With one more event to be held for the completion of the WSK Super Master Series, we are already ready to start with the 2021 opening race of the WSK Euro Series. Two of the “principal” and international championships, one closely linked to the other, both of which will be hosted in Lonato, one of the best-known circuits in the karting scene. If the WSK Super Master Series has been active for over ten years, the WSK Euro Series is also a source of pride for WSK Promotion because, over the years, it has launched numerous drivers towards the great Formula 1 scene. From Max Verstappen to Lando Norris, half of the starting grid for the 2021 World Championship season is composed of young talents who have developed in this series and on the tracks that have animated the calendars. The last two editions, 2019 and 2020, have seen many battles and a lot of excitement. Hoping it will be the same again in 2021, this season will certainly launch many other new champions. Because this is fertile land for development, improving and, why not, even making mistakes. However, the most important thing is to fully experience the passion for this sport. And we are more than excited to be the promoters of this movement. Con ancora un appuntamento da disputare per il completamento della WSK Super Master Series, siamo già pronti a partire anche con la gara d’apertura 2021 della WSK Euro Series. Due campionati “centrali” e di livello internazionale, l’uno strettamente legato all’altro, che verranno entrambi ospitati a Lonato, uno dei circuiti più noti del panorama karting. Se la WSK Super Master Series è attiva da oltre dieci anni, anche la WSK Euro Series è un motivo di vanto per WSK Promotion perché, nel corso degli anni, ha lanciato diversi piloti verso il grande palcoscenico della Formula 1. Da Max Verstappen a Lando Norris, metà dello schieramento di partenza della stagione 2021 del Mondiale è composta da giovani talenti cresciuti in questa serie e sulle piste che ne hanno animato i calendari. Le ultime due edizioni, quelle 2019 e 2020, hanno regalato molte battaglie e tante emozioni. Sperando possa essere altrettanto anche nel 2021, questa stagione di certo lancerà tanti altri nuovi campioni. Perché questa è terra fertile per crescere, migliorarsi e, perché no, anche sbagliare. Ma la cosa più importante è vivere a pieno la passione per questo sport. E noi siamo più che entusiasti di essere i promotori di questo movimento.

EVENT RECORD of the last WSK event that took place at Adria Karting Raceway.

Since the year it was founded (2014), Adria Karting Raceway established itself as one of the most avantgarde karting circuits. The highlight is a lighting system that allows events to take place at night.

Designed and built in 1988, in the recent past it has undergone an important restyling of the track, facilities and services adjacent to the track. Located in an area that can be considered the cradle of karting, it is also often a destination for F1 drivers who want to go back to training in karts.

Dall’anno della sua fondazione (2014), l’Adria Karting Raceway si è imposto come uno dei kartodromi più all’avanguardia. Fiore all’occhiello, un impianto di illuminazione che consente di disputare eventi in notturna.

Disegnato e costruito nel 1988, nel recente passato ha subito un importante restyling sia del tracciato sia delle strutture e dei servizi adiacenti la pista. Situato in quell’area che può essere considerata la culla del karting, è spesso meta anche di piloti di F1 che vogliono tornare ad allenarsi in kart.

The look (but not the essence) has radically changed at the International Circuit Napoli, considered the temple of world karting speed. A longer main straight alongside the paddock, a new mixed central section with a total length of 1,600 metres: this is what the drivers of the WSK Super Master Series were able to test, the first championship to be held at the Italian circuit at the end of the modernisation works, on the occasion of the third round of the 2021 season. A new challenge for every driver, previously accustomed to a different driving style, which made the weekend by WSK for the inauguration of this “enticing” layout.

Cambia radicalmente forma (ma non la propria essenza) il Circuito Internazionale Napoli, considerato il tempio della velocità del karting mondiale. Un rettilineo principale più lungo e spostato a fianco del paddock, un nuovo tratto misto centrale per una lunghezza complessiva di 1.600 metri: è questo quanto hanno potuto saggiare i piloti della WSK Super Master Series, il primo campionato a visitare l’impianto italiano al termine dei lavori di ammodernamento, in occasione del terzo appuntamento della stagione 2021. Una nuova sfida per ogni pilota, prima abituati a uno stile di guida differente, che ha reso “piccante” il fine settimana by WSK di inaugurazione di questo layout.

The WSK Euro Series is a flagship of WSK Promotion, always able to attract a large number of entrants over the past two years. Three events took place in 2020, two of which on the same weekend at South Garda Karting due to the COVID-19 health emergency, ensuring great entertainment and very heated battles on the track between various protagonists. Starting with Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing), who did well to win in the first round of Sarno, managing his tyres and always among the best, winner of the KZ2 class reserved for shifter karts. Or Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/Iame), on the podium of every event in the OK class and with a second WSK Euro Series title in his showcase after the one achieved in OKJ in 2019. Space also for Alfio Spina (Tony Kart/Vortex) in OKJ (with two wins and a second place) and for René Lammers (Parolin/Iame) in the MINI (with a decisive win on the last lap in the third round), two young hopefuls who dream of Formula 1. A goal already achieved by some of the former WSK Euro Series winners such as Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.

La WSK Euro Series è un fiore all’occhiello di WSK Promotion, capace di attrarre sempre un grande numero di iscritti nel corso di questi ultimi due anni. Nel 2020 si sono svolti tre appuntamenti, di cui due nello stesso weekend al South Garda Karting a causa dell’emergenza sanitaria COVID-19, assicurando tanto spettacolo e battaglie in pista molto accese fra vari protagonisti. A cominciare da Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art/TM Racing), bravo a vincere nel primo round di Sarno gestendo le gomme e sempre tra i migliori, vincitore della classe KZ2 riservata ai kart a marce. Oppure Andrea Kimi Antonelli (KR/Iame), sul podio di ogni evento della classe OK e con un secondo titolo WSK Euro Series in bacheca dopo quello ottenuto in OKJ nel 2019. Spazio anche per Alfio Spina (Tony Kart/Vortex) nella OKJ (con due vittorie e un secondo posto) e per René Lammers (Parolin/Iame) nella MINI (con un decisivo trionfo all’ultimo giro nel terzo round), due giovani di belle speranze che sognano la Formula 1. Un traguardo già raggiunto da alcuni ex vincitori della WSK Euro Series come, ad esempio, Max Verstappen e Lando Norris.

THE EURO SERIES MEDALS The WSK Euro Series is once again a staple of WSK Promotion, starting from the 2019 competitive season, after the four editions that have already taken place between 2010 and 2013. The 2019 and 2020 championships awarded 8 titles for a total of 24 medals (also counting the second and third places in the general classification) which were awarded to chassis, engines and teams, as well as, obviously, to the drivers. In terms of chassis manufacturers, this particular ranking is led by KR with three titles, three second places and two thirds, followed by Tony Kart and Parolin with two wins, with the difference that the first holds two silvers and two bronzes and the second one less silver in his showcase. Birel Art also achieved a victory, while FA Kart came close to success with a 2nd place. Below, the complete WSK Euro Series medal table divided by chassis, engines and teams. As in the Olympic Games, the number of victories determines the ranking order; then, going down, the second places and, lastly, the third ones.

La WSK Euro Series è tornata a essere un punto fermo di WSK Promotion a partire dalla stagione agonistica 2019, dopo le quattro edizioni che avevano già avuto luogo tra il 2010 e il 2013. I campionati 2019 e 2020 hanno assegnato 8 titoli per un totale di 24 medaglie (se contiamo anche i secondi e i terzi posti in classifica generale) che sono state assegnate a telai, motori e team, oltre che - ovviamente - ai piloti. Sul fronte dei costruttori di telai, a guidare questa particolare classifica è KR con tre titoli, tre secondi posti e due terzi, seguita da Tony Kart e da Parolin con due vittorie, con la differenza che la prima detiene due argenti e due bronzi e la seconda un argento in meno in bacheca. THE BEST OF THE EURO SERIES Three exciting events marked last year’s WSK Euro Series. Starting from Sarno and ending with the double event in Lonato, there was certainly no lack of battles on the track that livened up the race weekends. Here is the best of what we saw in 2020.

EURO SERIES: THE TALENT Half of the starting grid of the 2021 Formula 1 season was composed of drivers who developed in the WSK Euro Series: a school that this year promotes Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher, the last two arrivals in a pool of talent who have already had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills.

Metà dello schieramento di partenza della stagione 2021 di Formula 1 è composto da piloti cresciuti nella WSK Euro Series: una scuola che promuove quest’anno Nikita Mazepin e Mick Schumacher, gli ultimi due arrivati di uno schieramento di talenti che ha già avuto modo di dimostrare le proprie capacità.

Three titles in four years: this is the overall booty brought home by Max Verstappen, winner for two consecutive seasons (from 2010 to 2011) in the KF3 class and then also in the KZ1 class (2013) in shifter karts. Proving to be a versatile driver and one of the most successful in the WSK Euro Series, the starting point that allowed him to reach Formula 1 in 2015. For six years, the Dutchman has been the top Red Bull driver and he graduated first as the youngest ever to win a World Cup race (at 18 years, 7 months and 15 days) and, subsequently, in 2019 and 2020, he achieved 3rd place in the overall rankings.

The French driver made his debut in the WSK Euro Series in 2010, achieving a 14th place in KF3, and improved significantly in 2011 with a 2nd place in the same class, finishing behind the champion Max Verstappen in the overall rankings. Ocon debuted in Formula 1 in 2016, at the Belgian Grand Prix with Manor, and became the youngest Frenchman to participate in a World Championship race (at 19 years and 345 days). He then raced for two seasons with Force India/Racing Point. From 2020 he joined Renault, with the team changing its name to Alpine for the 2021 season.

Behind his compatriot Ocon, in the final classification of the WSK Euro Series 2010 (KF3 class) we find Pierre Gasly: in fact, the Frenchman finished in 15th place in what was his last year in karts before moving on to single-seaters. Gasly has made his way into the minor formulas and was called by Toro Rosso for the last rounds of Formula 1 in 2017 and then confirmed for the 2018 season. In 2019 he was promoted to Red Bull, later returning to Toro Rosso and achieving his first victory at the Gran Premio d’Italia (Italian Grand Prix) 2020 with the new AlphaTauri.

A start one step at a time for Charles Leclerc in the WSK Euro Series: in 2010 he came 27th in the KF3 class, improving a bit in 2011 with a 23rd place. After two years of studying the situation, the driver from Monaco dominated and won the KF2 title, 134 points ahead of the runner-up; the driver from Monaco then moved on to KZ1 and came 12th in the championship. After a few seasons in the minor formulas and several successes, Leclerc arrived in Formula 1 in 2018 as a junior of Ferrari and standard bearer of Sauber and, the following year, he became an official of the Maranello team with which he won twice, on two difficult tracks like Spa-Francorchamps and Monza.

Dietro al connazionale Ocon, nella classifica finale della WSK Euro Series 2010 (categoria KF3) troviamo Pierre Gasly: il francese chiude, infatti, al 15° posto in quello che è il suo ultimo anno nei kart prima di passare alle monoposto. Gasly si fa strada nelle formule minori e viene chiamato da Toro Rosso per gli ultimi appuntamenti della Formula 1 del 2017 e poi confermato per il 2018. Nel 2019 arriva la promozione in Red Bull, ritorna successivamente in Toro Rosso e agguanta la prima vittoria al Gran Premio d’Italia 2020 con la nuova AlphaTauri.

Un inizio a piccoli passi per Charles Leclerc nella WSK Euro Series: nel 2010 è 27° nella classe KF3, migliorando un po’ nel 2011 con un 23° posto. Dopo due anni di studio, il monegasco domina e conquista il titolo della KF2, con 134 punti di vantaggio sul secondo classificato; il monegasco passa poi in KZ1 e coglie il 12° posto finale in campionato. Dopo alcune stagioni nelle formule minori e diversi successi, Leclerc approda in Formula 1 nel 2018 come junior della Ferrari e portacolori della Sauber e, l’anno successivo, diventa ufficiale della Scuderia di Maranello con cui realizza due vittorie, su due piste difficili come SpaFrancorchamps e Monza.

ANTONIO GIOVINAZZI

A different path than his colleagues for Antonio Giovinazzi in the WSK Euro Series. The Italian driver began in 2010 with a study phase in the KF2 class, where he finished the season in 27th place, to improve significantly in 2011 with a 6th place. In 2012, Giovinazzi disputed his third championship and finished 12th (again in KF2), then moved on to the minor formulas, and a few years later he became the third Ferrari driver. In 2017, the opportunity came to debut in Formula 1 with Sauber for two races. He then held the role of test driver and Alfa Romeo promoted him to official driver in 2019.

George Russell achieved a 7th place in KF3 at the end of the first year of the WSK Euro Series 2011, continuing to achieve good performances in subsequent years (4th in 2012, 5th in 2013). His development path continued with four years in the minor formulas that allowed him to join the Mercedes Junior Team in 2017. The British driver arrived in Formula 1 with Williams in 2019 and was also confirmed by the team in 2020. On the occasion of the Sakhir Grand Prix, Russell raced with Mercedes: 2nd place in the qualifiers, several laps in the lead and first points in the World Championship, although victory escaped him due to some bad luck.

Un percorso differente rispetto ai propri colleghi per Antonio Giovinazzi nella WSK Euro Series. Il pilota italiano comincia nel 2010 con una fase di studio nella classe KF2, dove conclude al termine della stagione al 27° posto, per migliorarsi nettamente nel 2011 con un 6° posto. Nel 2012, Giovinazzi disputa il suo terzo campionato e finisce 12° (sempre in KF2), poi passa alle formule minori e diventa qualche anno dopo il terzo pilota della Ferrari. Nel 2017 arriva l’occasione di debuttare in Formula 1 con Sauber per due gare, svolge successivamente il ruolo di test driver e Alfa Romeo lo promuove a pilota ufficiale nel 2019.

È un 7° posto in KF3 che George Russell ottiene al termine del primo anno della WSK Euro Series 2011, continuando a ottenere buone performance nei successivi anni (4° nel 2012, 5° nel 2013). Il suo percorso formativo prosegue con quattro anni nelle formule minori che gli permettono di entrare a far parte del Mercedes Junior Team, nel 2017. Il pilota britannico entra in Formula 1 con la Williams nel 2019 e viene confermato dal team anche nel 2020. In occasione del Gran Premio di Sakhir, Russell corre con Mercedes: 2° posto in qualifica, diversi giri in testa e primi punti nel Mondiale, sebbene gli sfugga la vittoria per alcune sfortune.

LANDO NORRIS

Consistent performances for Lance Stroll in the WSK Euro Series: he debuted in 2011 with a 9th place in the KF3 class, then in 2012 with a 12th place (always in KF3) and 2013 with a 13th place (in KF). The Canadian driver won several important titles in the single-seater training series and made his debut in 2018 with Williams; in that year he achieved a place on the podium in the Azerbaijani Grand Prix and was reconfirmed by the British team for 2018. From the following year he moved to Racing Point, with which he achieved a pole position and two podiums in the 2020 season. For 2021, Stroll is one of Aston Martin’s two official drivers.

Only one appearance for Lando Norris in the WSK Euro Series… but what a performance! The British driver made his debut in the 2013 edition of the WSK Euro Series, the last one before the championship break, and won the KFJ title. He began to make his way into the preparatory single-seater classes and was noticed by McLaren, which included him in their “McLaren Young Driver” programme. With the English team, Norris made his Formula 1 debut in 2019 and achieved his first podium place in 2020. Norris is an official McLaren driver in 2021 as well.

Prestazioni costanti per Lance Stroll nella WSK Euro Series: il debutto è nel 2011 con un 9° posto nella classe KF3, poi seguono il 2012 con un 12° posto (sempre in KF3) e il 2013 con un 13° (in KF). Il pilota canadese conquista diversi importanti titoli nelle serie addestrative in monoposto e debutta nel 2018 con la Williams; in quell’anno ottiene un podio nel Gran Premio d’Azerbaigian e viene riconfermato dal team britannico per il 2018. Nikita Mazepin raced the first year of the WSK Euro Series in 2012: achieving 22nd place in the KF3 class. In 2013, the Russian driver joined Mick Schumacher as a teammate and the two finished 18th and 19th respectively in the overall KFJ rankings, in the last year of the series before the stoppage. Both decide to take a jump in quality in the minor formulas in 2015, where they often met on the track. The Haas team then chose Mazepin and Schumacher as official drivers for the 2021 Formula 1 season.

Una sola apparizione per Lando Norris nella WSK Euro Series... E che prestazione! Il pilota britannico debutta nell’edizione 2013 della WSK Euro Series, l’ultima prima del periodo di stop del campionato, e ottiene il titolo KFJ. Il pilota britannico inizia a farsi strada nelle categorie delle monoposto propedeutiche e viene notato dalla McLaren, che lo inserisce nel proprio programma “McLaren Young Driver”. Proprio con il team inglese, Norris debutta in Formula 1 nel 2019 e agguanta il primo podio nel 2020. Anche nel 2021, Norris è pilota ufficiale di McLaren.

Nikita Mazepin affronta il primo anno di WSK Euro Series nel 2012: 22° posto nella classe KF3. Nel 2013, al pilota russo si unisce Mick Schumacher come compagno di squadra e i due arrivano rispettivamente 18° e 19° in classifica generale della KFJ, nell’ultimo anno della serie prima dell’interruzione. Entrambi decidono di affrontare il salto di qualità nelle formule minori nel 2015, dove s’incrociano spesso in pista. Il team Haas sceglie quindi Mazepin e Schumacher come piloti ufficiali per la stagione 2021 di Formula 1.
