So this WSK karting season has also come to its end. 2021 was a year of "recovery", after having experienced together a difficult 2020 full of obstacles, linked to the health emergency caused by COVID-19. It has been a year that until now has allowed us to create four different series (Champions Cup, Super Master Series, Euro Series and Open Cup), divided over 10 race weekends, with over 7,000 kilometres covered by a real army of drivers who reached a record 343 effective participants in the first round of the Super Master Series in Adria. These are figures that confirm that we are on the right way, with our operating machine always ready to improve and make the events more attractive from year to year, and that are already ready to be updated thanks to the upcoming Final Cup. In fact, after being forced, in spite of ourselves, to cancel the 2020 edition for health safety reasons, one of the events that is most dear to us is back: not only because, as usual, it puts the word "end" to the rich tradition of time spent on the track, but also because this year it is ready to blow out ten candles on its birthday cake. This series has seen the presence of many champions who have then established themselves at the top of motorsport, and also this year, it is beyond doubt, we will have the pleasure of hosting the talent of the future. Let's get ready to live an intense weekend full of emotions, before finishing the season and, after a well-deserved regenerative break, return to racing in 2022. E anche questa stagione di karting, marchiata WSK, è arrivata alla sua conclusione. Il 2021 è stato un anno “di rilancio”, dopo aver vissuto insieme un 2020 difficile e ricco di ostacoli, legati all’emergenza sanitaria causata dal COVID-19. È stato un anno che fino a ora ci ha permesso di realizzare quattro serie differenti (Champions Cup, Super Master Series, Euro Series e Open Cup), suddivise su 10 weekend di gara, con oltre 7.000 chilometri macinati da un vero e proprio esercito di piloti che ha fatto segnare un record di 343 partecipanti effettivi al primo round della Super Master Series di Adria. Numeri che ci confermano di essere sulla strada giusta, con la nostra macchina operativa sempre pronta a migliorare e a rendere più accattivante la proposta di anno in anno, e che sono già pronti per essere aggiornati grazie all’imminente Final Cup. Infatti, dopo essere stati costretti, nostro malgrado, ad annullare l’edizione 2020 per ragioni di sicurezza sanitaria, torna una delle manifestazioni che più ci stanno a cuore: non solo perché, come da tradizione, mette la parola “fine” alla ricca annata trascorsa in pista, ma anche perché quest’anno è pronta a spegnere ben dieci candeline sulla propria torta di compleanno. Da questa serie sono passati tanti campioni che si sono poi affermati ai vertici del motorsport, e anche quest'anno, è fuori di dubbio, avremo il piacere di ospitare dei talenti del futuro. Prepariamoci a vivere un weekend intenso e denso di emozioni, prima di archiviare la stagione e, dopo una meritata pausa rigenerativa, ritornare a correre nel 2022.

WSK FINAL CUP - HALL OF FAME With the 2021 edition, the WSK Final Cup celebrated ten years of activity and did so by resuming what was left pending last year, unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cup has now become a great end-of-year classic, to close a long and exciting racing season of great international karting. Names like Marco Ardigò, Bas Lammers, Nicklas Nielsen and Lorenzo Travisanutto have left their mark on the Hall of Fame: who will be next?

FOCUS 2011 WSK FINAL CUP

THE INAUGURAL EDITION OF THE FINAL CUP It seems only yesterday that the Final Cup was established, a new WSK Promotion event inserted as the grand finale of the 2011 season (just as its name evokes). The destination chosen on that occasion was the brand new Abruzzo International Circuit in Ortona, located in central Italy and a few kilometres from the Adriatic Sea. In short, a first-rate location for the 180 drivers who came to take part in the competition, divided into the four classes of that time (60 Mini, KF3, KF2 and KZ2). Here are some of today’s leading Motorsport figures, who will compete in the first edition of the WSK Final Cup.

Sembra solo ieri quando venne istituita la Final Cup, un nuovo evento marchiato WSK Promotion e inserito come gran finale della stagione 2011 (proprio come evoca il suo nome). La destinazione scelta in quell’occasione è il nuovissimo Circuito Internazionale d’Abruzzo a Ortona, situato nel centro Italia e a pochi chilometri dal Mar Adriatico. Insomma, una location di prim’ordine per i 180 piloti accorsi per la competizione, divisi nelle quattro classi di allora (60 Mini, KF3, KF2 e KZ2). Ecco alcuni dei protagonisti della prima edizione, oggi affermati professionisti nel Motorsport.

Really excited the 60 Mini’s final, with a foursome fighting for the victory. Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart/Parilla) beat Berkay Besler (Top Kart/LKE), second, Marcus Dionisios (Top Kart/LKE), third, and Billy Monger (Birel/LKE), fourth.

The battle for victory was also intense in KF3, with Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart/ Vortex) first ahead of Charles Leclerc (Intrepid/TM Racing), Kirill Karpov (Tony Kart/BMB), George Russell (Intrepid/TM Racing) and Matthew Graham (Zanardi/Parilla), all within almost half a second of each other.

Davvero emozionante la finale della 60 Mini, con una lotta a quattro per la vittoria. Lorenzo Travisanutto (Tony Kart/Parilla) batte Berkay Besler (Top Kart/ LKE), secondo, Marcus Dionisios (Top Kart/LKE), terzo, e Billy Monger (Birel/LKE), quarto.

Anche nella KF3 la battaglia per la vittoria è intensa, con Nicklas Nielsen (Tony Kart/Vortex) primo davanti a Charles Leclerc (Intrepid/TM Racing), Kirill Karpov (Tony Kart/BMB), George Russell (Intrepid/TM Racing) e Matthew Graham (Zanardi/Parilla), tutti racchiusi in quasi mezzo secondo.

A great duel in KF2, with the victory of the Norwegian Dennis Olsen (Energy/TM Racing), in front of the Romanian rival Tomi Vlad Dragan (Lenzo/LKE), second. The Russian Egor Orudzhev (Tony Kart/Vortex) earns the lowest step of the podium.

The category of shifter karts sees Bas Lammers (Intrepid / TM Racing) take the lead at the start and, after the first half of the final "in control", shoves off and wins. Roberto Toninelli (Lenzo / TM Racing) is second, while Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart / Vortex) is third.

Gran duello nella KF2, con la vittoria del norvegese Dennis Olsen (Energy/TM Racing), davanti al rivale rumeno Tomi Vlad Dragan (Lenzo/LKE), secondo. Il russo Egor Orudzhev (Tony Kart/Vortex) guadagna il gradino più basso del podio.

La categoria dei kart a marce vede Bas Lammers (Intrepid/TM Racing) balzare in testa alla partenza e, dopo la prima metà della finale “in controllo”, prende il largo e vince. Roberto Toninelli (Lenzo/TM Racing) è secondo, mentre Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/ Vortex) è terzo.

Not even bad luck in the first round curbed the ambitions of Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing) to win the title. The Italian driver was looking for redemption in Adria and was immediately among the fastest at the weekend with a third place in the qualifiers and a second place at the end of the qualifying heat. On Sunday morning, Palomba authoritatively won the prefinal and, as a result, was also at the first box on the starting grid of the final. At the start, Palomba dashed away perfectly and stayed firmly in the lead for the whole race, up to the chequered flag. Senna van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing) and Stan Pex (KR/Iame), the first two classified in the Lonato final, were absent in Adria which allowed Palomba to become the KZ2 champion. Despite coming second, Jeremy Iglesias (CRG/TM Racing) achieved third place in the championship: in fact, with his third place, Adrien Renaudin (Sodikart/TM Racing) came second in the overall rankings. Nemmeno la sfortuna del primo round frena le ambizioni di vittoria del titolo di Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing). Il pilota italiano cerca il riscatto ad Adria ed è subito tra i più veloci del weekend con un terzo posto nelle qualifiche e un secondo posto al termine delle qualifying heat. Domenica mattina, Palomba vince con autorità la prefinale e, di conseguenza, ottiene anche la prima casella sulla griglia di partenza della finale. Al via, Palomba scatta perfettamente e mantiene saldamente il comando per tutta la gara, fino alla bandiera a scacchi. Senna van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing) e Stan Pex (KR/Iame), i primi due classificati della finale di Lonato, sono assenti ad Adria e questo permette a Palomba di laurearsi campione KZ2. The challenge for the WSK Open Cup title in the OK class ended with the triumph of Tuukka Taponen (Tony Kart/ Vortex). After his third position in the first round of Lonato, the Finnish driver was also competitive in Adria: classified fourth in the qualifiers, three times on the podium during the qualifying heats and second in prefinal B. With the retirement in the prefinal of Joseph Turney (Tony Kart/ Vortex) due to an engine problem, the battle comes down to Taponen and Arvid Lindblad (KR/Iame). After the suspension of the race for an incident, at the restart Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (RK/TM Racing) flew to victory and Cristian Bertuca (Birel Art/TM Racing) was behind him in second position, while Taponen and Lindblad battled it out until the last lap: the Briton, in an attempt to overtake him, ended up in the lead and the Finn finished third, a result that crowned him as the champion. Dopo la sospensione della gara per un incidente, alla ripartenza Tymoteusz Kucharczyk (RK/TM Racing) vola verso la vittoria e Cristian Bertuca (Birel Art/TM Racing) lo insegue in seconda posizione, mentre Taponen e Lindblad battagliano fino all’ultimo giro: il britannico, nel tentativo di superarlo, finisce in testacoda e il finlandese conclude terzo, un risultato che lo incorona campione.

[ Tony Kart | Vortex ] James Egozi (Tony Kart/Vortex) made no mistakes in the last round of the WSK Open Cup. The American driver, already winner of the first round in Lonato, came to Adria as one of the favourites and, on Sunday morning, won the B prefinal and started from pole position in the final, but the Tony Kart Racing Team standard bearer preferred not to take any risks and finished wisely in second position: just enough to secure the OKJ class title. Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex) dominated the weekend (pole position, five wins in the qualifying heats and first in the prefinal) and won the final, but in the championship he finished in third position because he paid for his failure to enter the final in round 1. Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM Racing) is third, while Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex), fourth, is second in the overall rankings. Non sbaglia nulla James Egozi (Tony Kart/Vortex) nell’ultimo round della WSK Open Cup. Il pilota statunitense, già vincitore della prima tappa di Lonato, si presenta ad Adria come uno dei favoriti e, domenica mattina, vince la prefinale B e scatta dalla pole position in finale, ma l’alfiere di Tony Kart Racing Team preferisce non rischiare e conclude sapientemente in seconda posizione: quanto basta per assicurarsi il titolo della classe OKJ. Freddie Slater (Kosmic/Vortex) è il dominatore del weekend (pole position, cinque vittorie nelle qualifying heat e primo in prefinale) e vince la finale, ma in campionato conclude in terza posizione perché paga il mancato accesso alla finale nel round 1. Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM Racing) è terzo, mentre Harley Keeble (Tony Kart/Vortex), quarto, è secondo posto in classifica generale.

Despite the absence of success in the final in the two championship rounds, Niklas Schaufler (EKS/TM Racing) won the WSK Open Cup gold medal with the 2021 title in the MINI class. The Austrian driver started the weekend uphill, exactly from 32nd place in the qualifiers, but with excellent performances in the qualifying heats (including a victory, a third place and a fast lap) he climbed the general rankings up to ninth position. After a fourth place in the A prefinal, Schaufler was an important protagonist in the final because, four laps from the end, he reached second position and finished not far from the winner David Cosma Cristofor (KR/ Iame), exactly at +0.453. Jindrich Pesl (Parolin/Iame), also reached the podium in Lonato together with Schaufler, who came third and finished second in the championship, while Cosma Cristofor, with this first success in the WSK Promotion series, climbed to third position in the points rankings. Nonostante l’assenza di successi in finale nei due appuntamenti di campionato, Niklas Schaufler (EKS/TM Racing) firma l’albo d’oro della WSK Open Cup con il titolo 2021 della classe MINI. Il pilota austriaco inizia il weekend in salita, esattamente dal 32° posto delle qualifiche, ma con ottime prestazioni nelle qualifying heat (tra cui una vittoria, un terzo posto e un giro veloce) risale la classifica generale fino alla nona posizione. Dopo un quarto posto nella prefinale A, Schaufler è grande protagonista nella finale perché, a quattro giri dal termine, si porta in seconda posizione e termina poco distante dal vincitore David Cosma Cristofor (KR/Iame), esattamente a +0.453. Jindrich Pesl (Parolin/Iame), anche lui presente sul podio di Lonato insieme a Schaufler, è terzo e conclude in campionato al secondo posto, mentre Cosma Cristofor, con questo primo successo nelle serie WSK Promotion, sale in terza posizione nella classifica a punti.

2022 WSK CALENDAR

ALL THE EVENTS OF 2022 The 2021 season ended with the WSK Final Cup, but WSK Promotion has already presented all the events that will make up the 2022 calendar to the public. The challenges will not be lacking and, indeed, will increase: in all there will be 12 events scheduled for next season, all on prestigious and internationally recognised circuits. Adria will open the challenge with the WSK Champions Cup on 23 January and, a week later, with the first stage of the WSK Super Master Series. The futuristic Adria Karting Raceway will also host the WSK Euro Series in July and the WSK Open Cup in October. Lonato is included as the second round of the "Master" on 13 February and will be the opening stage of the "Euro" the following weekend, as well as the closing of the WSK Final Cup. La Conca is confirmed as Round 3 of the WSK Super Master Series and the Euro Series, while Sarno will be the grand finale of both series and the first of the two races in the Final Cup. In short, everything is ready for a 2022 in the name of great karting.

La stagione 2021 si conclude con la WSK Final Cup, ma WSK Promotion ha già presentato al pubblico tutti gli appuntamenti che comporranno il calendario del 2022. Le sfide non mancano e, anzi, aumentano: in tutto saranno 12 gli eventi in programma per la prossima stagione, tutti su circuiti prestigiosi e riconosciuti a livello internazionale. Adria aprirà la sfida con la WSK Champions Cup il 23 gennaio e, 7 giorni dopo, con la prima tappa della WSK Super Master Series. L’avveniristico Adria Karting Raceway ospiterà poi anche la WSK Euro Series a luglio e la WSK Open Cup a ottobre. Lonato è inserita come secondo round della “Master” il 13 febbraio e sarà la tappa d’apertura della “Euro” il weekend successivo, oltre che la chiusura della WSK Final Cup. La Conca è confermata come round 3 della WSK Super Master Series e della Euro Series, mentre Sarno sarà il gran finale di entrambe le serie e la prima delle due gare della Final Cup. Insomma, tutto è pronto per un 2022 all’insegna del grande karting.

WSK DRIVERS AT THE ACI SPORT FEDERAL SUPERCOURSE The ACI Sport Federal School organised the XVIII Federal Supercorso – Speed Sector at the Piero Taruffi Racetrack in Vallelunga, on 6, 7, 8 and 9 November. Like every year, six drivers selected by ACI Sport and the Ferrari Driver Academy from the karting scene took part, all of which grew up in the WSK championships. Starting with Andrea Kimi Antonelli, winner of the Champions Cup (60 Mini) in 2016, the Super Master Series, the Euro Series, the Open Cup and the Final Cup (OKJ) in 2019. A great rival on the track this year of the Italian, the Brazilian Rafael Camara, won the Champions Cup and the Super Master Series in the OK class in 2021. Also present was the Finnish driver Tuukka Taponen, recently winner of the WSK Open Cup again in the OK class, as well as the other Italian Brando Badoer, who has achieved several podiums and pole positions during his career. Together with them were also Eliseo Donno and Valerio Rinicella, both Italian and debuting in various WSK events. In the four days of the course, the six young people alternated moments behind the "academic" desks and sessions on the track, at the wheel of the Renault Clio protagonist of the Clio Cup Europe and, above all, of the Tatuus F.4 T-014, the official single-seater of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth organised by WSK Promotion, which over the years has become a fundamental transition from karting to track motoring.

La Scuola Federale ACI Sport ha organizzato il XVIII Supercorso Federale – Settore Velocità all'Autodromo Piero Taruffi di Vallelunga, nelle date del 6, 7, 8 e 9 novembre scorsi. Come ogni anno vi hanno preso parte sei piloti selezionati da ACI Sport e Ferrari Driver Academy dal panorama kartistico, tutti cresciuti nei campionati targati WSK. Every Driver can use from the beginning of the Qualifying Practice, Qualifying Heats, PREFINAL and FINAL: . OK, OK-Junior, KZ2 = max 10 slick or rain tyres, (5 front tyres and 5 rear tyres); . 60 MINI = max 6 slick or rain tyres, (3 front tyres and 3 rear tyres). It is mandatory to use new tyres in the Qualifying Practice. Ogni conduttore può utilizzare, per le prove ufficiali di qualificazione, manche eliminatorie, PREFINALE e FINALE: . OK, OK-Junior, KZ2 = 10 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (5 anteriori + 5 posteriori). . 60 MINI = 6 pneumatici “slick” o “rain” (3 anteriori + 3 posteriori). Sarà obbligatorio utilizzare pneumatici nuovi nelle prove ufficiali di qualificazione.

GASOLINE

The gasoline (KART RON102) will be given on the track with 25 lt containers by PANTA SPA in compliance with the FIA KARTING Technical Regulations (Art. 21). DIGATRON DT 15 devices are used to control that the gasoline complies with these regulations, comparing it with a sample taken from the fuel distributor (PANTA SPA). In addition, the Stewards of the meeting, after hearing the opinion of the Technical Scrutineers, are entitled to rule, at their sole discretion, that the entire contents of a vehicle’s gas tank be replaced with a mix consisting of gasoline taken from the fuel distributor above and oil, whose make and percentage shall be declared by the Entrant. La benzina (KART RON102) sarà distribuita direttamente in pista dalla società PANTA SPA con fustini da 25 litri conforme al Regolamento Tecnico FIA KARTING (Art.21). La conformità della benzina è controllata con apparecchiature DIGATRON DT 15, per comparazione con campione prelevato dalla PANTA. I Commissari Sportivi, sentiti i Commissari Tecnici, hanno inoltre la facoltà di disporre, a loro discrezione, la sostituzione dell’intero contenuto del serbatoio con la miscela costituita da benzina prelevata dal distributore di cui sopra e di olio di marca e percentuale dichiarati dal concorrente.
