magistrale, fatta di tre vittorie in tre finali. Anche Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex) ha lasciato la propria firma in OKJ, dopo un cammino regolare e un finale ricco di colpi di scena nell’ultimo round di Sarno. Infine, Christian Costoya (Parolin/ TM Racing) ha messo le mani sul titolo riservato alla MINI, la categoria dedicata ai più piccoli e importante primo step del karting internazionale. Chi sarà, invece, a vincere quest’anno?

Second consecutive WSK title for Senna Van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing). The Dutchman won the first round in Lonato but continued the championship with an 11th place in the next stage, again at South Garda Karting. Sarno became decisive for the title and Van Walstijn started the weekend well, but in the last heat on Saturday he withdrew due to a technical problem. The Sodikart driver did not surrender to fate and made a comeback in the final from 12th place to fifth: enough to secure the title of the KZ2 class with 210 points. Unfortunate, however, was his direct rival, Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel Art/TM Racing), leading at the end of the qualifying heats, winner of prefinal A and leading the final until mid-race, before running into a technical problem. Matteo Viganò (Birel Art/TM Racing) triumphed in the final and also achieved second place in the championship with 181 points, ahead of Hiltbrand, third with 146 points.

After a championship of continuous improvement, Joseph Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) triumphed in the OK class. The Brit started the WSK Super Master Series in 10th place and had an unfortunate withdrawal in the two stages in Lonato but in La Conca he won with full merit and temporarily took the lead. However, in the last round in Sarno, he had to deal with a fierce Kean Nakamura Berta (KR/Iame), his main challenger to the title: the Japanese driver was first at the end of the qualifying heats and also won prefinal A, but in the final Turney immediately took the lead and, despite giving way to Enzo Deligny (Parolin/ TM Racing), took the title with a second place and a total of 314 points. Nakamura Berta ended the final in fifth position and was ranked second in the championship with 271 points, while Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex) finished the race on the podium and came third in the overall rankings with 248 points.

Secondo titolo WSK consecutivo per Senna Van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing). L’olandese vince il primo round di Lonato, ma prosegue il campionato con un 11° posto nella tappa successiva sempre al South Garda Karting. Sarno diventa decisiva per il titolo e Van Walstijn inizia bene il weekend, ma nell’ultima manche di sabato si ritira per un problema tecnico. Il pilota Sodikart non si arrende alla sorte e rimonta in finale dal 12° posto al quinto: quanto basta per assicurarsi il titolo della categoria KZ2 con 210 punti. Sfortunato, invece, il suo rivale diretto, Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel Art/TM Racing), al comando al termine delle qualifying heat, vincitore della prefinale A e in testa alla finale fino a metà gara, prima di incappare in un problema tecnico. Matteo Viganò (Birel Art/TM Racing) trionfa nella finale e ottiene anche il secondo posto in campionato con 181 punti, davanti proprio a Hiltbrand, terzo con 146 punti.

Dopo un campionato in crescendo, Joseph Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex) trionfa nella classe OK. Però, nell’ultimo round di Sarno, deve fare i conti con un agguerrito Kean Nakamura Berta (KR/Iame), suo principale sfidante al titolo: il giapponese è primo al termine delle qualifying heat e vince anche la prefinale A, ma in finale Turney balza subito al comando e, cedendo comunque il passo a Enzo Deligny (Parolin/ TM Racing), conquista il titolo con un secondo posto e un totale di 314 punti. Nakamura Berta conclude la finale in quinta posizione e si classifica secondo in campionato con 271 punti, mentre Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex) chiude la gara sul podio ed è terzo in classifica generale con 248 punti.

Despite a complicated last event, Oleksandr Bondarev (LN/Vortex) deservedly won the OKJ title. The Ukrainian fought for victory in the first round in Lonato and finished fourth. He then continued the season with a second place (also in Lonato) and a victory (in La Conca). With a large advantage over his rivals, Bondarev came to Sarno as the leader and started his weekend well: second in the qualifiers and second also at the end of the qualifying heats. However, a contact at the start of the final immediately ruined his performance, although he just needed to finish the race to win the championship with 295 points. Second in the final, Kirill Dzitiev (Tony Kart/Vortex) also achieved second place in the general rankings with 250 points, while Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex) came third with 231 points. Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM Racing) won the Sarno round and finished fourth in the championship.

An excellent championship journey for Jindrich Pesl (Parolin/Iame). The Czech opened the WSK Super Master Series with a second place and achieved two victories in the final in the following races. Pesl came to Sarno with the considerable advantage of 123 points over Dries Van Langendonck (Parolin/TM Racing), second in the rankings, but wanted to finish his journey in the best possible way. Indeed, the Babyrace Driver Academy driver achieved pole position in the qualifying practice. However, he slipped back to tenth place at the end of the qualifying heats. With a remarkable comeback in the final, Pesl came second and became champion of the MINI class with 398 points. Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing) finished the final in fourth place and climbed to second place with 284 points, while Van Langendonck finished ninth and came third in the championship. The victory of the round, on the other hand, went to Dean Hoogendoorn (Alonso Kart/Iame).

Però, un contatto al via della finale rovina subito la sua prova, ma gli basta portare a termine la gara per vincere il campionato con 295 punti. The WSK Super Master Series did not just highlight the feats of the champions of the four international classes (KZ2, OK, OKJ and MINI). With the incredible number of competitions on offer, the “Master” was the stage for many emerging talents. CONTINUOUS SUCCESS La WSK Euro Series ha ottenuto grande successo fin dalla prima edizione 2010, con un calendario di cinque round e una media di 228 piloti per round. Dopo la pausa tra il 2014 e il 2018 il campionato è tornato più partecipato che mai nel 2019, crescendo costantemente negli anni successivi, nonostante la pandemia di COVID-19, andando a toccare anche risultati record in termini di presenze medie a ogni evento.

The WSK Euro Series has been very successful since the first 2010 edition, with a five-round calendar and an average of 228 drivers per round. After the 2014 to 2018 break, the championship returned more attended than ever in 2019, growing steadily over the following years, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, also reaching record results in terms of average attendance at each event.
