We are only three months away from the end of 2022, yet the final phase of this season is ready to provide even more surprises. We have crowned a total of 11 different champions in the four international categories that will liven up the Champions Cup, the Super Master Series and the Euro Series, confirming that in the WSK Promotion-branded competitions there is a balanced and high level of competition. Additionally, the first edition of the WSK Super Cup by MINI has seen the involvement of a large and dynamic number of great drivers ready for anything to be able to raise the winner’s trophy. It is exactly with this spirit that we are ready to take to the track, in full ranks with the KZ2, OK, OKJ and the MINI categories, at the South Garda Karting for the fifth edition of the Open Cup. An event that has now become a staple in the calendar for drivers, teams and enthusiasts. It is also an opportunity for all those who have remained disappointed in terms of some of the results, to have the chance to redeem themselves on one of the most prestigious tracks in the world such as that of Lonato. Certainly it does not end here as, in November, the Finals Cup (on two rounds) will add the last two pieces to the 2022 season.

Mancano solamente tre mesi alla conclusione del 2022, ma questa fase finale di stagione è pronta a regalarci ulteriori sorprese. Abbiamo incoronato un totale di 11 campioni differenti nelle quattro categorie internazionali che animano la Champions Cup, la Super Master Series e la Euro Series, a conferma che nelle competizioni marchiate WSK Promotion vige una concorrenza equilibrata e di alto livello. Non solo, perché la novità della Super Cup by MINI ha visto coinvolti un nutrito e vivace numero di talenti, pronti a tutto pur di poter alzare il trofeo del vincitore. E proprio con questo spirito che siamo pronti a scendere in pista, a ranghi completi con la KZ2, la OK, la OKJ e la MINI, al South Garda Karting per la quinta edizione della Open Cup. Una manifestazione ormai diventata un punto fermo nell’agenda di piloti, team e appassionati. E anche un’occasione per tutti coloro che, quest’anno, sono rimasti con l’amaro in bocca in termini di risultati, per potersi riscattare, tra l’altro su una delle piste più prestigiose del mondo come quella di Lonato. E di certo non finisce qui perché, a novembre, la Final Cup (su due tappe) aggiungerà gli ultimi due pezzi al “grande puzzle del karting internazionale”, targato 2022.

This year, the WSK Open Cup is blowing out the fifth candle on its birthday cake, despite its still in the beginning phase of its inception compared to other WSK series, it has quickly become an event of great international prominence. In fact, its participants include world champions with the caliber of drivers like Marco Ardigò, Marijn Kremers, Jeremy Iglesias and Lorenzo Travisanutto, as well as Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Freddie Slater, Tuukka Taponen, Kean Nakamura-Berta and the newly crowned OKJ class world champion Enzo Tarnvanichkul. The 2022 edition returns to its origins, with a unique schedule to assign the titles to the four international categories. In short, there are all the necessary ingredients to experience a weekend in great WSK Promotion style.

La WSK Open Cup spegne quest’anno la quinta candelina sulla torta di compleanno e, nonostante la giovane età rispetto ad altre serie WSK, è diventata nel giro di poco tempo una manifestazione dal grande risalto internazionale. Infatti, tra i suoi partecipanti figurano campioni del mondo dal calibro di Marco Ardigò, Marijn Kremers, Jeremy Iglesias e Lorenzo Travisanutto, oltre ad Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Freddie Slater, Tuukka Taponen, Kean Nakamura-Berta e il neocampione del mondo della classe OKJ Enzo Tarnvanichkul. L’edizione 2022 ritorna alle origini, con in programma un appuntamento unico ad assegnare i titoli nelle quattro categorie internazionali. Insomma, ci sono tutti gli ingredienti necessari per vivere un fine settimana in grande stile WSK Promotion.

THE WINNERS OF THE

An uphill start and well-deserved conclusion with the title of champion for Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing) in the KZ2 category. In the first round in Lonato, the Italian driver sprints from the back of the pack into the first of three eliminatory heats due to the cancellation of his qualifying times. Palomba does not give up and climbs up to second place in the prefinal to then grab the victory in the finals. On the home circuit, in Sarno, the Birel Art Racing driver takes the pole position and first place in Saturday night’s standings and then races the prefinal and finals, closing in third position. Enough to win the championship with 141 points. Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame), on the other hand, triumphs in the second round and finishes second with 127 points, while the third position goes to Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM Racing) with 71 points.

Partenza in salita e meritata conclusione con il titolo di campione per Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing) nella categoria KZ2. Nel primo round di Lonato, il pilota italiano scatta dal fondo dello schieramento nella prima delle tre manche eliminatorie a causa della cancellazione dei suoi tempi in qualifica. Palomba non demorde e risale fino al secondo posto in prefinale per poi agguantare la vittoria nella finale. Sul circuito di casa, a Sarno, il portacolori di Birel Art Racing conquista la pole position e il primo posto nella classifica di sabato sera; successivamente gestisce prefinale e finale che conclude in terza posizione. Quanto basta per vincere il campionato, con 141 punti. Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame) trionfa invece nel secondo appuntamento e si classifica secondo, con 127 punti, mentre il terzo posto va nelle mani di Paavo Tonteri (CRG/TM Racing), con 71 punti.

The Japanese driver opens the Lonato weekend, the first round of the championship, with the seventh best time in qualifying, and then progressively improves to victory in the prefinal. Nakamura-Berta repeats his performance in the final as well, dominating the race from the start to the checkered flag. In Sarno, second and last leg, the KR Motorsport leader avoids any kind of mistakes in the qualifying heats and then proceeds to the prefinals B. His performance in the finals is more conservative, with a fourth place that crowns him as new champion of the series with 146 points. Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM Racing) beats Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/Vortex) in the decisive race in Sarno and takes second place in the championship with 133 points, while the Finnish closes third with 80 points.

Nakamura-Berta si ripete anche in finale, dominando la gara dalla partenza fino alla bandiera a scacchi. A Sarno, seconda e ultima tappa, l’alfiere di KR Motorsport evita ogni tipo di sbavatura nelle qualifying heat e procede successivamente con la prefinale B. Più conservativa la sua performance in finale, con un quarto posto che lo incorona nuovo campione della serie con 146 punti. Enzo Deligny (Parolin/TM Racing) batte Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/Vortex) nella decisiva gara di Sarno e ottiene il secondo posto in campionato con 133 punti, mentre il finlandese conclude terzo con un bottino di 80 punti.

Constant presence at the top of the standings for Jan Przyrowski (Tony Kart/Vortex) in the OKJ. The Polish driver does not go beyond the 19th position in the time trials of the first round in Lonato. However, during the qualifying heats he achieves three victories and climbs the rankings by as many as 16 positions. On Sunday, Przyrowski dominates prefinal A and also takes the victory in the final. High-level performance also in the second round in Sarno, where the Tony Kart Racing Team driver gets an encore in prefinal B and finishes second in the final. A result that allows him to become champion with 178 points in the safe. Maciej Gladysz (LN/Vortex) wins the Sarno final and closes second with 116 points, while Kirill Kutskov (Birel Art/TM Racing) hits the third position in the standings with 66 points.

The battle for the MINI title is fierce, with Iacopo Martinese (Parolin/Iame) designated as the new champion. The Italian driver becomes the protagonist in the first Lonato leg with a series of excellent results in the qualifying heats - a victory, three further podium finishes and a fastest lap time - and finishes fourth in prefinal A. Yet, it is in the final on Sunday that he goes wild with a 6 position comeback, which allows him to grab the lowest step of the podium. In the decisive test in Sarno, the BabyRace Driver Academy racer is the author of four victories in the five eliminatory heats, which are added to the triumph in prefinal A. With impeccable race management, Martinese wins the race and first place in the championship with 144 points. Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing) finishes the Sarno weekend in second position and is second in the overall standings with 113 points. Despite his victory in Lonato, Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/TM Racing) ends up third, with 110 points.

L’italiano si rende protagonista nella prima tappa di Lonato con una serie di ottimi risultati nelle qualifying heat - una vittoria, tre ulteriori piazzamenti sul podio e un giro veloce - e conclude quarto nella prefinale A, ma è nella finale di domenica pomeriggio che si scatena con una rimonta di 6 posizioni che gli permettono di agguantare il gradino più basso del podio. Nella decisiva prova di Sarno, il portacolori di Babyrace Driver Academy è autore di quattro vittorie nelle cinque manche eliminatorie che si sommano al trionfo nella prefinale A. Con una gestione impeccabile di gara, Martinese si aggiudica il successo e il primo posto in campionato, con 144 punti. Christian Costoya (Parolin/ TM Racing) conclude in seconda posizione il weekend di Sarno e risulta secondo anche in classifica generale, con 113 punti. The drivers of the WSK Euro Series have been able, once again, to thrill the enthusiasts and provide exciting contests in the 2022 edition of the championship, in the prestigious “gym” of South Garda Karting and in the stunning natural setting of the Naples International Circuit.

Ancora una volta, i piloti della WSK Euro Series hanno saputo emozionare gli appassionati e regalare sfide avvincenti nell’edizione 2022 del campionato, nella prestigiosa “palestra” del South Garda Karting e nella splendida cornice naturale del Circuito Internazionale Napoli.

After the triumph in the second round in Sarno and the achievement of the WSK Euro Series champion title attained at the end of July, Iacopo Martinese (Parolin/Iame) continues his season with the victory of the first edition of the WSK Super Cup by MINI, which took place at the beginning of September at the International Circuit La Conca in Muro Leccese. The Italian driver starts the weekend with a slightly complicated qualifying time, concluded with the 18th best time, to then become the star of the qualifying heats with three victories, a second place and the three fastest laps. Having climbed to second place in the intermediate standings, Martinese dominates prefinal B –complete with a best lap time to complete his great performance – and earns the pole position at the finals. The BabyRace Driver Academy standard-bearer is unreachable in the last race of the weekend, as he crosses the finish line with a gap of 6 seconds ahead of his rival drivers. It is therefore Martinese who puts the first signature in the Hall of Fame of the event.

Dopo il trionfo nel secondo round di Sarno e la conquista del titolo di campione della WSK Euro Series ottenuto a fine luglio, Iacopo Martinese (Parolin/Iame) prosegue la propria stagione con la vittoria nella prima edizione della WSK Super Cup by MINI andata in scena a inizio settembre all’International Circuit La Conca di Muro Leccese. Il pilota italiano inizia il weekend con una qualifica leggermente complicata, chiusa con il 18° tempo, ma successivamente diventa il mattatore delle qualifying heat con tre vittorie, un secondo posto e tre giri veloci. Salito secondo nella classifica intermedia, Martinese domina la prefinale B - con tanto di best lap a incorniciare la sua prestazione - e guadagna la prima casella di partenza della finale. Il portacolori di Babyrace Driver Academy è irraggiungibile anche nell’ultima corsa del fine settimana: infatti transita sul traguardo con circa 6 secondi di vantaggio sui diretti inseguitori. È dunque Martinese a mettere la prima firma nella Hall of Fame della manifestazione.

The place of honor is the exclusive right of Dean Hoogendoorn (Alonso Kart/Iame). The Dutch driver is the fastest in Group 1 of the time trials with a time of 58.515 seconds which earns him the third position in the combined standings. In the elimination heats, Hoogendoorn proceeds with a series of outstanding results – two wins, a second place, a third one and two fastest laps – and is fourth in the intermediate standings. After finishing second in the prefinal B, the standard-bearer of Alonso Kart by Kidix perfectly handles the start from the outer line and manages to defend his second position very well all the way to the checkered flag.

La piazza d’onore è ad appannaggio di Dean Hoogendoorn (Alonso Kart/Iame). Il pilota dei Paesi Bassi è il più veloce nel gruppo 1 delle prove cronometrate con un tempo di 58.515 secondi che gli vale il terzo posto nella classifica combinata. Nelle manche eliminatorie, Hoogendoorn procede con una serie di risultati di rilievo - due vittorie, un secondo posto, un terzo e due giri veloci - ed è quarto nella classifica intermedia. Dopo il secondo posto nella prefinale B, l’alfiere di Alonso Kart by Kidix gestisce perfettamente la partenza dalla linea esterna e difende egregiamente la propria seconda posizione fino alla bandiera a scacchi.

2022 WSK SUPER CLASS BY MINI REPORT & THE FASTEST

Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing) gets the bronze medal. The Spaniard engages in a great duel in the qualifying heats (Group 3) with Ludovico Busso (DR/TM Racing), taking the pole position right in front of Costoya who sees his result transformed into a fourth place in the combined standings. Costoya does not give up and records three wins and two fastest laps in the qualifying heats, but is forced into a DNF due to an accident. In prefinal B, the Parolin Motorsport’s driver finishes fourth and obtains the fifth slot in the final starting grid. After a difficult start to the race, the champion of the WSK Champions Cup finds himself competing for the second position, however he finishes third.

Augustus Toniolo (KR/Iame) opens his weekend with a 27th place in qualifying, but the Brazilian driver goes wild during the qualifying heats and achieves a victory, two second positions, a third one and one fastest lap. In total, Toniolo climbs up the standings by well 24 positions and gains the third position, thus confirming his speed with a fourth place in prefinal A. Having started third in the final, the Team Driver Racing Kart protégé manages to maintain his position until halfway through the race and then finishes fourth under the checkered flag.

Filippo Sala (KR/Iame) is immediately among the drivers in better shape for the weekend, with the fastest lap in Group 2 of qualifying and the relative second place in the combined standings. However, it is during the qualifying heats that the Italian driver performs even better, with four wins in the four heats on Friday, while on Saturday’s fifth heat he is second (with the fastest lap in his pocket). Unfortunately, a technical problem in prefinal A forces Sala to a DNF and he completes the final finishing in fifth position.

Augustus Toniolo (KR/Iame) apre il suo weekend con un 27° posto in qualifica, ma il pilota brasiliano si scatena nel corso delle qualifying heat e colleziona una vittoria, due secondi posti, un terzo e un giro veloce. In totale, Toniolo risale la classifica di ben 24 posizioni e guadagna la terza posizione, confermando la propria velocità con un quarto posto nella prefinale A. Scattato terzo in finale, il protetto di Team Driver Racing Kart mantiene la propria posizione fino a metà gara, per poi concludere quarto sotto la bandiera a scacchi.

Filippo Sala (KR/Iame) è subito tra i piloti più in forma del weekend con il giro più veloce nel gruppo 2 delle qualifiche e il relativo secondo posto nella classifica combinata. Ma è nel corso delle qualifying heat che emerge ancor più il pilota italiano, con quattro vittorie nelle quattro batterie di venerdì, mentre nella quinta manche di sabato è secondo (ma con il giro veloce in tasca). Purtroppo, un problema tecnico nella prefinale A costringe al ritiro Sala che porta al termine la finale in quinta posizione.

South Garda Karting has been active since back in 1988 and is considered the “Temple of Speed” for international karting and is the favorite destination of F1 drivers who want to return to kart training. In 2015, the facilities and services adjacent to the track have been modernized, and the track was extended to its current length of 1,200 meters. This year, the track has hosted the WSK Champions Cup, the first two round of the WSK Super Master Series and one of the two rounds of the WSK Euro Series.

Attivo fin dal lontano 1988, il South Garda Karting è considerato il “Tempio della Velocità” del karting internazionale ed è la meta preferita dei piloti di F1 che vogliono tornare ad allenarsi in kart. Nel 2015, le strutture e i servizi adiacenti alla pista sono stati rimodernati e il tracciato è stato allungato agli attuali 1.200 metri. Every Driver can use from the beginning of the Qualifying Practice, Qualifying Heats, PREFINAL and FINAL:

. OK, OK-Junior, KZ2

max 10 slick or rain tyres, (5 front tyres and 5 rear tyres);

It is mandatory to use 4 new tyres in the Qualifying Practice and at least 2 new tyres (1 front + 1 rear) for the FINAL.

. 60 MINI

max 8 slick or rain tyres, (4 front tyres and 34 rear tyres).

It is mandatory to use 4 new tyres in the Qualifying Practice.

GASOLINE

The gasoline (KART RON102) will be given on the track with 25 lt containers by PANTA SPA in compliance with the FIA KARTING Technical Regulations (Art. 21). DIGATRON DT 15 devices are used to control that the gasoline complies with these regulations, comparing it with a sample taken from the fuel distributor (PANTA SPA). In addition, the Stewards of the meeting, after hearing the opinion of the Technical Scrutineers, are entitled to rule, at their sole discretion, that the entire contents of a vehicle’s gas tank be replaced with a mix consisting of gasoline taken from the fuel distributor above and oil, whose make and percentage shall be declared by the Entrant.

La benzina (KART RON102) sarà distribuita direttamente in pista dalla società PANTA SPA con fustini da 25 litri conforme al Regolamento Tecnico FIA KARTING (Art.21). La conformità della benzina è controllata con apparecchiature DIGATRON DT 15, per comparazione con campione prelevato dalla PANTA.

I Commissari Sportivi, sentiti i Commissari Tecnici, hanno inoltre la facoltà di disporre, a loro discrezione, la sostituzione dell’intero contenuto del serbatoio con la miscela costituita da benzina prelevata dal distributore di cui sopra e di olio di marca e percentuale dichiarati dal concorrente.

Ogni conduttore può utilizzare, per le prove ufficiali di qualificazione, manche eliminatorie, PREFINALE e FINALE: . OK, OK-Junior, KZ2

10 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (5 anteriori + 5 posteriori).

Sarà obbligatorio utilizzare 4 pneumatici nuovi nelle prove ufficiali di qualificazione e almeno 2 pneumatici nuovi (1 anteriore + 1 posteriore) per la FINALE.

8 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (4 anteriori + 4 posteriori).

FINAL PHASE

The starting grid of the FINAL is defined by the arrival classification of the PREFINAL. Drivers who did not take the start of PREFINAL or were excluded from it will occupy the last positions on the grid of the FINAL.
