Following the double-header of the Champions Cup and the first round of the Super Master Series, South Garda Karting is the star of this weekend once more, playing host to the second round of the “Master”. The start of the season was exciting and surprising, as demonstrated by the 7 different drivers who took turns to climb to the top of the podium in the finals of the four classes (KZ2, OK, OKJ and MINI) during the first two rounds of the season. It’s no coincidence, because our staff have been working behind the scenes for over 15 years now to allow everyone to compete at the same level, building a sporting context capable of rewarding the best performers on the global karting scene. The Lonato circuit is a true university of the sport, attended by those who wish to get involved and compete on one of the most famous racing circuits in the world, on which many stars of the sport were born and raised and on which Formula 1 drivers are often only too happy to train. However, the subsequent rounds of the WSK Super Master Series are no less important, because South Garda Karting will pass the baton, in order, to the International Circuit La Conca and the International Circuit Napoli, two “asphalt strips” that are also steeped in fame, charm and history. L’inizio della stagione è stato emozionante e sorprendente, come dimostrano i 7 diversi piloti che si sono alternati sul gradino più alto del podio nelle finali delle quattro categorie (KZ2, OK, OKJ e MINI), nei primi due appuntamenti dell’anno. Non è un caso, perché il nostro staff, da oltre 15 anni a questa parte, lavora dietro le quinte per permettere a tutti di competere allo stesso livello, costruendo un contesto sportivo capace di premiare i migliori interpreti del panorama karting globale. Il circuito di Lonato è una vera e propria università di questo sport, utile per chi vuole mettersi in gioco e confrontarsi su uno dei campi gara più noti al mondo, dove sono nati e cresciuti parecchi campioni di questo sport e dove spesso anche i piloti di Formula 1 tornano volentieri per allenarsi. Non saranno da meno, però, le tappe successive della WSK Super Master Series, perché il South Garda Karting cederà il testimone, in sequenza, all’International Circuit La Conca e all’International Circuit Napoli, altre due “strisce d’asfalto” ricche di blasone, fascino e di storia. Dopo il titolo della WSK Champions Cup ottenuto la settimana precedente, Senna Van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing) si ripete di nuovo a Lonato. Il pilota olandese firma il miglior tempo nelle qualifiche, ma perde la leadership della classifica generale al termine delle qualifying heat a vantaggio di David Trefilov (Maranello/TM Racing). Van Walstijn non molla la presa e, dalla seconda posizione sulla griglia di partenza della finale, scatta perfettamente. Indisturbato, il portacolori di Sodikart vola dritto in solitaria verso la vittoria della gara. Trefilov, invece, è meno reattivo dalla pole position: il tedesco retrocede fino alla quarta posizione dopo tre giri, ma ritorna secondo a seguito del ritiro di Tom Leuillet (Birel Art/TM Racing). Però, al giro 19, Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel Art/TM Racing) sorprende Trefilov e lo sorpassa: lo spagnolo conclude secondo, mentre il tedesco si classifica terzo. KZ2 - RANKING

After the WSK Champions Cup title won the previous week, Senna Van Walstijn (Sodikart/TM Racing) did it again in Lonato. The Dutch driver set the fastest time in qualifying but lost the leadership in the overall standings at the end of the qualifying heats to David Trefilov (Maranello/TM Racing). Van Walstijn kept going and managed a perfect start from second place on the starting grid. Undisturbed, Sodikart’s standard bearer flew all the way to the finish line to win the race. Trefilov, on the other hand, was less reactive from pole position: the German dropped to fourth after three laps but climbed back to second following the retirement of Tom Leuillet (Birel Art/TM Racing). However, on lap 19, Pedro Hiltbrand (Birel Art/TM Racing) surprised Trefilov and overtook him: the Spaniard finished second, while the German came in third.

Alla prima uscita stagionale con i colori del Tony Kart Racing Team, Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/ Vortex) conquista una solida vittoria a Lonato. Già a partire dalle qualifiche, l’italiano occupa la Top 10 della classifica, per poi firmare due vittorie, un secondo posto e un giro veloce nel corso delle qualifying heat. Dopo un altro trionfo nella prefinale A, Coluccio non commette errori allo spegnimento dei semafori e rimane saldo al comando. Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex), all’esordio nella categoria, non molla la presa e marca stretto Coluccio, ma non riesce a colmare il divario che lo separa dal leader della gara. Coluccio passa trionfante sotto la bandiera a scacchi con 0.817 di vantaggio su Slater, secondo. Con una rimonta di 6 posizioni rispetto al via, Gustaw Wisniewski (Exprit/TM Racing) termina la finale in terza posizione.

OK - RANKING

On his first outing of the season driving for the Tony Kart Racing Team, Luigi Coluccio (Tony Kart/ Vortex) posted a solid win in Lonato. In qualifying, the Italian already managed to get into the Top 10 in the standings, before sealing two wins, a second place and a fastest lap during the qualifying heats. After another triumph in prefinal A, Coluccio had a faultless start when the lights went out and remained firmly in the lead. On his debut in the class, Freddie Slater (LN/Vortex) never gave up the chase and stayed close to Coluccio but failed to bridge the gap that separated him from the race leader. Coluccio triumphantly took the chequered flag 0.817 seconds ahead of Slater in the runner-up place. Climbing 6 places from his position on the starting grid, Gustaw Wisniewski (Exprit/TM Racing) finished the final in third.

Il vincitore del primo round della categoria OKJ si decide negli ultimi metri (e anche oltre) della finale, dopo un weekend ricco di sorprese. Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex), già il più veloce alla WSK Champions Cup, firma il miglior tempo nelle qualifiche, ma al termine delle qualifying heat è René Lammers (Parolin/TM Racing) a imporsi in prima posizione nella classifica con tre vittorie, due secondi posti e un giro veloce. Consolidando la pole position con una vittoria nella prefinale A, Lammers guida la finale fin dalla partenza, ma Oleksandr Bondarev (LN/Vortex) lo tallona per tutta la gara. All’ultima curva dell’ultimo giro, però, Bondarev attacca Lammers, lo sorpassa e lo precede sul traguardo, ma una penalità di 5 secondi per il musetto anteriore in posizione non corretta retrocede l’ucraino al quarto posto. La vittoria va nelle mani di Lammers, mentre Matveev e Kirill Kutskov (Birel Art/TM Racing) chiudono rispettivamente al secondo e al terzo posto.

OKJ - RANKING

The winner of the first round in the OKJ class emerged over the last yards (and beyond) of the final, after a weekend full of surprises. Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex), who was already the quickest in the WSK Champions Cup, set the fastest time in qualifying, but at the end of the heats it was René Lammers (Parolin/TM Racing) who managed to place himself first in the standings thanks to three wins, two second places and a fastest lap. Consolidating his pole position with a win in prefinal A, Lammers lead the final from the start, but Oleksandr Bondarev (LN/Vortex) tracked him throughout the race. However, on the last corner of the last lap, Bondarev attacked Lammers, overtook him and crossed the finish line in first, only for a 5-second penalty for an incorrectly positioned front fairing to relegate the Ukrainian to fourth place. Victory went to Lammers, while Matveev and Kirill Kutskov (Birel Art/TM Racing) finished in second and third place respectively. 312

Ancora una volta, la categoria MINI regala un finale combattuto a Lonato. Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing), neo vincitore della WSK Champions Cup, apre le danze in qualifica con il miglior tempo, ma Jindrich Pesl (Parolin/Iame) si porta prontamente al comando della graduatoria generale con tre vittorie nelle cinque qualifying heat. Il pilota Babyrace Driver Academy vince anche in prefinale e, dalla pole position, ha come unico obiettivo la vittoria. Infatti, al via della finale Pesl mantiene salda la testa della corsa, seguito da Costoya, Dries Van Langendonck (Parolin/TM Racing) e Filippo Sala (KR/Iame). Al giro 8, Costoya prende il comando, ma alla tornata successiva è Van Langendonck a balzare davanti. Il portacolori di Parolin Motorsport non molla più la propria posizione e vince la finale, con Pesl che termina secondo seguito da Costoya, in terza posizione. MINI - RANKING

Once again, the MINI class provided a hard-fought finish in Lonato. Christian Costoya (Parolin/TM Racing), the recent winner of the WSK Champions Cup, began proceedings in qualifying by posting the fastest time, but Jindrich Pesl (Parolin/Iame) quickly took the lead in the overall standings thanks to three wins in the five qualifying heats. The Babyrace Driver Academy driver also won the prefinal and, in pole position, his only goal was to win. Indeed, at the start of the final, Pesl kept the lead firmly in his grip, followed by Costoya, Dries Van Langendonck (Parolin/TM Racing) and Filippo Sala (KR/Iame). Costoya took the lead on lap 8, but on the next lap Van Langendonck managed to leap ahead. The Parolin Motorsport standard bearer maintained his position and went on to win the final, with Pesl finishing second followed by Costoya in third.

THE GREAT “WORLD” OF THE MINI CLASS

The MINI class is the first step for every small, yet great talent and is the ideal place to enter the world of international karting competitions. Over ten years ago, WSK Promotion was a pioneer in offering a firstrate stage to young drivers in this class, stimulating the continuous development of the participants and, consequently, the prestige of the class itself. Drivers came from the four corners of the earth, a total of 58 nations from all five continents (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania) to compete in the WSK series. After Italy, the countries with the highest number of standard bearers over the years have been Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain and Russia. However, there has also been room for drivers from countries that are less known for the sport such as Andorra, Jamaica, Montenegro and Sri Lanka. Since 2018, there have always been more than 30 nationalities represented out on the track over the course of a season, with the peak coming in 2019 and 2021. Not surprisingly, just last year, a total of 144 drivers took part in the championship: quite a record, despite the restrictions on sporting events and international travel due to the coronavirus pandemic.

La categoria MINI è il primo passo per ogni piccolo, ma grande, talento utile a entrare nelle competizioni del karting internazionale. WSK Promotion, oltre dieci anni fa, è stata pioniera nell’offrire un palcoscenico di primo livello ai giovani attori di questa classe, stimolando la costante crescita dei partecipanti e, di conseguenza, il prestigio della categoria stessa. Dai quattro angoli della Terra, da tutti e cinque i continenti (Africa, Americhe, Asia, Europa e Oceania), sono arrivati piloti pronti a darsi battaglia nelle serie WSK, per un totale di 58 nazioni rappresentate. Dopo l’Italia, i Paesi con il maggior numero di portacolori nel corso degli anni sono stati la Polonia, la Repubblica Ceca, la Russia, la Spagna e la Russia, ma spazio anche per piccole realtà come l’Andorra, la Giamaica, il Montenegro e lo Sri Lanka. Dal 2018, le nazionalità rappresentate in pista nell’arco di una stagione superano sempre quota 30, con il picco raggiunto nel 2019 e nel 2021. Non a caso, proprio lo scorso anno, un totale di ben 144 piloti ha animato il campionato: un vero e proprio record, nonostante le restrizioni agli eventi sportivi e ai viaggi internazionali per la pandemia di coronavirus.
