On 23 January we celebrated the first four champions of 2022, the winners of the WSK Champions Cup at South Garda Karting. Now, after almost 300 days, the time has come to bring down the curtain on this year of great karting, on the very same track, on the occasion of the second and decisive round of the WSK Final Cup. Just a week ago, all four classes (KZ2, OK, OKJ and MINI) kept us on our toes with four fiery finals at the International Circuit Napoli in Sarno, site of the first round which attracted around 200 participants from all over the world. The game, however, is far from over because we are on the eve of a racing weekend that will be able to confirm or overturn what we saw on the track just 7 days ago. In short, once again we will be immersed in a whirlwind of emotions, a bit like what has happened during all of this 2022. And on the horizon we already see a really promising 2023, with a calendar consisting of 14 events for a total of 6 championships. And not only that, because there are many innovations in the programme such as the introduction of two new classes, such as the OK-N and the OKJ-N, to further increase the opportunities to access the WSK world and allow many young talents to show off on a stage of absolute prestige. In short, we can’t wait to kick off the new year, but let’s dose the accelerator... And let’s enjoy the show of the Final Cup, where anything can still happen, to the fullest!

Lo scorso 23 gennaio abbiamo celebrato i primi quattro campioni del 2022, i vincitori della WSK Champions Cup al South Garda Karting. Ora, dopo quasi 300 giorni, è arrivato il momento di far scendere il sipario su questa annata di grande karting, proprio sulla stessa pista, in occasione del secondo e decisivo round della WSK Final Cup. Solo una settimana fa, tutte e quattro le categorie (KZ2, OK, OKJ e MINI) ci hanno tenuto sulle spine con quattro finali infuocate al Circuito Internazionale Napoli di Sarno, sede del primo round che ha richiamato a sé circa 200 partecipanti da tutto il mondo. I giochi, però, sono tutt’altro che chiusi perché siamo alla vigilia di un weekend di gare che potrà confermare o ribaltare quanto visto in pista neanche 7 giorni fa. Insomma, ancora una volta saremo immersi in un turbine di emozioni, un po’ come accaduto in tutto questo 2022. E all’orizzonte vediamo già un 2023 davvero promettente, con un calendario composto da 14 appuntamenti per un totale di 6 campionati. E non solo, perché tante sono le novità in programma come l’introduzione di due nuove categorie, quali l’OK-N e l’OKJ-N, per accrescere ancora di più le opportunità di accesso al mondo WSK e permettere a tantissimi giovani talenti di mettersi in mostra su un palcoscenico di assoluto prestigio. Non vediamo l’ora di dare il via al nuovo anno, ma dosiamo l’acceleratore… E godiamoci al meglio lo spettacolo della Final Cup, dove tutto può ancora succedere!

Senna Van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing) made his mark on the KZ2 final. The Dutch driver was a candidate for victory as of Friday, together with his teammate Emilien Denner (Sodikart/TM Racing): in fact, the two achieved a double in the Qualifying practice. However, Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/ TM Racing) was able to reach second place in the intermediate rankings on Saturday evening to put a spoke in the wheel in the three qualifying heats. The two Sodikart drivers responded to the Italian in the prefinal, with Denner first and Van Walstijn second just ahead of Palomba. However, the twists and turns arrived in the final: Van Walstijn took the lead after a few laps, with Noah Milell (Tony Kart/Vortex) in the role of first pursuer, while Denner was forced to withdraw. Van Walstijn kept Milell at bay throughout the race and beat him to the chequered flag. Egor Nosov (IPK/TM Racing) took advantage of the battles of the first laps to hoist himself into third place and thus obtain a place on the podium. Palomba instead came fourth. 120

Il pilota olandese si candida alla vittoria fin dalla giornata di venerdì, assieme al compagno di squadra Emilien Denner (Sodikart/TM Racing): infatti, i due siglano una doppietta nelle prove cronometrate. Tuttavia, a mettere loro i bastoni tra le ruote nelle tre manche di qualificazione c’è Giuseppe Palomba (Birel Art/TM Racing), in grado di posizionarsi secondo nella classifica intermedia al sabato sera. I due piloti Sodikart rispondono per le rime all’italiano in prefinale, con Denner primo e Van Walstijn secondo proprio davanti a Palomba. Ma i colpi di scena arrivano nella finale: Van Walstijn passa al comando dopo pochi giri, con Noah Milell (Tony Kart/Vortex) nel ruolo di primo inseguitore, mentre Denner è costretto al ritiro. Van Walstijn tiene a bada Milell durante tutta la corsa e lo precede sotto la bandiera a scacchi. Egor Nosov (IPK/TM Racing) approfitta delle battaglie dei primi giri per issarsi terzo e ottenere così un posto sul podio. Palomba si classifica invece quarto. KZ2 - RANKING P.

Yuanpu Cui (KR/Iame) didn’t miss the chance to win the final of the OK class. The Chinese driver amazed everyone in Friday’s Qualifying practice with a solid pole position, obtained on a track made treacherous by the rain. After the qualifying heats, the expert Joseph Turney (Tony Kart/ Vortex) emerged in the intermediate classification, confirming his leadership even after the victory in prefinal A. In the final, Turney led the group, followed by Cui (started from fifth place) and Alex Powell (KR/Iame). It was these three who were competing to win throughout the race, until Cui reached first place and gained precious metres on the two rivals. The ending was daring: Cui won ahead of Turney, but the latter was penalized for an incorrectly positioned front fairing, while Powell withdrew following a contact. Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM Racing) and Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart/Vortex) were promoted to second and third place respectively.

Yuanpu Cui (KR/Iame) non si lascia scappare l’occasione di vincere la finale della classe OK. Il pilota cinese stupisce tutti nelle qualifiche di venerdì con una solida pole position, ottenuta su una pista resa insidiosa dalla pioggia. Dopo le qualifying heat emerge nella classifica intermedia l’esperto Joseph Turney (Tony Kart/Vortex), che conferma la propria leadership anche dopo la vittoria nella prefinale A. In finale, Turney fa da battistrada al gruppo, seguito da Cui (scattato dalla quinta posizione) e da Alex Powell (KR/Iame). Sono proprio questi tre a giocarsi la vittoria per tutta la gara, fino a quando Cui conquista la prima posizione e prende metri preziosi sui due rivali. Il finale è rocambolesco: Cui vince davanti a Turney, ma quest’ultimo viene penalizzato per la carenatura anteriore in posizione non corretta, mentre Powell si ritira a seguito di un contatto. Anatoly Khavalkin (Parolin/TM Racing) e Jimmy Helias (Tony Kart/ Vortex) sono promossi rispettivamente secondo e terzo. OK - RANKING P.

Il pilota italiano è tra i principali protagonisti del weekend già a partire dalle qualifiche con una ottima seconda posizione, dietro al poleman Andy Consani (Parolin/TM Racing). Tuttavia, la classifica intermedia dopo le qualifying heat e le prefinali cambia drasticamente: Consani retrocede a causa di un ritiro nelle manche, mentre Zac Drummond (Parolin/ TM Racing) balza in testa davanti a Olivieri e a Miguel Costa (KR/Iame), momentaneo leader al termine della giornata di sabato. La finale è un affare a tre tra Drummond, Aleksandar Bogunovic (KR/Iame) e Olivieri: l’italiano studia i propri avversari nelle prime fasi della gara, poi, al settimo giro, decide di passare in testa. Il pilota di IPK Official Racing Team firma una solida vittoria con oltre un secondo di vantaggio su Drummond, secondo, e Bogunovic, terzo.

Proof of maturity for Emanuele Olivieri (IPK/TM Racing) in the OKJ class. The Italian driver was among the main protagonists of the weekend already starting from the Qualifying practice with an excellent second position, behind poleman Andy Consani (Parolin/TM Racing). However, the intermediate rankings after the qualifying heats and the prefinals changed drastically: Consani was relegated due to a withdrawal in the heats, while Zac Drummond (Parolin/TM Racing) leapt into the lead ahead of Olivieri and Miguel Costa (KR/ Iame), temporary leader at the end of the day on Saturday. The final was a three-way affair between Drummond, Aleksandar Bogunovic (KR/Iame) and Olivieri: the Italian studied his opponents in the early stages of the race, then, on lap seven, decided to take the lead. The IPK Official Racing Team driver achieved a solid victory with more than a second ahead of Drummond, who came second, and Bogunovic, who came third. 327

The weather complicated the work of the mechanics and drivers, able to manage even the most critical conditions.

First ever success in MINI for Gianmatteo Rousseau (Alonso Kart/Iame) in a WSK Promotion final. The driver from Panama was the fastest in group 3 in the Qualifying practice, but in the combined rankings he is third behind Iskender Zulfikari (Parolin/Iame) and Filippo Sala (KR/Iame). Zulfikari and Sala were the main protagonists of Saturday’s qualifying heats, but with the last heats on Sunday morning and the two prefinals the rankings changed: Sala achieved pole position for the final, flanked in the front row by Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/TM Racing). Followed in the places immediately after by Zulfikari, William Calleja (Parolin/TM Racing) and Rousseau. The decisive race of the weekend saw a heated five-man battle between Zulfikari (who jumped to the lead at the start), Sala, Ivannikov, Calleja and Rousseau. On the last lap, Rousseau took advantage of the tussle for the top positions, passed his rivals and flew straight to victory. Ivannikov came second, while Sala got the better of Zulfikari and reached the lowest step of the podium. 512

Proprio Zulfikari e Sala sono i principali protagonisti delle qualifying heat di sabato, ma con le ultime manche di domenica mattina e le due prefinali cambia la graduatoria: Sala ottiene la pole position per la finale, affiancato in prima fila da Vladimir Ivannikov (EKS/TM Racing). Seguono nelle posizioni immediatamente successive Zulfikari, William Calleja (Parolin/TM Racing) e Rousseau. La gara decisiva del weekend vede un’accesa battaglia a cinque tra Zulfikari (balzato al comando al via), Sala, Ivannikov, Calleja e Rousseau. All’ultimo giro, Rousseau approfitta della bagarre per le prime posizioni, infila i propri rivali e vola dritto verso la vittoria. OK-N AND OKJ-N: TWO For over 15 years, WSK Promotion has been constantly working with the aim of allowing all young drivers to get involved in the most important international events. For the 2023 season there will certainly be news in this respect: in fact, the traditional MINI, OKJ, OK and KZ2 will be accompanied by the new single-speed OK-N and OKJ-N classes, introduced by FIA Karting as an access step and immediately before the OK and OKJ world.

Going into detail, the OK-N engine has about 35 horsepower and is a simplified version of the OK, without the exhaust valve and limited to 15,000 rpm (compared to 16,000 rpm for the OK). With these characteristics, the intent is to ensure maximum reliability and contain costs, without negatively affecting performance at the same time.

NEW CLASSES FOR 2023 The OK-N and OKJ-N are confirmed in seven WSKbranded events: all four rounds of the Super Master Series (Lonato, Franciacorta, Sarno and Castelletto di Branduzzo) and the two races that make up the Euro Series (Franciacorta and Sarno), in addition to the second and last stage of the Final in Lonato.
