The engines never stop. The Champions Cup finished at the beginning of the year and WSK continued, in the “middle” months, with highly anticipated and prestigious championships such as the WSK Super Master Series and the WSK Euro Series. Now, however, the time has come for the WSK Open Cup. The summer break has allowed everyone to recharge their batteries, while we at WSK Promotion have prepared this fourth edition of the competition in detail. Since many years have already passed since the first time this is becoming a real "classic" of the international karting calendar and the trust placed in the work of the organisational machine has prompted us to reconfirm the "Cup", once again with the traditional formula of two rounds. Two prestigious tracks have been chosen as the stage: the Adria Karting Raceway provided a unique and breath taking stage in 2020 and certainly could not be left out in 2021 either, while South Garda Karting has always been the school par excellence for young talent from all over the world, as well as still being the favourite "amusement park" of several Formula 1 drivers. The WSK Open Cup therefore becomes an opportunity to get involved, to prepare for next season, to take a little revenge or, simply, to have fun. The WSK Final Cup, scheduled for the end of November, will close this year of competitions, but it is still too early to talk about the end of the season: we will experience these two events in September and October with intensity, passion and joy. Abbiamo archiviato a inizio anno la WSK Champions Cup e proseguito, nei mesi “centrali”, con campionati attesissimi e di prestigio come la WSK Super Master Series e la WSK Euro Series. Ora, però, è arrivato il tempo di vivere la WSK Open Cup. La pausa estiva ha permesso a tutti di ricaricare le batterie, mentre noi di WSK Promotion abbiamo preparato nei minimi dettagli questa quarta edizione della competizione. Già, sono passati altrettanti anni dalla prima volta di questa che sta diventando una vera e propria “classica” del calendario del karting internazionale e la fiducia riposta nel lavoro della macchina organizzativa ci ha spinto a riconfermare la “Coppa”, sempre con la tradizionale formula di due round. Due piste prestigiose sono state scelte come palcoscenico: l’Adria Karting Raceway ha offerto uno spettacolo unico e mozzafiato nel 2020 e non poteva di certo mancare anche in questo 2021, mentre il South Garda Karting è, da sempre, la scuola per eccellenza per i giovani talenti di tutto il mondo, oltre a essere ancora oggi il “luna park” preferito di diversi piloti di Formula 1. La WSK Open Cup diventa, quindi, l’occasione per mettersi in gioco, per prepararsi alla prossima stagione, per prendersi qualche piccola rivincita o, semplicemente, per divertirsi. La WSK Final Cup, in programma a fine novembre, chiuderà questa annata di competizioni, ma è ancora troppo presto per parlare della fine della stagione: viviamo con intensità, passione e allegria questi due appuntamenti di settembre e ottobre. CIK-FIA HOMOLOGATION Designed and built in 1988, in the recent past it has undergone a major restyling of both the track and the facilities and services adjacent to the track. Located in an area that can be considered the cradle of karting, it is also often a destination for F1 drivers who want to go back to kart training. Disegnato e costruito nel 1988, nel recente passato ha subito un importante restyling sia del tracciato sia delle strutture e dei servizi adiacenti il tracciato. The WSK Open Cup is relatively recent with its three years history, but it has already become a popular destination for many drivers looking for new challenges before the end of their sporting season. Among the participants, champions such as Marco Ardigò, Marijn Kremers, Jeremy Iglesias and Lorenzo Travisanutto stand out, as well as Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Riccardo Longhi and Freddie Slater. The fourth edition in this year will see, once again, two rounds for all four international classes, in the full spirit of great WSK Promotion international karting.

La WSK Open Cup è relativamente giovane con i suoi tre anni di vita, ma è già diventata una meta ambita per tanti piloti che cercano nuove sfide prima del termine della propria stagione sportiva. Tra i partecipanti spiccano campioni come Marco Ardigò, Marijn Kremers, Jeremy Iglesias e Lorenzo Travisanutto, oltre ad Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Riccardo Longhi e Freddie Slater. La quarta edizione di quest’anno proporrà, ancora una volta, due round per tutte e quattro le categorie internazionali, nel pieno spirito del grande karting internazionale firmato WSK Promotion.

Results consistency rewarded Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing), the new KZ2 champion of the WSK Euro Series. The Italian driver came second in Sarno, thanks to a seventh place in the first (and very wet) round in Lonato and a second place in the following race in Adria, but he is the favourite to win the title given the absenteeism on the track due to injury to teammate Marijn Kremers (Birel Art/TM Racing). Longhi achieved three second places in the qualifying heats and also repeated the same result in the prefinal. In the final, however, he preferred to manage the situation: a fourth place was enough to crown him as champion with a total haul of 261 points. Despite the forced stop, Kremers came second in the general rankings ahead of Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing), for an all Birel Art - TM Racing podium.

The OK class of the WSK Euro Series is a land of conquest for Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame). The British driver was unstoppable, with two victories in the first two rounds of the championship: only a mistake or an inconvenience could prevent him from winning the title. But Lindblad made no mistake in the last round in Sarno: during the weekend he watched his opponents and stayed in the top positions, then in the decisive final he made the winning move, achieving his third consecutive triumph and also first place in the overall rankings, with a record score of 381 points. Ugo Ugochukwu (KR/Iame), the closest in the championship to Lindblad, failed to achieve a miracle and, with a sixth place, finished second. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (RK/TM Racing) was unlucky and forced to retire in the final; despite everything, he came third in the rankings.

La costanza di risultati premia Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing), nuovo campione KZ2 della WSK Euro Series. Il pilota italiano si presenta a Sarno in seconda posizione, grazie a un settimo posto nel primo (e bagnatissimo) round di Lonato e a un secondo posto nella successiva gara di Adria, ma è il favorito per la conquista al titolo vista l’assenza in pista, per infortunio, del compagno di squadra Marijn Kremers (Birel Art/ TM Racing). Longhi ottiene tre secondi posti nelle manche eliminatorie e ripete lo stesso risultato anche in prefinale. In finale, invece, preferisce gestire la situazione: un quarto posto basta a incoronarlo campione con un bottino totale di 261 punti. Nonostante lo stop forzato, Kremers ottiene il secondo posto in classifica generale davanti a Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing), per un podio tutto Birel Art - TM Racing.

La classe OK della WSK Euro Series è terra di conquista di Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame). Inarrestabile il cammino del pilota britannico, con due vittorie nei primi due round di campionato: solo un errore o un inconveniente possono impedirgli di vincere il titolo. Ma Lindblad non sbaglia nulla nell’ultimo round di Sarno: nel corso del weekend resta a osservare i propri avversari e rimane nelle posizioni di vertice, poi nella decisiva finale piazza il colpo vincente, ottiene il terzo trionfo consecutivo e anche il primo posto nella classifica generale, con un punteggio record di 381 punti. Ugo Ugochukwu (KR/Iame), il più vicino in campionato a Lindblad, non riesce nel miracolo e, con un sesto posto, conclude in seconda posizione. Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (RK/TM Racing) è sfortunato e costretto al ritiro nella finale; nonostante tutto, è terzo nella classifica a punti.

The final round of the WSK Euro Series for the OKJ class was full of twists. In a title fight open to numerous contenders, Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex) stands out at the top of the final rankings. The British driver arrived in Sarno at the head of the championship but struggled to settle in front of everyone during the qualifying and the eliminatory heats. However, Keeble had an advantage due to the difficulties of his direct opponent Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex), who even started from the last row on the starting grid of the final. Keeble finished fourth, but a penalty relegated him to ninth and he beat Alex Powell (KR/Iame), first under the chequered flag by only two points: the Jamaican driver climbed from seventh to second place in the overall rankings. Slater recovered from the back and ranks 13th but was relegated to 20th place and finished third in the championship.

A win, a second place and a total of 250 points are the results that allowed Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing) to raise the WSK Euro Series 2021 trophy for the MINI class. The Spaniard was also fast in the last round in Sarno and was on the starting grid of the final in third position. Costoya immediately jumped to second place and stayed attached to leader Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/ TM Racing), without however attacking the Russian and risking ruining the result. Ivannikov won the race and climbed to second place in the championship, while Costoya celebrated winning the title. Too bad for Emanuele Olivieri: the Italian came to Sarno in first place in the championship, but an unfortunate retirement in the prefinal precluded him from disputing the title and he finished in third place.

Ricco di colpi di scena il round finale della WSK Euro Series per la classe OKJ. In una lotta al titolo aperta a più contendenti, a spiccare in cima alla classifica finale è Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex). Il pilota britannico si presenta a Sarno in testa al campionato, ma fatica a insediarsi davanti a tutti nel corso delle qualifiche e delle manche eliminatorie. Keeble è, comunque, avvantaggiato per via delle difficoltà del suo diretto avversario Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex), che parte addirittura dall’ultima fila sulla griglia di partenza della finale. Keeble termina quarto, ma una penalità lo retrocede nono e per soli due punti batte Alex Powell (KR/Iame), primo sotto la bandiera a scacchi: il pilota con licenza giamaicana sale dal settimo al secondo posto in classifica generale. Slater recupera dal fondo e si classifica 13°, ma viene retrocesso al 20° posto e finisce terzo in campionato.

Una vittoria, un secondo posto e un totale di 250 punti sono i risultati che permettono a Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing) di alzare il trofeo della WSK Euro Series 2021 per la categoria MINI. Il pilota spagnolo è veloce anche nell’ultimo round di Sarno e si presenta sulla griglia di partenza della finale in terza posizione. Costoya balza subito al secondo posto e rimane attaccato al leader Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/TM Racing), senza però attaccare il russo e rischiare di rovinare il risultato. Ivannikov vince la corsa e sale al secondo posto in campionato, mentre Costoya festeggia il titolo. Peccato per Emanuele Olivieri: l’italiano si presenta a Sarno primo in campionato, ma uno sfortunato ritiro nella prefinale gli preclude la lotta al titolo e termina in terza posizione.

Was the number of total entries on the occasion of the first round of the WSK Euro Series at South Garda Karting. Broken down as follows: 77 for MINI, 75 for OKJ, 43 for OK and 58 for KZ2. There were 27 more than in the double round held at South Garda Karting in 2020.

2022 WSK CALENDAR & REGULATIONS

2022 IS ALREADY HERE The 2021 season has not yet finished, but it is already time to think about 2022. As usual, WSK Promotion has unveiled the events that will make up next year's calendar. The scheduled events will increase to 12, all hosted by the most prestigious circuits in the international karting scene. It will begin on 23 January with the traditional opening round, the WSK Champions Cup, on the Adria circuit, to continue with the four rounds of the WSK Super Master Series and the four weekends of the WSK Euro Series. After the summer break, the WSK Open Cup on a single stage and the two WSK Final Cup races will close the season. In short, everything is ready to experience together, once again, the great emotions that this sport can give.

Non è ancora terminata la stagione 2021, ma è già tempo di pensare al 2022. WSK Promotion, come da tradizione, ha svelato gli appuntamenti che comporranno il calendario del prossimo anno. Aumentano a 12 gli eventi in programma, tutti ospitati dai più prestigiosi circuiti del panorama del karting internazionale. Si comincerà già il 23 gennaio con la tradizionale gara di apertura, la WSK Champions Cup, sul circuito di Adria, per proseguire con i quattro round della WSK Super Master Series e i quattro weekend della WSK Euro Series. Dopo la pausa estiva, la WSK Open Cup su prova unica e le due gare della WSK Final Cup chiuderanno la stagione. Insomma, è già tutto pronto per vivere insieme, di nuovo, le grandi emozioni che questo sport sa regalare.

The gasoline (KART RON102) will be given on the track with 25 lt containers by PANTA SPA in compliance with the FIA KARTING Technical Regulations (Art. 21). DIGATRON DT 15 devices are used to control that the gasoline complies with these regulations, comparing it with a sample taken from the fuel distributor (PANTA SPA). In addition, the Stewards of the meeting, after hearing the opinion of the Technical Scrutineers, are entitled to rule, at their sole discretion, that the entire contents of a vehicle’s gas tank be replaced with a mix consisting of gasoline taken from the fuel distributor above and oil, whose make and percentage shall be declared by the Entrant.

Every Driver can use from the beginning of the Qualifying Practice, Qualifying Heats, PREFINAL and FINAL: . OK, OK-Junior, KZ2 = max 10 slick or rain tyres, (5 front tyres and 5 rear tyres); . 60 MINI = max 6 slick or rain tyres, (3 front tyres and 3 rear tyres). Ogni conduttore può utilizzare, per le prove ufficiali di qualificazione, manche eliminatorie, PREFINALE e FINALE: . OK, OK-Junior, KZ2 = 10 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (5 anteriori + 5 posteriori). . 60 MINI = 6 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (3 anteriori + 3 posteriori).

GASOLINE

La benzina (KART RON102) sarà distribuita direttamente in pista dalla società PANTA SPA con fustini da 25 litri conforme al Regolamento Tecnico FIA KARTING (Art.21). La conformità della benzina è controllata con apparecchiature DIGATRON DT 15, per comparazione con campione prelevato dalla PANTA. I Commissari Sportivi, sentiti i Commissari Tecnici, hanno inoltre la facoltà di disporre, a loro discrezione, la sostituzione dell’intero contenuto del serbatoio con la miscela costituita da benzina prelevata dal distributore di cui sopra e di olio di marca e percentuale dichiarati dal concorrente.

POINT ASSIGNMENT SYSTEM

The 2021 WSK Open Cup final classification is obtained by adding up, for each Driver, all the results of the HEATS, PREFINAL and FINAL. In case of ex-aequo the highest number of best positions in the FINAL will be decisive. In case of further ex-aequo, the highest number of best positions in the PREFINAL will be decisive. In case of further ex-aequo, the highest number of best positions in the final ranking of the HEATS will be decisive.

La classifica finale della 2021 WSK Open Cup è stabilita sommando, per ciascun conduttore, tutti i risultati delle MANCHE, PREFINALE e FINALE. In caso di ex-aequo è discriminante il maggior numero di migliori piazzamenti conseguiti in FINALE. In caso di ulteriore ex-aequo è discriminante il maggior numero di migliori piazzamenti conseguiti in PREFINALE. In caso di ulteriore ex-aequo è discriminante il maggior numero di migliori piazzamenti conseguiti nella classifica finale delle MANCHE.
